Bought this car Nov2020 right before pandemic. Marked down to 21k. No better car available at that price. Car is perfect.

Nice work with this review! I personally really appreciate the reserved, yet athletic flair that this particular Passat model exudes. This is definitely the trim level I would consider, especially in that sweet shade of red! The styling is definitely more on the "basic" side, but that backseat (like you said) is definitely the major selling point of this sedan. Just like your previous review, you did an excellent job with your commentary! Looking forward to what you have coming up next! Keep it up, man. 👍🏼

Thanks for the support! I feel exactly like you, this is definitely the trim I'd go for! Red is my favorite color, white would be nice, but this black makes this car look so sleek!! Loved it!

GIven how much this vehicle cost, I don't see any negative about it. It has more features than its competitor at the same price point. I personally like the look and the ride quality (better than the Accord for sure). The interior material is nice and soft, with plenty of room. The Passat is a great value on the market right now.
@DownshiftPass3 жыл бұрын
Definitely quite a value. Especially when you factor in the size/price ratio. I'd want a bit more technology in my new car though.

Car isn’t slow. It’s not going to win many races but you probably know that if you’re looking at one. Passat is very comfortable, huge inside, quiet, and just a great car to drive. Looks really sharp. MPG is very good. I would buy it again. No regrets. 😊

They sold the black one hours before I got there. All they had left in the R Line trim was a white one and the tourmaline blue. My son, who was with me, asked me to give the blue one a second look. That's the one I bought... and it came with the back windows tinted DARK. For someone looking for a sedan style but doesn't need all of the latest tech and gadgets, this car is perfect for me. 🙂

Thats awesome!!! That blue is a good choice too because you don't see many of those! You made a great choice, especially in R-Line guise! It's such a good looking sedan! Congratulations on the new car!!

I bought this car a month ago. Had to trade in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited when the transmission went out and the engine was well on its way out too. I’m excited to be back in a car again, but I really do miss the Jeep! Although not worth fixing, unfortunately. This car for me is extremely comfortable, surprisingly. It’s hard to find a good seat since I’ve had multiple back surgeries. I have decided that I appreciate the simplicity of the interior of my R Line Passat. I enjoy the lane assist, cruise assist, etc. (these weren’t available in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited). Also, driving in the rain in this car was amazing! No more flying all over the road when I hit a puddle and the windshield wipers slowed down and sped up according to the downpour. ☺️ I live in the Low Country so puddles on the road are a common occurrence. LOL However, the radio and rear view camera are probably my two biggest complaints. The rear camera is okay during the day but at night, you can’t see a thing if there are no street lights around. Plus, it doesn’t let me know if I’m backing into anything. Only if something moves behind me. I appreciate your honest review and I have to say I totally agree!

Its quite an enjoyable car. I love technology so I just wish it had a little more of that, but otherwise a very solid and smart buy!
@LeslieF03304 жыл бұрын
@@DownshiftPass same here. I do enjoy the simplicity of it vs some others. I’m still really disappointed about the Jeep. Only had 126,000 miles. I thought it would’ve gone longer. Anyway, the Passat is growing on me. I definitely feel safe in it!

