Why the Oscars were historically great this year: - The Parasite winning Best Picture was one of the most shocking win in awards history. Along with claiming numerous major awards. - Ford V Ferrari wasn't snubbed, it was one of my favorites and it had a fundamental sound design and winning Film Editing was actually also unexpected. Totally deserved it. - Joaquin Phoenix's long overdue Oscar win has ended being the first leading actor to win in a comic book movie, altogether with Hildur's score as a definitive chilling masterpiece ever put to film. - Almost every film nominated as Best Picture won something. - Elton John back in the spotlight winning an Oscar for Original Song in Rocketman. - Brad Pitt and Laura Dern winning their first Oscar for the acting category. - In my personal perspective, no one was robbed from the wins.

@Diego Pisfil Personally I would prefer Pitt, but Pesci is fking great and people talk a lot about him. Pacino's good too. The production design of Irishman is arguably better than Once upon a time in hollywood (idk anything about hollywood tho), but after hearing that the house in parasite was built from scratch, and is designed very thoughtfully and intelligent, I'm just further amazed by this film. Visual effects was also good in irishman, the deaging is great. But I strongly disagree in cinematography. I really like Deakin's cinematography in 1917. In the end I think I need to rewatch the irishman cuz last time i watch it, it isn't really in the best quality

It's the first foreign language film to win Best Picture in the entire 91-year history of the Oscars. It's a very clear difference compared to "first Asian film to grab Best Picture" even if the latter is technically correct. :) Also, I have no idea why you're specifically congratulating the team's translator, Sharon Choi, instead of the crew that worked with Director Bong on the movie. Yes, she's a great translator and has received a lot of online praise translating the team's words (mainly seen in tweets), but I'd expect screenwriter Han Jin-won and producer Kwak Shin-ae to be mentioned first alongside Director Bong. It's fine to fanboy/girl over Sharon, but I think it's a bit disrespectful to the people who actually worked on the movie.

Winning Screenplay was definitely it’s first major hurdle...and despite losing Editing, I figured that it could still pull it off since most Best Picture winners haven’t taken Editing as of yet. There was just a moment before Bong won Director where I said “Maybe it can happen...” and then when it did, it felt like the most satisfying upset ever for someone who was beyond deserving. Mendes did accomplish something with 1917 but I still think Bong’s wading through sudden tonal shifts and pacing (with the editing, which deserved to win despite the fact I greatly enjoyed FORD V. FERRARI) was a more impressive feat. That led to Best Picture, an award I had faith it would win and an award that I could not be more thrilled about. History has been made and it felt like a privilege to witness this movie win its awards. The Oscars aren’t everything, but it’s moments like these when I hope they can at least manage a movie to get seen more. I am sure it wont become a blockbuster in the US but I do hope more people will set aside their subtitle bias to see it. I’ve been following the Oscars since 1998 when I was 10 years old...no film has ever driven me to such a passionate state as this one. Now, I sit here commuting to work on the train from Brooklyn to Manhattan feeling so much joy...and to think I’m going to work!!

Once i heard Bong Joon Ho for Best Director, i was so shocked but at the same time happy for being the most unexpected win, because Sam Mendes was like the most obvious choice and for every win he had at other awards ceremonies. From the first announced nomination that included Parasite, when I heard the audience's massive applause and response to hearing that one word, I turned to my friends and said, "Parasite is going to wipe up tonight. Just listen to the love for that film!" And sure enough, the movie steamrolled through the major awards (and destroyed some of my own predictions!!). Great movie, history-making awards night for it, but I feel badly for Mendes not winning Director. OK, enough said about that. I felt that Hildur gave the sweetest and most heartfelt acceptance speech of the night. I was smiling the whole time. While others disagree, I felt that James Corden and Rebel Wilson making fun of themselves and the movie Cats was hilarious...but they ruined it by that prolonged hitting of the microphone stand. And holy cow - Bong Joon Ho eliciting a standing ovation for Martin Scorsese by crediting him with a quote during one of his acceptance speeches, well, that was just brilliance and respect on the part of the audience! Overall, a rather predictable show...but Max, you the man for your outstanding predictions! I applaud you!

The same thing happened to me. I literally lost my $h!+ when Bong won Director because it forecasted that Parasite might also win Best Picture. When it did, I also screamed hard as hell. But, the Best Director winner announcement was epic.
