First: that is called a water separator, second: you gotta put back a little of that diesel, until your see it through the plastic cartridge... :) And it is soo easy, it really takes less then 5 mins. I work as a diesel mechanic and do these at least 3 times a day. Gotta change em every 15000 miles.

So how the water is separated and i dont see any filter outlet pipe. For it to serve as a separator should not the outlet come from top of the filter and water sits at the bottom and can be drained manually or automatically?

I’m not an owner op, but rather a company driver. I always carry spare filters though and it paid off. I just had to change mine, and thanks to this video it was very easy. Thank you. Had to walk 2 miles to buy the tool, but we truckers badly need exercise anyway. Thanks for making this easy with a great explanation. Also grateful that my company checks trucks on every return and makes sure all their drivers have various spare parts for these kinds of situations. Thanks again.

That is your Davco water separating filter not your primary fuel filter your primary fuel filter is inside the frame rail on the driver side behind leaf Spring mounted to the bottom of your fuel pump

Does not matter. Easier to poor into the fuel tank

@@Andy-vh3ns usually you gotta put fresh clean diesel in the housing, not the one you drained lol That housing is called a fuel water saparator, thats why you usually drain the whole thing - to get the water and dirt in the fuel out, and then fill it with new diesel until you see it through the plastic see-through lide. :)

Only thing. That fuel u dumped out of the bottom of the housing is not good fuel. Usually has water and other garbage in it. Just Saying. !
