Hakone is 55 miles of west mountain resort from Tokyo. A hotel and a luxurious house are in line. When it's compared to the United States, it's Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. Winding road where a sea, a mountain and a lake are here and follow with eternity. The place where a sports car and a classic car gather round. And they're rich.

Hello Andrew! Thanks for the review and test drive! I totally love the interior of the Hakone with the tan color and suede accents. Also the exhaust sound is not that bad for this price class! I would love to try the manual version! It's also a good daily driver since it has four seats and foldable in the back! Awesome!

@Rtcmanga_YouTube_Channel
@Rtcmanga_YouTube_Channel 4 жыл бұрын
@@goldpony I would probably get the 370z as well. Even though the handling of the GT-86 gets a lot of praise, which I want to try on a windy road, the 370z feels more like a solid sports car that was build with value and pride. My driving experience with an automatic 86 in Japan left a cheap impression to me, specially the interior...

It's a shame most people don't appreciate these cars. They aren't fast, but they handle and feel almost like a Porsche Cayman. Hopefully the 2nd generation won't be much heavier or dumbed down. I don't have high hopes for it, knowing Toyota.

Toyota really screwed up with putting the rear view cam on the mirror instead of the head unit screen...that feature was 2005 technology on a Tacoma..not on a 2020 86. They really need to update the head unit and put the cam view on the head unit where it belongs... my 2 cents. :)

Toyota version should have Toyota engine from new 2.5 Camry, only tuned for performance. Not only is it easier to modify, it's also way lighter so center of gravity and weight distribution wouldn't be an issue. And rumours have it, that turbo version of that engine will make it's way to upcoming lexus iS, so they could make turbo 86 version too.

Excellent platform, horrible price/peformance ratio, terrible power plant (made of glass) but overall I could def see the appeal which for most of us is its potential which is really high on this platform. The problem I have with this car is, after all the money I'll have to dump into this car to get it perform where I want it, I could've purchased a much better performing car. Toyota totally missed the mark on this one with pricing. Not gonna go into how bad the motor is to modify as that's already common knowledge in the tuner community as K-swaps are common with this chassis. These cars are imo only worth it if you get them used and modify or manage to find a dealer that isnt gonna bend you over on the msrp and that's a long shot...

Two totally different cars that can't be compared. One is a noisy, cramped RWD sportscar, the other is a large FWD cruiser that is much more comfortable and quiet on long trips. Two different priorities. Yes the Si handles great, but it will never feel like a low-slung RWD sportscar like the 86.

@sterlingroberts6240

It’s engineered in specifically for increased torque above and below 4,000rpm, effectively allowing for two cars in one. An extremely fuel efficient daily with 50 miles per gallon(average) at 50 miles per hour(average), and a solid, wide power band(100+HP/L) for spirited driving when called upon. Learn to drive, and you won’t notice it. The “dip” is only a downside if you’re drag racing, so if that’s important, buy a different car. Many other cars have such dips, and Porsche’s are often good examples. But yes, you can “fix” it by being a “better” engineer than those who do it for a living, as long as you understand the basic premise behind engineering: compromise.
@sterlingroberts6240
@sterlingroberts6240 4 жыл бұрын
To reiterate, the dip is illusory. There's actually just more torque above and below it that just wouldn't be there in a more conventionally designed boxer 4 at that price point and displacement. Both torque per litre, and specific power output are quite high for a naturally aspirated four, even more so at that price point. I love the ”dip” because I understand what it means. Hopefully you'll be able to appreciate it more now.

Sterling Roberts how do you get a 50 mpg average I'm only getting 22.7 average. Then again I'm mostly in the streets with a lot of stops and stuff and I don't really do too much highway driving.
@sterlingroberts6240
@sterlingroberts6240 4 жыл бұрын
Lit Teddy Bear, that's a highway-only example of a trip I took, partially to test max sustainable mpg. I live in the Texas Hill Country as well, so West Texas(flat, straight roads) could get you a higher figure. I get no more than 33 usually(mixed driving), because I know what car I drive. The following apply to both city or highway driving. 1. Obviously, use a bare minimum of throttle to maintain speed in the highest gear possible at the time. This is most relevant for highway driving. 2. When accelerating, do so in a reasonable manner, but shift before 3,300rpm, as this is where the engineered-in torque boost at low rpm begins to taper off. Keep in mind, I believe it’s possible super slow acceleration can actually hurt fuel economy(Engineering Explained might have a video on that). 3. DO NOT “lug” the engine by being in too high a gear for the current engine load. Generally, this is anything under(or sometimes over) 2,000rpm, but will vary with acceleration demand, incline, weight, altitude, wind, temperature, humidity, etc. 4. Bear in mind, you’re engine’s ECU will not inject fuel if you are in gear and not pressing on the throttle(unless rpms approach idling speeds of around 750). If you want the best fuel economy and reduced brake wear, KEEP THE CAR IN GEAR until around 1,000 rpm when coasting to a stop. This is especially important for city driving. Remember, you will have to downshift to accelerate again, so pay extra attention(all the time) to people behind you(or anywhere), and don’t get caught in 6th gear at like 20 mph. You can bounce down through the gears to a stop, but that will be more wear, more fuel, yet more practice, and potentially more cool sounds! Engine breaking is greater in lower gears. 5. Plan ahead for things that might cause you to brake unnecessarily, and coast to them or pass cars before you get blocked in. 6. Sacrifice a little speed uphill and coast downhill to avoid extra aero penalties at higher speeds. 7. For the all-out best fuel economy, try cruising around 2,500(maybe down to 2,000) rpm in any year model or transmission choice. I'm not sure if every year has it, but mine has an instantaneous fuel economy readout in the dash, so that will tell you what rpm to aim for. For highway driving specifically , if you want the most balanced combination of travel time and fuel economy, DO NOT EXCEED 3,300rpm(roughly). Any automatic BRZ/86 should have a higher average speed(due to taller gearing), followed by ‘13-‘16 manuals, and then ‘17-‘20+? model years. There is always a small chance your car has an issue/modification that could be affecting engine performance. Even an oil change or air filter can affect mpg. Seriously, let me know in a month or two how these help, as I’m a curious guy! I'll update it I think of anything else, but that's mostly it.

Would need a turbo or bigger engine though, so would be even more expensive. The money has gone in to the handling and the engineering quality, which is a good thing tbh. The reason competitors are cheaper is they make far more of them, or are based on shared platforms to reduce costs. This is a bespoke sports car.

It grows on you and also looks better in person. Trust me I hated it when it came out, and I own the first gen FRS.

Not worth, everything feels cheap AF compared to similarly priced cars and both people I know that own an 86 have had to take it for repairs multiple times in the first 2 years.

this car is hilarious. Paying 30k for a slow car and takes premium gas with less than stellar mpg. Who would buy this instead of a 370z or Camaro? The sales numbers on these must be terrible

Speed isn't everything. It's not even slow with that being said. It's light and handles incredibly well. Great platform for the track.

I get 50(49.7)mpg with an average speed of 50-55MPH if I’m in the mood. I don’t have to try to get around 33, and that includes sliding around every empty street-corner or on-ramp I can find. Just because you don’t understand why some people are willing to pay for smoked Gouda, bacon, and avocado on their single-patty burger, doesn’t mean your McDouble is better. **I don’t expect you to understand, but I do hope you figure it out before it’s too late.
