Having sat on one yesterday the handlebar position felt very unnatural. They were wide but the angle was insufficient and the height was lower than expected. This made the reach feel quite long, and that's for someone with long arms. I had to lean forward a lot to get anything like a proper elbow bend.

I like the idea behind a middleweight twin that doesn't have super cheap brakes and suspension. But then they cheaped out by making it a parallel twin instead of a vtwin. The rearset design is unnecessarily complicated and I'm surprised it doesn't have heel guards. Look at how scuffed up the swingarm on the right side is already.

Hold on, in what universe is this a rival to MT07 and Ninja 650. There is more to a bike than its engine. Suspension, electronics, brakes, naked vs sport vs tourer... You cant compare it to an MT07 simply because of the engine similarities. The bikes you are comparing it to cost 4000 LESS. Completely different category. This costs roughly the same amount as a Street triple RS, KTM 890R, ZX6R 636... please compare it with some of these instead.
@ac.4ce4423 жыл бұрын
it'll get crushed then. It's a stunning bike but I wouldn't take it over any of the 3 you mentioned
@iamricardomarques3 жыл бұрын
Really? Can't you understand that this is a premium offer for the 650 class? In that class you don't get a quickshifter, cornering abs, power modes, cruise control, better suspension (except CBR650R), better brakes, etc... These things cost money my friend. The Street Triple RS doesn't even have a down quickshiter. The ZX6R 636 doesn't have a down quickshifter, a tft display, it's outdated and makes peak power way too high on the rev range (which is not ideal for the the street). You could only compare this to the 890 Duke R, and even there, you're comparing faired bike with a naked. If you can name a bike that packs all of the features the RS660 does, and does it for 4000$ less, you got a valid point there buddy. But until there, you just don't. 🤷🏻♂️
@Stratocasterhead513 жыл бұрын
@@iamricardomarques I understand it is a premium offer, i am not stupid. I also understand that it is far superior to a MT 07, SV 650... etc. However, the most important metric when comparing bikes is price. Anyone who has actually bought a bike knows this. And therefore these "classes" of bikes are grouped up into price brackets more than actual engine layout brackets: which is what they have done in this video unfortunately. If you add an up and downquickshifter, racing suspension, a beautiful tft display, riding modes, traction control, antiwheelie, cruise control to a starter bike (lets say the class of the ninja 400, R3, RC390) it ends up costing almost twice the price. Is it fair to then include them in the same class? Not really. The same logic applies to this comparo. The issue that I and i am sure a lot of other people have with this bike (having not ridden it yet of course) is that it is constantly placed between the classic middleweights (sv650, mt07) and high performance middleweights (duke 890R, Striple RS, Zx6r). However the price demands that it be compared to these bikes. When it comes to sport bikes (99% of the time) price is usually dictated by performance. This bike, on paper at least, has absolutely no where near the performance to justify its price.
@iamricardomarques3 жыл бұрын
@@Stratocasterhead51 I understand you, but keep in mind we are talking about an italian brand, which you are always going to pay a premium anyway, whether the bike is good or bad. But in this case, the price doesn't only reflect performance, because this is not a track focused bike. It also reflects on the features, which Aprilia did state it's what would sell this bike. Take a look at this video from a reviewer who went to Italy and talked to them about it. The statement is from 16:10 to 17:51. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6Gsep2NfMmBo5I
@Stratocasterhead513 жыл бұрын
@@iamricardomarques Meh, they say it themselves in the video: you pay the price for the electronics but the irony is that the electronics arent really necessary for the performance the bike offers. It is a sheep in wolf's clothing: gold suspension (which is the weak point of the bike), brembo brakes (not the range topping ones, just enough to get the brand on the bike), tft display... everything looks premium to attract buyers who want to LOOK like Rossi but dont want to actually track the bikes. Im sure they will sell many because it looks attractive and easy. But if im honest, swapping my zx6r for this would feel like a downgrade. And considering they cost the same, i wouldnt be able to bring myself to do it.

Morley, I had the chance to sit on an RS660 yesterday and what jumped out at me was how oddly unnatural the handlebar position was. They were wide but at a flat angle and still quite low. This made the reach feel long, and I have long arms! To me, the bars felt wrong for either street or track use. The RSV4 1100 Factory parked next to it had a very committed position that would work best on the track, and its ergos have a clear purpose. For me the 660 was neither fish nor fowl, and now I'm way less interested in this motorcycle! That was entirely unexpected.

