Yeah the 389's are beautiful and "old school cool". But I agree with you, as far as spending lots of time on the road, I'd much rather have the extra room, the extra comfort and the extra MPG's that a truck like this provides. The new VNL 860's are VERY good looking trucks in my humble opinion.

I was literally scratching my back by grinding it in a doorway when you showed your handy backscratcher. Those things are priceless. Watching your channel and getting insights, as my two brothers and my son are contemplating starting out own little trucking company.It all really started when my brother got his CDL to transport a dragster rig to races around the country. It was a side job. He absolutely loves it and I can't blame him. We all have wanderlust built into the family genes somehow, and can happily spend all day just looking around. Turns out truckers have a great vantage point! Anyhow, thanks for the video here. Is nice to be dialed in, and pull from experience from those whom are already there.

I am one of those weird old people now. I have to be able to shift my truck and I have run Cummins since the early 90s. But other then that I agree with you on the fuel mileage plus the added bonus of so much more room then a 389 or W9. Its a good thing you listened to the boss and waited a couple months for it.

The best places I have found to work on or change the oil on my Tri-Pak APU are in Ocala, Fl. and Birmingham, Al. They didn't install mine, they come on my trucks. Those are the only 2 places { except for 1 time } that I had work on my APU on 3 different trucks over 15 yrs. They were always nice and fast.

I have the same truck, try down shifting once you see the little arrows on the dash. You’ll be surprised how well you can manage that 1850 ft lbs of torque when starting an up hill under load. These trucks are all programmed for optimal fuel economy. You don’t need to be In manual mode to grab a lower gear and you can do it with cruise on. Give it a try.

Love the Volvos, I drove Freightliner and it was obvious why they were cheaper, I bought a two year old that I drove since new. After 1,200,000 miles, I traded for a new Volvo. It was like getting out of a Ford Falcon and getting into a Lexus, smooth, quiet and roomy. Retired in '04, still miss that truck. Just wondering, what's your bobtail weight, my Volvo was heavier than the Freightliner.

You should probably go to the dealer and figure out a way to get that ishifter mounted onto the dash board. That seems like it would always get in the way. I would end up breaking it in an emergency trying to get out of the truck too quickly.

I have only just started watching your videos so the question I am asking may have already been answered but, does your truck have drum brakes or disk brakes, and if you have the disk brakes how do you like them compared to the drum brakes? Very nice video, thanks for sharing, and I agree with you, about gas mileage. When you are footing the bill it becomes a very important topic. I used to run a 26' box truck and putting fuel in that thing changed my driving habits quickly, so yea, those 389 like nice, but how does it help my bottom line? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me pushing a brick that has bad aero. Simple math proves the point.

Do u think super singles or wheel covers would have made a difference to your already great fuel economy?
@markm00004 жыл бұрын
Super singles are a scam. Any money you save is instantly thrown out the window when you get a flat tire. The rim drops down onto the road and completely chews it up. You can't get stopped on the shoulder fast enough to save it, no matter how hard you try. The wheel covers kinda work to help mpg's but they always just get in the way when you're trying to check air pressure or clean the wheels. If you're driving up and down a lot of steep hills I wouldn't get them. Your brakes need as much cooling as possible and those covers will just bake them until they burn.
