Wow, both in their 40s, and they've only been shooting for 3 years. Incredible amount of skill.

Just do it. Get the lightest draw weight, 3-piece takedown you can find in your price/quality range your after. I suggest looking at the Samick Sage recurve in #25 draw weight to start with. Start very low and work on form and aim and just getting your fingers and arms and head and eyes working. Builds back muscles too. Then upgrade the limbs (extra limbs are only like $70) to upgrade the power/draw weight. Every upgrade will probably require new arrows to have the proper arrow spine at rhe higher draw weight. So just start with #20 or #25 and a matched set of a half dozen arrows, and ware them out. Then upgrade limbs and arrows every year or two. You can start all-new for about $250. (Samick Sage is only $120 on ebay right now, and 6 carbon fiber arrows are about $70-80. Plus $10 worth of field point heads, $20 for a decent finger tab. A used or basic arm gaurd is $20-35. That's all you need. A cheap quiver is not required to start, but runs about $30-40.

Barebow seems to be where older archers go to compete. Don't hear about very many, if any, up and coming 24 years olds.
@ParabolicBox4 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that has to do with the training pipeline for younger archers, which funnels them into either Olympic recurve or compound. There might be some element of PR to it, too, since BB isn't well-known outside the archery world.

On the surface, it may seem the case that all of the best barebow archers are older, but it is not accurate. Sure, the majority are probably older, but certainly not all. There are plenty of outstanding barebow recurve archers around the world under 40. A few examples: Grayson Partlowe (semi-finalist in this event) is now just 30, has held U.S. National records for both indoor and outdoor barebow, and was 2nd placed in the 2019 Lancaster Classic (in his 20’s). If I recall correctly, he also held a preliminary world record for indoor barebow early this year. He has been a top barebow archer in the U.S. for a while now. A 15 or 16-year-old Aussie guy, Hugo Lobb, finished in the top 10 places in barebow at the last Vegas shoot, and wasn’t far behind that at the 2020 Lancaster Classic. John Demmer was in his thirties when he won his first World Archery medal. From Europe, Giuseppe Seimandi was around 24 when he won his first World Archery field archery individual medal, and went on to take a number of WA medals in his 20’s as a barebow archer. Cinzia Noziglia, now 35, is the current 50m women’s barebow world record holder, and has something like 8 World Archery barebow medals, starting in her late 20’s. There are other examples, particularly from Europe, but there don’t appear to be many countries outside Europe that have good junior development programs for barebow (or any official barebow development really). That will change slowly now perhaps, with more recognition of barebow by World Archery, but in my opinion will still be a minority compared to the income draw of compound or the Olympic dream draw of recurve. And recurve is likely to almost die at the highest levels in some countries if compound becomes an Olympic sport, due to the difference in potential income while still being able to pursue an Olympic medal dream.

olympic recurve to make the olympics and compound to make a living, so there's no reason to shoot barebow unless you actually wanted to

Many barebow archers use around 24-30 lbs. There is absolutely no need for poundage at 20 yards and with low weight on your fingers you can concentrate on aiming and form. I shoot at Master Bowman level with 20lb limbs.

@@jonathanearman8249 Why is he using such a stiff arrow and heavy point for 40lbs draw
@InFerrumVeritas4 жыл бұрын
They want to reduce their crawl, so that they can be close to point on at 18m. Heavy and long arrows help achieve this. But fat arrows are hard to tune at poundages under 40. It's a balancing act. Clearly it worked here.

TO the announcers.... if you are aiming, even with the tip of the arrow, this IS NOT instinctive. This is aiming with something other than a sight pin. Instinctive archers, which I am one of do not use anything to aim with. WE draw and release. No holding going on either in instinctive shooting. If you draw and hold, you are aiming.
@gblan4 жыл бұрын
If your eyes are open and looking at the target you are aiming, period. Use what ever verbal gymnastics you choose, "instinctive," "traditional," whatever, it is still aiming.
@starleyshelton22454 жыл бұрын
They are string walking. Height is adjusted with three fingers below the arrow. Point of arrow is like a front sight. The lower the fingers below nock of arrow the lower the strike of the arrow. Arrow and plunger tuning take care of most right/left movement. But you are right. It is aiming, not instinct. Any inconsistency of form and you are toast.

"instinctive shooting" is aiming! You shoot when things look and feel right, aka your sight picture. Your not a better person because you feel the force" and shoot "instinctive"!

What are these like...30 lb. bows and 600 spine arrows? I'd like to see hunting rigs. Most bare bow guys I know are pulling 55 and using 500-600 grain arrows and shoving them past a shelf that's not even close to center cut. I did just hear about some dude shooting 325 spine arrows. Show me a picture of the shaft. Unless his rig is cut way past center.
