@Bowling Circus yeah it's sad how far bowling has fallen. He is still one of my top 5 all-time. He just had too many injuries and at this point, I don't think he cares that much anymore.

@Bowling Circus he had back surgery a couple of years ago. That's why he doesn't look as smooth as when he was younger. I suggested the poker idea in the past to the PBA and got laughed at. Yet they stole my idea of intro music, getting rid of ESPN, and using the bowler's shirts like NASCAR with ads everywhere. If I believed I was the best bowler in the world, I'd have no problem letting amateurs buy-in to the big tournaments. Hell let them bowl a round and if they felt like they can bowl better, let them re-bowl the round for another entry fee. You make tournaments worth 6 figures again, I guarantee you it will be way more exciting to watch. Competing for a $10K first place prize is pretty sad.

@Bowling Circus I used to be on a popular bowling messageboard that was used by a lot of bowlers. I suggested lots of ideas that at the time, everyone thought was dumb. It was really ironic after I suggested using WWE-style intro music to make bowling more mainstream, the PBA now has something similar today. But my thing has always been on how to get more money in these tournaments. Yeah middle-guy payouts on the PBA level is pathetic. I remember a few years ago it was like $300-500 for 10th place. Imagine being the 10th best bowler in the world, and your prize doesn't even cover travel expenses. I make $400-500 for any bowling league I'm in for the year. Any decent amateur/pro can win $500 in a local tournament. Makes no sense. Not sure why the PBA has this restriction on amateurs. The US Open is one of the bigger tournaments and that's because it is an "OPEN". All the tournaments should be like that. If you are a pro and truly one of the best, you shouldn't be afraid of having local amateurs compete with you. Yeah I think Mika and other young guys like Josh Blanchard are retiring is because bowling ain't paying the bills. You can make a lot more money at a decent 9-5 full time job. If I were top tier pro level, I'd probably own a proshop, offer bowling lessons for like $50/hr, and compete in tournaments if I had free time. Probably focus more on local tournaments since they would be easier to cash in on.

@Bowling Circus yeah our league has pretty high payouts. I wish I lived in an area still that had scratch h2h matches. That's where you bowl against a lot of good bowlers and ex-pba bowlers. I got destroyed in those, but you improve a lot too. But yeah comparing bowling 4-5 games total to win $200-300 in those matches vs. bowling 40+ games to maybe win the same amount if you place outside the Top 10, it makes no sense. Hopefully Fox keeps pushing bowling higher. ESPN did a lot of long-term damage.

T.Johnson had a tough 10th frame (two bad shots) but otherwise, the ladies were solid. The men had a few bad breaks, but also weren't bowling as well as the ladies, who kicked some ass with great shots and definitely deserved the win.
