To all those people debating if the Velar is the same size or not, it is not the same size. Furthermore, the Velar belongs to a different segment altogether. The Velar competes against the Porsche Macan, Mercedes GLC, GLC Coupe, Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 and X4 and to a very small extent the GLE Coupe and the BMW X6. In this case the Velar is right in the middle when it comes to size, with only the GLE Coupe and BMW X6 being larger. So no, they can't compare the Velar to the Q8 which is larger and also more expensive

Had Velar. Now Q8... Velar is better. Drives smoother,love air suspension. Softer seats. Long trips on Audi exhausting.. on Velar i would be driving 100mph without noticing how fast i am going. Audi two hand on steering wheel . Velar knee on the wheel you good.I feel like gas pedal is longer on audi or something. When you accelerating you hear it on Audi engine sounds nice, but its an effort. Velar drives up the slope like its not there. Audi looses speed. Just my observation, might be in my head.

Compare things that are comparable. You should try The Velar V6, 300 HP, 700 Newton, this will Make The difference. The only thing I hate on my Velar is the sport seat, I find it very inconfortable...but I am the only one in my entourage...only for this I deeply regret my previous Range Sport😭😭

Agree with everything that’s been said about comparing apples and pears. You evaluate a Q8 against a 3 litre RRSport not a Velar. A year ago I changed my Sport for a Q8. The Sport looks it’s age now, still pretty but not as sharp or head-turning as the Q8. In some ways I miss my RR. It’s an SUV whereas the Q8 is a big car but this makes it more agile and fun to drive. It’s ahead with tech (although the latest RR Pivy-pro system is a lot better than on my 7 year old car) and build quality is better than the latest Sport, which I tried out before buying the Q8. Might go back to a RR one day, when they have caught up.

@@akj2387 The sequel to my story is that I’ve gone back to a Sport. For the 18 months I had the Q8, it spent a total of nine weeks in the shop. It turned out to be a real problem car. I picked up a very late series 2 RRS, a showroom car, a cancelled order. I’m due to look at the series 3 but might just keep the one I’ve got. It has a lot of stuff on it that is also on the new one.

Q8 is not comparable to Velar dude.. u got wrong cars together. Q8 is a Q7 which is coupe style. U can compare a Q8 with range rover sport however u better compare a Q7 with range rover sport. There is no such equivalent of Q8 in land rover range. There are GLE coupe and X6 though in other brands

Surely you've played that game yourself, where you think: 'well, for £30k, I could get a nice NEW Golf GTi, but if I went used, I could get a 2015 C63 AMG instead'? Comparing the high spec of one against the low spec of a more 'prestige' marque is more than common place. I've already seen some websites/magazines making features of the incredible low price of the upcoming Corvette C8, asking 'what else can you get for $60k?', and then throwing in options like a 6 year old 911 Turbo or a 4 year old R8. But you don't even need to compare the Optima to the 5 Series, why not just keep it in the same marque? Poverty spec 2 litre 5-Series against a well specced 3 litre 3-Series? Bargain basement E-Class against a C-Class with every box ticked? Once we know what budget we have......... we can always make completely mad and irrational comparisons on where best for us to spend it! 😉

Just test drove both these cars. Drove the velar V6 340 and it was cheaper and more powerful than the audi Q8 which is a V6 standard. That would have been the better comparison. The range rover was the better drive too. I thought the rest of the review was pretty spot on, nice job. I also think the two are very comparable though many feel the velar in in a smaller class, they feel comparable in size to me. Velar is a sexier looking car by far and gets the nod from me and I already own an SQ5 and a Cayenne.

Did he say the Velar is cheaper to own over 3 years?! Hilarious considering we can’t keep LR’s out of the shop here in the US. Regardless, both are under warranty during that time period. We ended up with the Q8 and it’s sublime driving experience. I do prefer our GLC’s redundant (nice quality) button interface, but the Q8’s snappy processor and large screens makes the all touchscreen interface easy to live with. I like the available haptic feedback button like click sensation; my wife prefers the iPad quickness when the haptic is off. As noted, the Q8 is a bigger car than it appears on vids and pics. As a result, the back seat room is huge; right there with the new GLE; much bigger than an X5. The boot is plentiful. The car is long and wide as hell, so make sure it’ll fit in your garage. It dwarfs our GLC sitting next to it.

I asked to disagree with a touchscreen Audi Q8 I find it quite easy to use on the go as you get used to wear you need to press and the feedback you get gives you confirmation as for PCP deals if you look at Audi Q8 vorsprung compared to the velar you would need to add 20 grand with extras which does not reflect on your PCP deal

You will never find a perfect véhicule but the difference that really count is the ride, the quality and the maintenance sheet that comes with the véhicule. My only problem is that AUDI makes you pay the maintenance when you lease one of their vehicles. I understand why but they know that after 4 years the véhicule cost a fortune in maintenance. The RANGE ROVER is well just a name. They have the worst paint quality in the SUV market. You look at it and it scratches itself.

This isn't a review of the 2021 models. You concentrate on performance and handling way too much when these cars aren't about that at all. The first couple of minutes felt like you were explaining design to a five year old and when you were pointing to aspects of the Velar interior, a huge pointless graphic covers over what you're pointing at. That information could have been easily explained or presented without covering half the screen. It was, at least, informative, though.

My previous car was a Subaru XV and before that it was a BMW X3. my dad had two land rovers on different occasions, the first was a velar, this one never went without problems for more than 6 months when the warranty ran out he sold it and bought a bmw x3 (later I bought it from him) a few years later he bought one evoque that it gave less problems than velar but going to Spain broke a connecting rod, the car had less than 2 years of use with all the correct revisions carried out at the dealership. Based on family experience, I do not particularly recommend the brand, but the experience with the brand may have been wonderful for other people.

Audi's current angular design philosophy looks dated which, for me, is a deal breaker, this is particularly apparent in the Q8's cabin which looks extraordinarily tacky compared to the Velar's interior.

I deliver prestigious and high performance vehicles. I have to say that a VW Touareg with good spec is my choice of SUV if you consider overall bang for your buck. It rides far better than a Velar. The only über SUV I have driven is a Bentley, and at a risk of sounding crazy I honestly think that the VW is the most similar in terms of road manners and general feel. Trust me, VW have produced a real gem of a car that is going to be overlooked by so many people who can’t see past their badge snobbery.

My humble opinion tells me Volkswagen and Audi have been progressive in design for engine, cockpit and systems while Range Rover is going the Old Rover Motors way where they keep face-lifting but no change in propulsion, efficiency etc etc

@@Mcfckinkladze Having driven the Bentley on a few more occasions, as well as the VW. I stand by claim, although I never seem to get any real mileage under my belt with the BB, which is a real pity. The most notable aspect is the difference in response you get from the mode selection. It's really apparent in the higher end vehicles. Not surprising when you consider the huge step up in overcall cost.