Love the new restyle of this Passat. It's very elegant. The new lines give it a sexy and upscale look.Very Handsome looking car. I saw one the other day in the grocery store parking lot and the new lines just jumped right out at me-LOVE it. Though, 174 hp and 206 Lb Ft of torque is enough, its the point of mention that the price, especially on this R Line is $30,000; and the fact that the car is a total redesign, it deserves more power. In addition, VW didn't put any effort into restyling that interior. Though, the interior is nice, its the same interior since 2012. VW didn't want to put too much money into the car's interior redesign, as they claim that EVERYONE wants an SUV. However, all the other makes such Honda (Accord), Mazda 6, Nissan Altima are all cutting edge interior designs, and all offer more power. Furthermore, the interior has too many hard plastics. Though VW has managed to hide those hard surfaces well, it's the point that this car cost $30,000. I still love the car because it looks great and its HUGE inside. Though, VW used to be renowned for high end upscale interior quality as German cars tend to be that bested all the competition. I LOVE the 19" rims. They look fantastic. However, for $30,000, this R Line should at least have the Arteons 2.0 liter turbo with 268 and 258 Lb Ft or torque ( and that amount of power in the Arteon is not enough for the amount the Arteon cost-$35,000 to $50, 000 price point; the Arteon itself should have at least 300 horsepower and 300 Lb Ft or torque and the VR6 for that kind of money). However, I'll save those comments for an Arteon review. This Passat base model S, the SE, and the SEL should at least have the GTI's engine with 228 horsepower and 258 Lb ft of torque. VW also should have put a lot more effort and completely restyled that 8 year old interior design. I would have liked to have seen the Arteon's dash board, in fact the exact same interior of the Arteon in this new Passat. VW could have done a combination interior design of the Arteon and the GTI. The VW Passat use to be amongst the best in class. Now, its just subpar based on every review I've seen. Also, the 7 speed dual clutch transmission would also help the big VW hustle a lot faster. For $30,000, 0-60 miles per hour should be achieved in 6 seconds, not 8.3 seconds. I know I am nit picking, however, at this price point, this Beautiful new Passat deserves more power; deserves a better quality and new interior design. I still would definitely consider this car, as I'm a VW man from WAYYYYYYYYY back. I am just disappointed in VW for not putting the effort into this car's new redesign interior that it deserves. If the R line priced at $25,000 with all the SEL features, then that would be a great value, but not at $30,000. If I were to consider this new Passat, I would probably buy the S or the SE for $22,000-$24,000. VW needs to realize that the midsize sedan is not dead. Look at the contenders in this market segment. The Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Mazda 6, Hyundai Sonata, Kia K9. All of this competitors offer more power and performance along with far greater interior quality and for a lower price.

@@DownshiftPass thanks. I really LOVE the new redesign. I’m disappointed in VW for not giving this car the respect it deserves. The Passats parent company - VW, treats this beautiful Passat like a red headed step child and its EXPENSIVE ! They put the money into their SUV’s, the GTI, and the new Jetta’s dashboard looks like a giant iPad. Yet, this Passat has just been overlooked. VW is stupid. The midsize class is booming. They need to step up their game. Give the new Passat an interior that’s as new and striking as the exterior design. And, retune that turbo engine. I mean, at least bump power up to 210 horsepower and 221 Lb Ft of torque in lower trims and the Arteon’s 2.0 liter turbo in the R Line. A set of 19” rims and a sunroom for $30,000 isn’t gonna cut it.
@DownshiftPass3 жыл бұрын
I'm in agreement with everything you're saying... and to top it all off, the European Passat is actually really beautiful! So its strange we got such a short end of the stick. Huge VW lover here as well so I understand the frustration to the max!
@timothywood49723 жыл бұрын
@@DownshiftPass the European Passat is stunning. I thought we were getting that one; NOPE. However, this new 2020, I do love the restyle. They’re extremely striking. to see in person. VW rounded it off and gave it some nice curves along with maintains even more sharp creases. I do love it. The interior design - same old, same old - old. The 2.0 EA888 turbo 4 makes enough power, but needs more simply because all competitors have MORE. And the pricing on this all new- ( except the interior) is not a bargain. That’s why I mentioned the S and the SE on this 2020 are the best value. I LOVE the looks of the R Line- those rims are to die for - but they’re not worth $30,000. In all honesty, this 2020 Passat should have the Arteon’s interior along with the Arteon’s 8 speed transmission. The European Passat has the same exact interior as the Arteon. In terms of power, like I said, in the S, SE, and SEL I’ll settle for 210 horsepower ( former GTI output) and 221 lb ft- current torque rating of the 2.0 turbo in the Tiguan. However, the R Line needs to be equipped with Arteon engine. This power figures would put this Passat right in line to best the basic 1.5 Turbo in the Accord and the other makes Witt naturally aspirated 2.5 engines. The R Line with the Arteon’s 2.0 would make it competitive with the Accords 2.0T. Though, VW needs to tune up that 258 Ft Lb of torque to 273 lb ft. I know it’s only 15 more Lb Ft, but it’s the point. That torque figure also looks better in paper. Furthermore, plain and simple: MORE is MORE ...... right ? Haaaaaa

I actually couldn't believe it either when I saw it! VW really (IMHO) gave up on this car & now that it's been announced this is the final generation, it makes sense. They spent the engineering money on other vehicles (like the Arteon) BUT it's still a pretty solid car that serves it's purpose well.
