5ft mom of 2 here! I have the 2018 4Runner and love it! A little hard with the infant carrier but doable. Obsessed with the trunk space. We can pack all the kids stuff, luggage for a weekend away and even my husbands golf clubs. We have gone through flooded roads and snow storms and this has always made us feel extremely safe! The back trunk window rolls all the way down which is fun for indirect air circulation when driving in the summer too. It’s nice :) Also helpful if we need to lug anything that’s too long to normally fit in the trunk. Love your videos!!!

I feel like you nailed the description of the mom that drives this. Lol. I think I’m a “cool” mom, mostly in the sense that I don’t care about playing in mud or making a mess or whatever. And one of my favorite things about driving a 4Runner is feeling like I own the road. I really love the truck feeling, but yes, the gas mileage is killer.

I drive a 4 runner for 10 years now. I love it! I have had zero issues with it. Get my oil changed when needed and that’s it. I get compliments on it all the time. When I take it in for oil change the guys always say they can’t believe it’s 10 years old because it doesn’t look it. I used it with two kiddos in car seats. I am 5’4” and love how I sit in it. I will agree seats are firm but they clean nicely. I have the third row option and love it for when we have extra kiddos with us. I have sat back there and it’s fine for me but someone taller maybe not. I have even used car seats in third row. I love that the middle seat middle part opens separate from the two sides. This is nice for kids to get to back seat to crawl through middle. It has been a great reliable vehicle for us for 10 years! I have 158,000 miles and still going strong.

Mom of 3 - love the 4Runner, we have three slimmer car seats. The only thing is the doors are heavy and you can’t open the lift gate with a button which is a huge con - however it’s the trade off for a back window that rolls down which is a major plus for our dog.

Sometimes people prefer knobs instead of a bunch of touch screen controls because if the touch screen ever fails; you have zero control over climate, volume, etc. Knobs are definitely more reliable for that reason!

Great review! My husband has a 2016 4Runner and we use this car for long trips, hiking, off roading, all of the above! It fits car seats much more easily than my MDX. We also LOVE the trunk space! Can we see an updated tour of this vehicle with the third row?
@reneeprice-braschler23623 жыл бұрын
I’m so stoked you did this tour. I’ve got a 2011. Same body style, pretty much the same amenities minus the touch screen. We have car seats 3 wide in the middle seat. Britax bucket seat and two Diono Radian RXT seats. It’s a tight fit but it does work and big my kids can get in and out without issue. We have done an aftermarket 3rd row install. If you want that 3rd row... trade that bad boy in for one that has it already installed!!! But. We got it done and it does create another space for my kids to sit (only in low back boosters). My kids are 6&7 and have plenty of leg room and space between them so they don’t fight 🙂 Con of the third row: there’s literally NO trunk space left when third row is up. That’s a huge bummer. Also. When third row is down, it’s at an angle, so things fall out when we open the back door. That’s a bummer with groceries. Overall we LOVE this car. It’s durable as heck. And even at 10 years old, it still looks badass. We’ve done snow trips, kayaking, surfing, off-roading, and camping in this beast and she’s great for that lifestyle. Also - 100% accurate on the “trucky” comment. I love that feel. Feels safer to be up that high
@lindsayhoopes97963 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have a 2016 with 2 kids and am pregnant with my 3rd. I don’t want to trade it in for a minivan! Do you mind telling me the exact Britax car seat you have that fits 3 across with 2 Diono Radian RXTs? My kids will be 5 and 3 by the time the baby arrives.
@reneeprice-braschler23623 жыл бұрын
@@lindsayhoopes9796 I had a Britax B-Safe 35 infant seat in the middle (used seatbelt to secure base - no anchors there) and a diono radian rxt on either side. They used the 5 point harness until they reached the weight limit. They’re now in low back Graco boosters, side by side. (One behind passenger one in the middle). It’s tight but doable!!

The 4 runner is my dream suv. We are a family of 5 and currently have a 7 passenger Toyota Sienna. My husband has a f150 and the kids love sitting in the bench seat 3 across. We have a 2 y/o, 6 y/o, and 8 y/o. Older two are in the backless booster and my 2 year old In a forward facing car seat. We love our van but are moving to our farm and ground clearance could be beneficial in deep snow living in the country. & we were considering getting rid of the van for an suv. As a big fan of the 4 runner I so want to buy it but concerned about space with 3 kids our ages and safety. we are not having anymore children, and have considered the Subaru ascent and other suvs. What are your thoughts as a 4 runner owner with 3 kids.
@reneeprice-braschler23622 жыл бұрын
@@christinaparsons8049 totally doable. My big kids have bumped to low back boosters and the baby is now in a Chicco convertible seat. Buckling takes some practice. The big kids have to go one at a time. But it’s comfortable, they have plenty of space to move around, and they loving being able to play together while riding in the car. I will say this: if you’re buying a new (to you) 4runner - get the third row as an option to spread them out if/when you need to.
@christinaparsons80492 жыл бұрын
@@reneeprice-braschler2362 thank you so much for replying! I definitely would get the 3rd row option if we decide to go this route. I definitely like the more rugged-ness and it has just enough technology and not covered in it. I guess I’m more old school. 🤷🏼♀️haha. But I really appreciate your reply. All the videos I’ve seen just has people throwing their hands up at not enough room because it isn’t huge like a expedition. I love your reviews- you do a great job! I just bought a 20214Runner Limited with the third row option and I love it so far. I watched a lot of your reviews to help in my search! My kids are a little older (6&9) so its been perfect for us. The only thing I don't like about it is no power lift gate. The sales guy told us since the window is automatic the door is too heavy for it to have an automatic lift gate too. 🤷🏼♀️ If I had babies/strollers still it would have been a deal breaker. But since I don't- I liked it enough to sacrifice that feature. He also told us that the ground clearance on the limited is lower for a smoother ride- I initially didn't consider the 4Runner because I thought it would drive too much like a truck but was pleasantly surprised when it was smoother than I thought..

