You can't say "let them race" this week, but say Hamilton deserved a penalty last week. If Ricciardo hadn't swerved off track to avoid him, he would have been torpedoed in the side. It's like if the driver on the outside swerves to avoid the torpedo, then you call it "the racing we want to see", but if the one on the outside doesn't avoid then you condemn the one on the inside for doing THE SAME THING.

@@Euclides287 the only one's NOT calling this race boring are the people who've grown completely numb to Mercedes dominance. @@OnionChoppingNinja F1 isn't just about what's going on at the very top. For a large proportion of fans, there is a lot of interest in the very tight battle behind Mercedes and Red Bull. You also can't say it's predictable. Yes it's pretty easy to predict a Mercedes 1-2, but who would've predicted Norris P3 in the Championship? Who would've predicted a Williams in Q2? Perhaps most importantly, who would've predicted Ferrari to have the 5th/6th fastest car? To use a football analogy, would you call the Premier League this season predictable since either Liverpool or Man City were always gonna win the league? No, you wouldn't because Leicester are currently 4th, Wolves are 6th and Sheffield United are 7th.

@@NardKoning When he arrived he drove the car yes, but he didn't lap Ricciardo or Ricciardo didn't lap him. And that's the point here, we're talking about lapping his team mate or putting him 40s before pitting. After years with him the car is thought for him and he gets the new upgrades (which is normal, if one guy should have them before the other it's him) so that's why Gasly or Albon have such a hard time. There's no argument to make about other new driver because they don't get lapped by their team mate.

The “schooled Bottas part” annoys me so much. Bottas schooled everyone last race, in a much tougher and unforgiving race but no one said anything about that it was just a “good race” and “Bottas backed of so Max schooled him” and Max had damage well Max’s damage didn’t seem to do anything according to Max while Bottas damage actually (according to Mercedes) made him lose a little pace or handling or whatever it was and Max and Bottas both knew that Bottas would pass and Bottas knew he couldn’t catch Hamilton anyways, so he backed of and passed safely next lap instead of maybe jeopardizing his race and position. It was just a smart calculated move from Bottas. And just giving someone a better car doesn’t always mean they do better, most recent proof of this is Pierre Gastly (of course it’s not always like this but it’s not a guarantee that Max will be better) Also I’m not saying Max didn’t do anything good, I love Max and his defending there was amazing. But man this bias... Edit: I want to add this as well. Lewis couldn’t pass Bottas with 3 safety cars while Bottas had the more troubled car and Verstappen wasn’t in the race because of DNF last week. So I personally don’t see how Bottas could have driven any better and gotten anything but 2nd when Lewis now has a car that works, he is in clean air and didn’t have damage like Bottas. I give Bottas an A rating this race. Edit 2: Mercedes just now said that Bottas lost at least a tenth per lap because of the damage which hurt the downforce and balance of the car.
@GloomGaiGar
@GloomGaiGar 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Max was amazing. Bottas, unlike Albon, was patient and went for the safer move.
@Fabbie4
@Fabbie4 4 жыл бұрын
Bottas didnt school everyone last race at all. He produced a sparkling qualifying performance to take pole which ultimately won him the race. His closest competition had a 3 place grid penalty. which by the time he negotiated the traffic and max dropped out gave Bottas an 8.5 sec head start. a gap which disintegrated rapidly and he was saved by the safety car. Then after the safety car, he held Hamilton back, but never broke free of DRS until James called the fight off. Then once Hamilton and Albon collided, it was plain sailing. all that said, however, he deserved an A* last week. the reason he only gets a B for me is the gap to lewis didnt close. no attempt to go for the win.
@tigerchuu2148
@tigerchuu2148 4 жыл бұрын
Fabbie4 Well, Bottas had the more troubled car of course Lewis could catch him and the fact Max wasn’t there holding Lewis up last race only helps Lewis. Not only that 1 failed safety car restart and the position is lost. The safety car definitely did not help him at the start because he had a lead and lost it because the safety car let everybody catch up. The fact that Hamilton couldn’t pass him in DRS range either shows how good he was defending after the safety car let Hamilton catch up. He won in a Mercedes on the verge of dying. I don’t agree with you at all on some statements but I see where you’re coming from. This week however it’s an A for me even more because of the fact that Ham had a fully working car while Bottas had a damaged car which made him lose at least a tenth per lap according to Mercedes themselves, and had back markers who didn’t let him pass when they had a blue flag which made him lose 3 seconds which is enormous in F1 and he had problems with the car in quali which made him slower (although he could have driven a bit better for 3rd or 2nd at least) but still. I’m mostly annoyed because when Hamilton wins it’s like “Hamilton is perfect no wrongs bla bla bla” but when Bottas has an amazing race it’s just “meh”

