Having had a 2019 base Q4 and then a 2020 Ti Q4, all these changes seem to apply to the non-QV models as well. The pre-2020 cars have lighter and slightly faster steering, there’s more difference between the drive modes, and the car feels younger, more agile, more memorable to drive. The 2020 is quieter, feels more solid, has more tech, better brake feel, and slightly more comfortable ride, but feels heavier in corners. For a non-QV, I think the best middle ground for luxury and sport is a late summer 2019 built Ti Lusso with adaptive suspension, painted calipers, and rosso/rosso competizione exterior - a comfortable interior but still with the pre-2020 sharp steering, light nimble feel, and sporty looks an Alfa should have 🔥

I don't trust break by wire or any drive by wire. Not only because there is no physical connection. It can be hacked by some I'll meaned crazies. There is a reason NASA employers drive old cars from the 60's and 70's with no chips. Modern cars won't drive anymore after an EMP attack.

Direct injection will usually give a bit more power and better throttle response. Port will spray into the manifold and will clean the housing/valves to prevent that sludge you mentioned. Running Seafoam through a DI intake manifold will usually clean up the performance but can clog Cats. Installing an Oil Separator will keep it all clean.

The side windows are full safety glass like the front windshield. The thin plastic like layer you feel is called Saflex and keeps the glass fragments from flying all over the place in the event of a crash. Like double sided tape.

yes for sure but the new cars are 1mm thicker as the intro of this video confirms, I know when I had the 2021 Veloce loaner car( i did a video months back) that the car was so quiet inside and I later realize the glass. It would be nice if Alfa let everyone know on all these little changes.

Larry Dominique, head of Alfa Romeo NA reported in a podcast that Alfa has fixed a lot of things at the factory and also made improvements to the car. His background is engineering so Alfa is in good hands. Considering the Giulia is only 5 years from the drawing board, it is a wonderful car and keeps getting better in Customer Satisfaction Index and service reliability index.

Hey, @AF! Great to see your comparison video. I know this is the first of many to come. You’ve coached me through my 2017 and I still enjoy the car every single day. Only about 16,500 miles on it, as I work from home. I have many of the mods you have on your 2018. I have the Centerline X-pipe, air filter, and I have an ECU upgrade provided by Fabspeed Motorports. Local dealer is taking care of me and doing warranty work around the tune (which is why I got the tune). Runs super strong. I really hadn’t entertained getting into a new one, but you have me second-guessing myself now. Factory warranty ends Jan. 2022. It was SO difficult for me to find a Trofeo White with Dark Tecnico wheels. Anyways, always appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, my Man.

with the issues mine had and my warranty was up soon i decided to make the switch. i love the new 2021 especially the color and the improvements are great except the steering weight in D and Race which I really do not like. If you drive the cars back to back its a noticeable difference in steering. Lets see when my coilovers come and i set the car up the way I like it how it responds.

Well, starting in N mode seems like a logical move, considering that you would almost always begin your drive from some kind of parking space (garage, parking loot etc.) with no need for D or Race, so starting it slow and in N mode seam reasonable.

When I picked up my 2021, I was expecting the brakes to be horrible, and when they weren't, I was wondering what the big deal was that everyone was complaining about. I couldn't find any info if they re-tuned the system for the 2020 re-fresh, but you confirmed that the system has indeed been re-tuned to act better. Before I bought the 2021, I did test drive a used 2017, and when I launched in race mode, the tail definitely wagged. The 2021 does not do that. I also feel that the low end power seems slower when launching from a stop. Must be the fuel pump change that you mentioned. I wonder if that hampers the 3.9 0-60 time now. Since I never owned an older model, I can't comment on the steering. But, since this is my first performance car, the steering is certainty better than my other car, a lousy 300hp Acura. I'm really interested in what you're going to do with the exhaust. Are you thinking about going with the Akrapovic exhaust, or getting something custom made? There's a custom exhaust place near me in Trenton, NJ that will make any size, shape, and material exhaust. Thinking about getting a quote for a titanium exhaust with X-pipe.
@autofanaticcars3 жыл бұрын
the early brakes were horrible, lunging in traffic, irregular pedal feel and modulation it was very hard to get use to but with all the pad swaps i did it truly helped
@seankwilber2 жыл бұрын
Where are you getting that 3.9 second 0-60 figure from? Car&Driver was hitting 3.6 seconds in real world testing on a non-prepped surface in a 2022 QV.
@sergiomadureira99852 жыл бұрын
3:00 not just that, but they also inserted an aditional filter in the exhaught, again bc of regulations. You can tell on the upshifts it doesnt *burp* as much an its less noisy overall. Also there are reports they silently removed the CF roof as standard, now its an added extra. Another downside is that the newer models use a SGW fireweall, so u need to install a bridge to do any mods. But ofc the new model has an updated UI and console, plus most of the quality of life options in the original model are now standard. So its a give and take
@autofanaticcars2 жыл бұрын
the new cars all have carbon roofs but they are painted body color now. they deleted many options for 2021-2023 such as the carbon exterior package, yellow brake calipers, CCB brakes were gone in end of 2019, red interior accents etc this is for the North American market not sure about Europe and other countries.

