Totally nit picking. Every review says the same thing as if from a position of authority and knowledge. Yet none of them ever even bother to look in to the structural features of the Amarok that far outweigh the gimmicks. It’s amazing how you always hear complaints from reviewers about the lack of saftey tech. Yet the same people never ever mention the passive saftey features. To me it just outlines the fact that so many of the reviewers are severely lacking in overall understanding of motor cars. We can all read the brochure. The same people will often complain about the lack of active saftey and then complain about traction control etc. maddening.

The black wheel arches only come on the 'Outback Orange's colour! The mud flaps and 4 motion sticker I'm not sure about, but probably the same deal. But this Canyon comes straight from Volkswagen PR 😊

Here in South Africa all the Amarok Canyons have the black wheel arches with mud flaps and the 4 motion sticker with a black roll bar and black side steps...😉 The Canyon also has an extra leaf spring added to the pack.😎 Please go do some homework on all the advanced tech under the skin. Lot's of people aren't aware of the technology built into an Amarok.

My Canyon came standard with the black side steps and mud flaps, 4 motion sticker does not come with it as it has a nice clean Canyon there instead.

It doesn’t have low range but nobody seems to be able get the thing stuck - lol Australia 4x4 rated it as a proper off-road Ute. Pat Callihan tours the whole of Australia with Amarok’s. Sprite of Africa - Amarok’s Sarel Vd Merwe (ex SA rally driver) endorses and helped design the Canyon. Yeah it’s not a real off-road Ute ...sure! I owed a 2.0 Bitdi and I can tell you for sure it’s proper off-road capable. Other utes feel archaic in comparison. Amarok’s value is built in under the skin. It’s actually very advanced. As for the lack of rear airbags - the Amarok is 5star ncap safety rated and still one of the safest utes on the road. You want unsafe, get a Hilux. Good review otherwise- thanks 👍🔥

Regarding the “off-road comments by Matt”, there is an off-road show on Australian tv than uses an Amarok exclusively and takes it where most would fear to go, and it does it perfectly. Also, whilst towing a van.

Well, it's one of it's biggest flaws compared to competitors. Unfortunately shortfalls must also be called out - not everything is perfect

It's actually been here in Australia for 10 years! Would you want this sized truck in the US though?

@@CarSauce yeah, a new contender will be welcome, but they'd only have one shot to get it right. all the trucks are bumping up their gear counts in the transmissions to get better fuel economy and they're burning out clutches, surging, and hunting for gears. solid motor, reliable trasmission, and ample headroom for a 6'6" (198cm) person. most americans with an extended cab truck use the back for tools or speakers depending on the age group, so the rear airbags aren't a big deal. the price is a little steep, but if the quality is there, people will pay for it. they bought the jeep gladiators at a similar cost, after all. thanks for the heads up on this truck.

It's a massively saturated market, especially in the US with trucks. This ute is nowhere near as big as trucks like the F150, so it just doesn't suit (kinda like the Ranger, which isn't super popular for you guys)

The air vents for the rear sits under the front row seats buddy, and there is quite a bit more to safety than having a airbag. Being crumpled up like a ball of foil isn't going to help much if you have airbags. Talk to anyone that has had an accident in a Amarok and they will tell you that they are very happy with it, I've seen multiple horrific accidents where people walked away where you wouldn't expect them to. The delay on the speedo is deliberate, so it doesnt flick between numbers constantly when you are sitting on the verge of say 99/100 kmh. You seem baffled as to why someone would put something in the back of a ute... Think you should take a step back and have a good think about target owners and the reason why you would want one, if you like the engine, but hate the commercialness of it then get a Touareg.

Did you watch the video or are you saying these things as a diehard triggered owner? The ute is fantastic, but I stand by all the criticisms I have said. The car has poor safety features compared to competitors (there is no doubt or argument about that), and the tub is painted and will be scratched to all hell if you put a pallet back there - if you knew much about the ute industry you would know almost all those who do carry pallet in their ute do so in a steel tray, in fact pretty much the only ute you can fit a pallet into the back is the Amarok.

@@CarSauce I watched it but, your reasoning is pretty flawed. firstly you can get the tub coated if you are worried about scratches (Raptor liner it yourself for 250bucks or pay to get it professionally coated up to 1200) or get the rubber mat (Genuine VW one is about 220bcuks, aftermarket is much cheaper). Not everyone wants a tray, in fact if you go look across the world you will notice that Australia is pretty much the only place that makes use of trays so much. In fact the that you can fit a pallet in the tub makes it useful for everyone, it can be your family car and you can still go to the hardware store and pick up a pallet of whatever and be able to fit it in the back. Also you keep saying how its special because its got a front skid plate, Every single Amarok since 2010 has come out with it.
