2020 UNIDAN Global Explorer - U218 UGE Unimog Expedition Vehicle

The latest Unidan Engineering expedtion vehicle build is complete, we present the 2020 Unidan Global Explorer.
The Global Explorer range of expedition vehicles is exclusive to the UGE Unimogs (the round cab Unimogs). The acronym 'UGE' is used by Mercedes-Benz to describe the implement carrier Unimogs and we wanted to give this acronym a second meaning, being Unidan Global Explorer.
This vehicle truly is an international traveler as the ability to switch steering from right-hand drive to left-hand drive (VarioPilot) in a matter of seconds makes it the perfect vehicle for around-the-world exploration.

The Unimog is my consumer's dream, and this one in particular is most special. Now a funny anecdote. In 2010, my wife and I drove around Patagonia almost 8 thousand km in a rented Chevrolet Corsa (Argentines call it the poor man's 4x4), without a glitch or a flat. But at the Carretera Austral in Chile, near Puyuhuapi, we saw a Unimog with Austrian plates by the side of the road with a flat tyre, and its owner, fully clad in mechanic's overalls struggling with the enormous wheel and tyre. So, like a trooper, I stopped the Corsa and asked the man if he needed help in English. He stared at me with a look of amazement and said -"nein!" That's pride!

But, it leaves virtually no storage space for tools and equipment. Shovels, snatch ropes, air jacks and the chainsaw he mentioned. All kit for a true overland truck.

Amit Shekhawat the in-depth information is all on our website with 3D virtual walkthroughs so that you can see all the specs at your own pace. As for reasons behind why it is better than a previous design, it isn’t. They are all different models as people prefer different layouts, however one isn’t better than another. They are all built to our same extremely high quality and finishes. I hope this helps!

The living box is mostly air, all below it is solid steel chassis, 480L of fuel, water storage etcetera. It’s definitely bottom heavy not top heavy.

I thought so too, but saw a few mogs in action last year and was very surprised at where the group was taking them. My only concern from that point onwards is low hanging branches

Maintenance costs completely depend on which model of Unimog you purchase and how much you use your vehicle. As for fuel economy, they are between 20-25L/100km for the older U1700 Unimogs and approx. 18L/100km for the new model Unimogs

This is really serious dedicated off-road equipment machine; I wish Unimog issued another 'volks' vehicle without most of these heavy industrial minded frame connection and made a something more than Ford F-150 ( with the same tire size ) or more spacious than LC 70 series for off-road but rugger as it is. New idea should be shaped as old one is, with engine a little bit moved just a 5 cm forward with 4 doors as standard. Something between Hummer and This Unimog but dimensionally same as F-150.

Hi Paul, This vehicle was for a couple that have adult kids who no longer travel with them. Unfortunately the UGE Unimog's only come as a single cab, however we can build expedition bodies on other chassis' in order to have a dual cab with a large enough body for the whole family (Mercedes-Benz Arocs) or the UHE Unimog as a dual cab with a shorter body. Alternatively, we can also have legal seating in the rear of the body. We can build an expedition body for the USA but it would have to be based on a restored older vehicle due to the importation laws in your country.