@@autofanaticcars yes if only they changed the infotainment system on earlier models and this it, keep the raw feeling, quick steering, but add some sound insulation as you said it helps it sound much better! The brakes I find great on mine, but maybe it didn’t apply much to the CCB?

My Dec 20 build MY 21 QV still has the Ackerman effect when reversing the car while in left or right when the tyres are cold. It is winter here in New Zealand and we are getting 4/5C morning temperatures. My front door glass is also the thicker version that you have noted but I find my (first) QV still quite noisy in the cabin compared to other cars I drive. Alfa may have more work to do on sound proofing yet. My car is less than four months old and done more than 7,000 miles already. My car will be a high mileage unit because I recently retired and have the time to drive it on longer trips almost every week.

I just got my first ALFA the 2020 TiSport Q4 about a month ago. Unfortunately I picked this past Friday night to come down and the traffic was so bad I couldn't thoroughly enjoy the Pkwy, hopefully the return ride'll be better. The improvements are in the 2020 Ti Sport level car where they're applicable. I am starting to get used to the brake pedal actuation going by distance pressed like it's a potentiometer and not the feel of pressure. It still sometimes feels though like the car is trying to guess what I want and changes its reaction.

Does your new car have autonomous level 2 driving assist? Others have reported a difference in steering feel because of that change.
@autofanaticcars3 жыл бұрын
i never heard of this option before and its not shown on my window sticker can you elaborate more on this?
@kldiet3 жыл бұрын
It is a safety improvement a lot of cars are going to. Looks like Alfa is one step ahead of the curve. I worked for the company that makes the plastic film interlayer material that is used to make safety glass. It is called Saflex and is the film layer you feel at the top edge of the glass. Very interesting mfg process that takes 2 pieces of glass and laminates them together into one sandwiched piece. Glad they are finally using this in side windows. The Saflex sheet is like a heavy film that is opeic (milky color) until it is pressed and then it turns clear as glass. The blue or green color band at the top of your windshield is actually color die on the top edge of the plastic Saflex film, and is not on the glass as most people think.
@kldiet3 жыл бұрын
The autonomous level 2 driving assist is lane assist that keeps the car centered and has been noted to effect how the car steering feels. Started in 2020 I think. Your 2018 probably had level 1 that would do only autonomous braking (car separation) and emergency braking if engaged by cruse control.

New Alfas have sound boost coming from the speakers when you go into D mode. You can disable that by unplugging the mic under the hood, but they have this and the older ones didn't.

“…for fuel economy, that’s boring man, that’s not what I’m all about…” 3.58mm -> 4.52mm is 21% thicker glass (poop, less visceral sound). “It kind of takes the edge off the car, which I really don’t like”. - so the question remains, more refined or more visceral, keep the the red car or the black car?

wait til you see my next video on Saturday because this new trick i made on the red car made a HUGE difference up front. I am keeping it hush because I just backordered the parts to keep in stock and sell to other enthusiast with these cars.

drive it for 500+ miles you will notice the differences are substantial in the front end, i actually get drivers fatigue now with the 2021 after this weekend which i never got in the 18. they are trying too hard to make it into a BMW and Mercedes to gain new customers but it isn't going to work for this brand. Il be doing a video with both cars front ends this week to see what they actually changed visually up front.

Awesome review.. Great observations.. but I have to say.. I would be shocked if R mode in the '21 isn't faster on the track than the R mode in the '18... Alfa most likely tested the hell out of the steering for this latest version.. the heavier weighted feel is most likely purposeful for balance, etc.. Be interesting to see track comparisons in upcoming publications though.
@autofanaticcars3 жыл бұрын
i am going to report back that the 18 feels far better, sharper, lighter and more fun. the 2021 now feels too much like a Mercedes and BMW and almost slow and heavy as you push it and it is really from the front end changes and it really upsets me that they made these changes to such a special car. I am being optimistic that when I lower it and change over some more parts and alignment I can get the car to a happy medium. The earlier cars feel so different in a good way.

@@autofanaticcars Awesone review, I read in the Italian press they changed the Ackermann angle because customers were complaining about front tyres “skipping” when manoeuvring in parking lots. I have a 2019 QV and the steering is so amazing, it is intoxicating. So I am very hesitant to upgrade to the new one. I wonder if the GTA/GTAm is more similar to the “original” QV when it comes to the front end.

Benefits of the pre-2020 update: - louder exhaust - dynamic mode default on start up - carbon fiber/alacantara steering wheel Benefits of 2020 facelift: - better infotainment - better interior finishes - better soundproofing - slight external updates (blackened rear headlights, carbon fiber grill outline) Benefits of 2021 model: - two new colors Benefits of the 2022 model: - none Cons of 2022 model: - even quieter exhaust (EU regulations) - no more alacantara seats I faced this dilemma earlier this week when shopping for a Giulia QV. I chose a 2020 because it seemed like the sweet spot, but I do wish it started in dynamic and the exhaust was a bit louder as I remember the 2018 model being.