@@tigerchuu2148 What are you talking about, Hamilton was faster than Bottas all the way through the FIRST race.....During the first race Hamilton who had to use wear on his tyres to overtake still managed to haul in Bottas who was way ahead of him running in clean air, that shows that Hamilton can drive conservatively looking after his tyres and STILL drive as fast as Bottas, otherwise he would not have started reeling him in when Bottas's tyres dropped off, only the SC saved Bottas, when they changed to the hard tyre Hamilton was right behind but couldn't pass , when Hamilton leads he always leaves Bottas for dead, that's the difference, even though Hamilton made errors he was still faster than Bottas throughout the first race Explain how that was Bottas Schooling Hamilton??

Don’t understand this either. Hamilton had an amazing quali and we can all agree on that. But he could literally have turned of his brain this race and still won. Bottas had to manage a damaged car (more damaged that Lewis’s car), do 3 safety car restarts which also let everyone catch up to him for free without using their tires. It’s beyond me how they give their scores honestly. The “he was just a tenth quicker in quali last race so it’s not as impressive” argument is also so bad because it’s even more impressive that he pumped a lap so fast he set a TRACK RECORD and beat the best Lewis could do. It’s dumb honestly

The Stroll incident should have been the easiest penalty ever. He forced another car off track and he completed an overtake off track. Either one of those is an easy penalty but doing them both at the same time should have been a guarantee. And it's not like Stroll was even close to making the move work. His nose didn't catch up to Ricardo until after Ricardo was already turning in well into the braking zone and he had all 4 wheels on the wrong side of the sausage which is a full cars width off the track.

How anyone can see Stroll outbreak himself and almost smash into Ricciardo's side and say "Yeah, that was a good move" is beyond me, because if Ricciardos reactions were a tad slower, or he trusted Stroll, and followed his racing line (leaving space on the inside for Stroll) then that is exactly what would have happened. Do we really want to set a precedent that it's ok to either push your rival off track or slam into them?

Azerbaijan 2017? I know he got a bit lucky with Hamilton and Vettel's problems, but you know if it was someone like Sainz or Ricciardo who did that then people would be singing their praises.

You both are delusional. That was reckless. He didn’t even make the corner, and yet he gained a position. I think the objective in circuit racing is to be be the fastest on the track. If you can just leave the track to make positions, cut corners, lock up into a run off area, etc, what is the point of track limits?

If I were Red Bull I would be looking in one direction, west… It’s clear that they are not happy with the available drivers from other teams or from the theater series. But there is someone who has all of the points necessary for an F1 super license and has all the talent they could ever need. Scott Dixon. Just Watch Scott Dixon race through the field in this crazy season and told me that that man cannot handle another 25% horsepower or learn to drive new tracks. Yes applicable skill is very important and it would take a lot to bring him up to speed with faster cars and new tracks but his talent and track record are far beyond anyone who is available in F1 or in the feeder series.

Kind of disagree about the racing point drivers, Stroll was ahead of the Ferrari incident while he started behind Vettel, he made a couple of passes after that in the DRS train and ahead of Perez until his stop. If anything, Perez deserves praise for extending his first stint as much as he did, his tires were so much fresher at the end, passing was quite easy.

On the riccardo stroll incident, I too like the old school, let them race. Also, maybe with a bit of foresight Daniel could have done a switch back, Braking earlier and allowing stroll to go wide all by himself. It was the second last lap and stroll seemed desperate after being stuck behind for so long.

Hey guys, just had an idea to bring the field closer together and limit budgets at the same time. Lets say teams get a basic budget of 100million, they are allowed to spend up to 250 million, but every 5 million they go over 100 costs them 1 point, they start with 50 points and the points are needed to change various part on the car. This would allow the back of the field to experiment more to develop their car while still allowing the big rich teams to invest a lot into the cars albeit sacrificing the ability to change parts during the season.

The Stroll - RIC thing wasn't an accident because RIC thought: whatever. I want to live. Would he not have gone out of the way and off the track it would have been a full on collision. So Stroll should not have gotten away with this "I am not braking for turn 3". I like racing as well but kamikaze stuff like this is not how you overtake.