Yeah the cup holders kinda suck. Also when driving with a tumbler of coffee, it spills easily because the higher center of gravity means every bump and turn is more pronounced. I drive a 2020 4Runner and was so hurt by this review because I’m sensitive 🤣 but honestly I went from a 2019 Honda CRV touring edition (Boujee interior with all the extras) to this and I’d never go back! The CRV had better technology but also more glitches, the automatic lane assist in the CRV almost got me into a wreck trying to correct my lane while getting off the highway. I love the simplicity of the 4Runner honestly and the amazing trunk space and truck base. I’ll never get stuck parking somewhere crazy at a packed out baseball game or party, or worry about driving in weird weather or when off roading when getting to hiking locations. The huge graco car seat for my 2 year old fits way better, with room to spare and the trunk fits my massive jogging stroller with plenty of room as well. I really have no complaints, I love love love this vehicle and the fact that it has an optional 3rd row for my older sons friends when needed is a huge bonus!

Had a 2016 4Runner Trail Premium (now TRD Off-Road Premium). Got rid of it because Toyota seems to have something against updating their vehicles. If you wanted push to start, keyless entry, power tailgate, auto on headlights you had to get the Limited which is the top model. Also took them until recently to add CarPlay and some other tech that is pretty standard in most cars these days. It was a $45k vehicle, and should have some of these simple creature comforts. Hopefully a full remodel is in the near future.

Have always driven a forerunner from the time I could drive. 2003,2005, and now 2016. Can’t imagine driving anything else but quickly realized it was not great for me with a baby being 5’2. Difficult to get baby in rear facing Nuna with high seats.. also baby’s head hits roof when I put in. Have to stand on step rails to get up high enough to tighten straps properly. Small vents in back that don’t cool rear facing. No lane assist in 2016. Head lights are SUPER dim for night driving. Toyota won’t put in halogen is what they’ve told me. Another auto shop might. Don’t feel like car heats up quickly in winter. Blue tooth is horrible between my sister with the same car- have to put on speaker every time. Have both done software updates for bluetooth with Toyota - still issues. Trunk space good. No major issues with parts-reliable. Love the car just have not for being a mom who talks to her sister a lot in the car. Much easier to put baby in husband’s Chevy Truck with lower seats.

My thoughts: I recently traded in my 2016 4Runner for a couple reasons. I LOVED my 4 runner (and would have bought another) with the exception of a few things: you can’t get them standard with power lift gate, remote start, cooled seats, heated wheel or smart entry door handles. And as a mom I certainly need a smart key/keyless entry and power lift gate (I don’t want to keep track of my keys!). Those were all deal breakers for me, not being able to get a 2021 vehicle with those things standard is crazy! I would buy another in a heartbeat if they make those standard! When we were looking we drove the 4Runner it just didn’t feel right at all. Of course my husband loved it lol. I’m from the Pacific NW and we have Subarus everywhere. Would love to see you do an outback wagon and maybe an SUV.

Thank you so much! Grew up with my mom having a 1997 4Runner...and I (as a mom of 2) do not think this vehicle has come super far from then. The interior to me is zzzz for the price point. I’m going to steer to something more techy. It’s def a “cool” mom car. I am not a cool mom😂 Lost my cool card long ago when I got my sporty Subaru Outback.

Is there a 5 seater mid-size suv that could fit 3 child seats across - infant, forward facing convertible, and high back booster? We have a larger family vehicle we use for normal family outings and trips, but I’m looking for a vehicle that I could use for everyday commuting and still be able to fit the kids in a pinch.

Do you feel like two high back boosters and a graco rear facing would fit back there?

How is the leg room in the passenger seat though when you have a rear facing and/or forward facing car seat behind it? Specifically for someone on the taller side (6’2”).

I had a 1995 4Runner and it looked the same as this 2020 model 😂. I am surprised you said you liked it. I would have thought you would have said as a mom, you would skip this one and that there are better options

One thing about Toyota or atleast the Tacoma I’m assuming it’s the same in the 4 runner, is to change your song you press up on the steering wheel controls and then to turn your music up and down it’s left and right on the buttons I really hate that. Wouldn’t up and down make more sense for volume and left and right be better for changing the song? It just doesn’t make sense.

We have one human baby and two shepherd mix babies. The 4Runner is perfect for transporting them all together 😂

I work at a hospital and the employee parking lot is FILLED with 4runners. I always liked how the exterior looked, but rode in the back seat of one on a short road trip and wasn't impressed 🤷♀️

Would love to see the comparisons of the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisades. I enjoyed watching this tour. I love the cool mom look but a lot of the features are basic and a little small inside. It drives like a truck and I like that. I need a 8 passenger SUV tour that doesn’t hurt the wallet. Could you do those two vehicles next please? Thank you!

I actually have a comparison tour on my IGTV (@the_car_mom)! and I have individual tours of both on my story highlights. I will be posting a full 2021 Telluride tour on YT soon!
