Erik, you should train the salesman at Modern Toyota in Winston Salem, NC. We purchased our 2020 Highlander in September of 2020... asked if it had remote start and was told no. Here I am two years later researching something else and accidently find your video. Merry Christmas to us, I've always wanted remote start! We had it many years ago on a vehicle and have missed it. I just tried it and it works great!

We could have more clearly mentioned it. But you will need to press the lock buttons in the sequence indicated, let me know if it still does not work.

You should try and do the same pressing action on the unlock button of the controller as you did to remote start the car. Most manufactures will do one of two things, roll down the driver and passenger side windows or roll down all windows and open up the sun roof when do press unlock; unlock; unlock (hold).

@@campbellrivertoyota It works. I have a 2020 Highlander Platinum and the unlock, unlock, unlock (hold) opens all windows. However, this feature has to be programmed by the dealership. I read about this feature in the owners manual, I contacted the dealership to get it programmed.

If you started it remotely, then change your mind, is there a key sequence to stop the engine? Yea, it will time out and stop in 10 mins but I'd rather not waste the energy.

Hi John, Yes there is. Press the unlock button on the Key Fob, and it will turn the engine off.

HI ES250, I suggest returning to only driver door unlock/lock using the main audio/nav screen. Select Menu > Settings > Vehicle Settings > Door locks and adjust as desired. Thanks for the question!

After the 1 year trial period of the remote connect services is over, can you still start it with the remote?

yes the fob should still allow you to remote start your Toyota. We are not sure the total length of time this will stay active for.

Within the head unit, there are settings which can be configured to increase or decrease the feedback volume of the unlock/lock function.

Great question! You can do this two ways. We will publish a follow-up vid going into depth on both ways. For the time being, use the touchscreen. This method will work for Toyota highlanders 2020 and newer. Once the car is on, select: Menu > Setup > Vehicle > Vehicle Customization > Door Lock settings > 2-Press unlock (Off).

I have the 2020 Limited NEAT. UM odd scenario, I want to lock my dog in the car while its running and I can go inside and run an errand. How do I do that? I assume you need two keys to do that, which I have since my dealer gave me two. BUT you can't lock your door upon exit. It unlocks itself. Which is frustrating.

Hi Tdata, yes you are correct. This is a feature so one does not lock their keys in their car or SUV in your case. What you are looking to do, wont work the way you want it to. Although we can't reccomend you leave your pet in the car while it is hot outside, we can reccomend this alternative. Try to use the your Toyota's remote start functionality to accomplish this, it will run your car 10 min at a time.

THOUGH I DO WISH the car would keep the other doors locked so it would discourage potential dog thieves while I run errands, That's annoying that when in park, it unlocks all the doors and when you open your door it unlocks all the other doors as well. WHICH wouldn't that be a safety issue. In the same way why cars light up at night when you unlock your car, to make sure you don't have an intruder in it. Also, why does it chime when I turn the car off, I have yet to figure out the magical combo to not chime. Since 1 in a hundred times the chime won't activate when the car is parked and off.

@@tdata545 You can update your door lock settings on most Toyota's newer than 2017. Follow these steps on your multimedia display: settings > Vehicle > Door Lock settings. In this screen you'll be able to adjust the door lock and unlock settings. Select the door unlock function, and turn off the auto unlock features. Now all doors will remain locked, when you turn the car off, and open the driver's door. We will post a video on this soon!

Hi Christopher, great question! Please follow this list instructions to access the menu you adjust your door lock setting. Click on Menu>Setup>scroll on the lefthand menu to vehicle>vehicle customization>door lock settings>automatic door lock. You can adjust all door lock settings here. Remote connect app access is free for 1 year and then is a subscription service. However, the use of remote start using your key fob remains free after that 1 yr trial.

Just picked up my hughlander today, i must say this is have to be one of the most outdated and confusing key fob i dealt with. Looks like toyota havent touched this fob since the 90s. Why not make 1 specific button for remote engin start like all other auto makers? No 2 way communication so if you are in home you just have to guess if engin started or not Range is also laughable, and the fact that when i unlock car door the engin stops after i started it with remote this is just baffles me. All other automakers dosnt do that.

Toyota remote connect-get it from you apps store. Also when you try to start the engine remotely make sure you doors are LOCKED or it won't work.

Hi Michael, the 2020 and newer Highlander Limited also come with Remote start. Due the its hybrid nature, the system works somewhat differently but it achieves the same results.

@@asianinashed the free trial is for the ability to start the car with your phone. It's free for a year I believe and then you have to pay a subscription fee. but you can still use the key fob for free but you are limited to distance.

@@asianinashed The app remote start is a 1 year trial. The keypod remote start works forever. I still put on an aftermarket remote start though because the Toyota keypod didn't reach very far or thru walls. With my aftermarket, I can be in a building over 100 feet away and still start the car.