Why not compare it against similarly priced bikes? Or, even ones that the same type of road-going buyer would consider? An XSR900 is just under 2k usd less, which leaves you with plenty of cash to spend on tuning and customization. A Z900 is over 2k usd less. You can even get the new MT09 SP for slightly less. Makes no sense for the cost-conscious buyer who looks at this category, especially for an unproven platform, with limited dealer support.
@lensoprezole53223 жыл бұрын
@Cerebral method : hi mate, you compare the RS 660 with japanese bikes but you really shouldn't. I understand you do that because of the price. But, MT-09 has the most horrible chassis of all sub 1000cc "sport naked bikes". The poor suspensions of the MT-09, the weight distribution, the body riding position and the very angry engine makes it an agressive wheelie machine with poor dynamic behaviour. Plus japanese bikes have got soft/mushy brakes when you need to do a strong braking while you're riding fast. Z900 is a better bike than the MT-09 but still not on the podium of the naked bikes category. The RS 660 has got powerful brakes (quality radial master cylinder and quality calipers), everything is more qualitative than on the japanese bikes. That's why it costs more. The riding experience is more pleasant with european bikes than japanese bikes. MT-09 and Z900 are really ugly but beauty is important. If your style of riding is just cruising slowly you can buy any bike, but if you want real quality go for european bikes. the very best in this category are the Triumph street triple R & RS, and the KTM 890 R. If you want something new, good looking and rare, then go for RS 660 if you don't mind riding leaning forward on your wrists.

Of course, it depends on what you're looking for. And, because of the higher price of the RS660, and the weak dealer support, and the new platform, I don't think a lot of riders who would consider one, will pull the trigger on it. The niche they created aims at girl riders and new riders (because of the looks, the lower power, and extensive safety features), so no one serious, for the most part.

Even if Aprilia made this RS660 a twin or even e 4 cylinder and asked only 99 dollars for it, still these reviewers would say how much better value MT07, SV650 and 890 Duke are. 😄 I bet RS660 would smoke them in both street riding and laptime. Suspension is not as good as competition? like mt07 and sv650? those have suspension from 1960s!!!

Amir, RS 660 smokes MT-07 and SV 650, but the 890 R is a real surprising little beast. Faster than street triple R & RS on track. And those 3 have 20 HP more than the RS660 for about the same weight. But who cares about times. If you want to smoke anyone on the road or track, just buy a streetfighter V4S or Panigale V4S. The little negative about the RS660 is the rear shock is directly mounted on the swingarm and that makes it little bit knocking instead of being progressive if it had a link. (sorry for my english, i don't know if you can understand what i mean).

@@lensoprezole5322 890 may be faster in a drag race, but it had a flawed chassis that would kill you if you push it hard. It's all about usable power and speed.

@@lensoprezole5322 they have an Ohlins rear shock in the accessories catalogue... most people up for the RS660 Trofeo will get that one; that would mitigate the 'little negative' quite well, I think

This video is a fine example of why videos need to be 60fps. All the panning shots look absolutely horrible.

For this price you could get a ktm 890 far better value

They have made it a 660 for various reasons! As in the rest of the world, where some countries have a limit and maximum allowance (engine displacement wise) of 660 cc. A very smart move as it opens it a much larger buyers market than the 0.05% (which is basically the USA). Very smart indeed! 👍😎
@marcusgeorge18253 жыл бұрын
The 890 is on a completely different category! I’d personally opt for it instead however like I said it’s in a different class for a reason!

@DR 650 I live in Melbourne so I’m well aware of the LAMS restrictions of 150 kw per tonne / 660 cc max configuration. Hence why Triumph made the 660 from the 675 and why Yamaha made the MT-07 655 instead of 689 cc. Unfortunately, as a result, the Torque is also reduced on the bigger LAMS bike compared to the non-restricted versions as well. It’s just simple maths. All of the 650 class, SV, Z, Ninga, MT, CB 650’s in LAMS form are all quoted at a reduced Torque amount compared to the full power version.
@marcusgeorge18253 жыл бұрын
@DR 650 Hp is a simple calculation which is made with the use of torque on the calculation. The LAMS bike are restricted by either a throttle stop and or the ECU.
@marcusgeorge18253 жыл бұрын
@DR 650 so what torque number are you referring too? As torque is also a derivative of power. I’m just curious about your “fact”?

@@lensoprezole5322 yeah I would rather buy the Triumph but not the KTM. I've never ridden a KTM, though. I've never been on an Aprilia, either... I do like the XSR900 but I think I'd go with the CB1000R.

@@genericallyaccepted CB1000R is nowhere near this bike, considering bike classes. Same with Street Triple, lmao. Totally different machines.
