I have never been one to play piano, but find it one of the most beautiful instruments ever made. So you see I have to play things on guitar, which I understand much better, knowing the chord shapes, augments and diminished, inversions. The first time I heard it, my mouth hit the floor. Of course, Piano… on Guitar. But the more I learned about this, it is quite common for people to play virtual instruments on their computer. You can get almost any sound you want from a virtual instrument. And some are REALLY expensive. When I checked into the pricing of Spectrasonics, it was approachable. I had to save up, and then reward myself as a gift, the Fishman Tripleplay and the Spectrasonics softsynths. But I am glad I did. What impressed me even further, was how these can play out to the Eventide Harmonizers. But you can do the same with your Boss gear. Or use your Valhalla. Or use anything, really. Now that is the power of modern production. And it is a real joy to discover, which I know you will. What’s best is how you’ll start producing great music, with every discovery you make. And I’ll be there watching. Keep up the great work Robert! ❤️❤️❤️

I’m sure you would love the Fishman Tripleplay, but it takes time to get familiar with MIDI, at least for me it did. What I love the most is how it will translate velocity, it will hear how hard/soft you’re playing and the MIDI velocity will reflect that.

Thank you John. I have finally learned how to extract the most from my effects mixes, controlling the levels at all points, before and after, as well as final mix. I noticed that pushing up the volume also pushes up unwanted noise, and how to control that with a single EQ.

That was really cool Jim! It screws with your brain seeing you play the guitar, but then not hearing guitar sounds come out of it. I used to like Vangelis but haven’t any of his music now. I did a track a few years ago that was definitely influenced by him. I can’t remember if I did a video for it or not now. It is on my Bandcamp page on the album “Ambience” if you ever want to give it a listen. The track is “Ambience II”
@jimshomestudio3 жыл бұрын
It certainly does! 😊 I think I have over 1500 tracks from Vangelis, was an avid collector for a few years 2004ish. During that time I was separating from my wife and eventually getting divorced, so pretty much devastated. But one of the sellers of his rare tracks recommended Zbigniew Preisner to me, which is a whole other discovery. More gorgeous music. Thanks for the insight, certainly want to hear more on your Bandcamp. Thank you Colin. 👍

@@jimshomestudio Sorry, that you had to go through a bad situation back then. I should investigate him more again. I never remember the name of the album I had, all I remember off the top of my head are the titles, Pulsar, Albedo 0.39, and Spiral. Plus of course Chariots Of Fire as that was everywhere back when the movie came out. I checked and I did upload a version of Ambience II to YT a year or so ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZiygJKXfcalrK8

There’s some details written into the description. This guitar has a Fishman Tripleplay MIDI pickup, and it wirelessly sends MIDI data to a USB dongle. This data is then applied to any sound you want, in this case, Piano from Spectrasonics Keyscape. Now the audio is sent out to outboard Eventide Harmonizer effects. These presets are exclusive library updates from Italo De Angelis. They are responsible for the ambience. Thanks for your time viewing. I’m always happy to discuss! ❤️

Sounds fantastic, Jim. Sweet guitar chording matching the keys parts, sweet. Is that a Xaviere guitar? Never seen a 335 style before.
@jimshomestudio3 жыл бұрын
Yeah this was my first 335 style guitar, after which I went looking for a Gibson. This one was pretty rough on delivery but came around a little bit. Now it has LR Baggs Piezo bridge pickup, 2 Gibson 57 Classic pickups and a Fishman Tripleplay. It doesn’t have great action, but playable. The LR Baggs pots are kinda sketchy, but still works sometimes. 57 Classic pickups are too bright for this all maple guitar, but when you want an 80s distortion, this thing screams. It is my only MIDI guitar, so I use it all the time. The XV-900 if I remember correctly. Made in China, $289 plus for a case.

Doing 1080 in Da Vinci resolve, it took me quite some time to learn how to render proxy video, so that things could be sync’d. Also, MIDI data can be edited easily after the performance is captured, but the core remains. Fishman Tripleplay data includes velocity, perhaps most important to capture subtlety and allow the piano software to translate a gentle performance. ❤️❤️

The tails last so long, that I wait for them to go silent. It forces you to pace yourself while playing. And this is an example of trying to control and amplify the effects mix. They’re recorded separately from the piano track as you had mentioned. These MIDI softsynths, if they haven’t finished loading up, will cause all sorts of pop/clicks. And that’s why I normally don’t film the video of me playing, because the ol’ PC is recording HD video at the same time so the CPU overloads. I have learned to work around that, by being patient and letting them load fully, recording just the MIDI data on the first pass, then working in the effects afterwards using WAV file audio sends, instead of the MIDI. That way the audio comes out clean. It is always an honor to get your feedback Michael, thanks for stopping by today. 💪😊👍
@Michael_Moon42423 жыл бұрын
@@jimshomestudio Always a pleasure Jim :) Yes sometimes the the virtual instruments and fx put heavy load on the cpu. Always have an eye on the overload display. If the mix begins to pop/click its time to render some intruments to audio. But if the mix has just one track and fx and it begin to overload I would consider a new audio workstation pc. I m using a i7-7700K CPU with 32gb RAM and 64bit Win10 its 5 years old and still a good working horse. In the first version all the Komplete instruments were on a SSD and it loaded fast as lighting. After 2 years the SSD said goodbye from one day to another and I had to install _hundreds_ of gigabytes again. So I can't recommend this^^ though it was very convenient. When it was working :D (Man I cant get this melody out of my ears and I remember the melancholic atmosphere. Its one of my alltime favourite movies)
