18 months ago I switched my 2014 Range Rover Sport for a Q8. The Audi spent 9 weeks of this time in the shop. In the end I lost patience with it and have just gone back to a 2022 Sport. Notwithstanding all the problems, the Q8 was a lovely car but going back to the RRSport was like coming home!

@@duval3d There were a couple of functional issues. Firstly, the 3 litre VW group diesel has a shocker of a turbo lag which apparently cannot be improved or eradicated and secondly, the emergency brake is aggressive and cannot be turned off (unlike on other premium SUVs). Every time I reversed down my (admittedly steep) drive it arrested the car with a sickening jolt because the system thought it wouldn’t cope with the camber. On a couple of other occasions it nearly caused an accident. And then there were issues with the service centre who were unable to properly connect up the trailer braking unit, twice set up the voice activation system for a left hand drive vehicle, refused to acknowledge a ‘notchy’ change from first to second gear, and refused to respond to my phone enquiries checking on their progress with these and other issues. The biggest issue though was the build quality, especially the multiple annoying creaks and rattles and in particular, one which came from the roof. Audi had three attempts to locate this and eventually tracked it down to a structural fault in the way the roof had been fitted with the Sun-roof. At this point I gave up. I have a three tonne boat and can’t afford to be using a tow vehicle that has, or may have had, structural problems. When I realised that I preferred driving my wife’s 12 year old Freelander to my Q8, it was time to change. My experience was unfortunate. I ended up with a lemon and a dealer who didn’t care. This doesn’t mean that Audi are bad cars but you can appreciate why I went back to RR. We are now on our fifth as a family and have never had any problems with any of them. Hope this helps.

Mat, please keep in mind that the boot lip is good, for when you park on a steep road and have omething slippery or rolling in the boot, you might loose it when you open the tailgate

I can confirm the gearbox they now use in the A6, A7 and Q8 is ridiculously hesitant, they use the same ZF 8 speed as BMW but it so slow to respond both setting off and dropping gears. It feels dangerous to pull out of busy junctions because it’s so slow to respond!

The thing with accelerating in the Q8 is not about the gearbox but about the engine having a single turbo, which produces a lot of turbo lag until it hits certain rpm, its actually a well known problem. In the 3.0 BiTDI audis this was solved and they are lovely to drive, but they cost hella more lul.

I never see the problem of a "load lip" in boots. I for one like having a slight lip there. It doesn't stop you sliding stuff in or out and the times I've opened a boot without a lip, and stuff rolls out and falls on the floor and you have to chase what's fallen out. i.e. Balls, tin cans et al. That doesn't happen with a lip there!!

On the IAA 2020 I had the opportunity to sit in both of this cars and planty of other Audis and range rovers. I simpy have to disagree with you, the general feeling of luxurity, when you sit in this cars is just better in the Audi, like he said it in the video.

Recently drove the new A6. That car had the same issue with the gearbox. Sometimes you wait literally 2 seconds until something is happening. Weird. Also I touched the massive gearbox lever with my knee during driving.

Yeah, that delay in the gear box when taking off, increasing speed etc. Is really annoying. I have that on my Skoda and I would never get a car with that again. It's dangerous not knowing when power will kick in when you need it.

You'll be surprised what the Q series of Audi can do off-road, once Range Rover was the go to off-road European veichle, but cars like the Touareg, Cayenne hell even the Alfa Stelvio are surprisingly capable off-road

Iv recently got a Audi Q7 and can’t complain at all tech and features in it blows me away. But I actually wanted a Range Rover but when it came to comparing em side by side it was the boot size in the Range Rover for me my kids pram filled the boot. Sure the Q8 is the better car but the range rovers just a classic beast!
