2021 Beta 500 RR-S Single Track Dual Sport Review, Kennedy Meadows OHV, Troy Meadow Campground

We embark on a 4 day journey up to Kennedy Meadows OHV area to try out and review the new 2021 Beta 500RR-S Dual sport. This truly is a dirt bike with a plate! We camped it Troy Meadow campground which is situated perfectly for the surrounding trail system.

Right on!! another great riding video. I'm taking my old mule of a carbed 2012 498 Beta up there this year. Just squeezing one more season or so out of it then going to try and get the 390 as my "retirement bike" . From past experience I know all I have to do is turn up the idle for the KM elevation. My over 330 hour/10k mile beast of a Beta is still ticking. The engines on the Beta's are like an anvil. I have boiled the gas during a Big Bear Run and it has never failed to start.

That part about bringing jets for the 2 stroke made me smile. I hardly ever go anywhere that I need to re-jet. Then I decided to see where Kennedy Meadows OHV, Troy Meadow Campground was......7,800 feet....yeh I hope he brought jets too, lol. Looks like a great place to ride even if you do have to re-jet.

It's kinda cool you can lug that bike along without it dying on you. I was leaning toward a 390, but they are pretty much sold out for the year up on Oregon, so I have the 500 rrs coming in the next couple weeks. With my 230lbs I'll probably better off with the 500's extra displacement anyway. Thanks for the video.

@@revarmstrong It's a fantastic bike, I did put the 13 tooth front sprocket on it as the 15 tooth was too tall for tight single tracks (it comes with both). The 390 and 500 have the exact same frame and the weight on both are pretty much the same, so its really more of being up to you to apply throttle control. ( I think I heard they put traction control on the 23's so it's less of an issue if you used traction control) Basically the 390 is better if you are not as an experienced rider on the 22, because you don't have that crazy power of the 500 so there is less chance you'll whiskey throttle. I'd buy a the same Beta again in a heart beat. The suspension can go from Cadillac to Brick, I started full stiff went to midway on the suspension and will probably tighten it up just a hair more for my riding style. The only gripe I could think of on it, is the turning radius could be better, totally fixable by moving the voltage regulator, which I have not done, and may or may not do.

Glad to share my experience with it, and if I didn't like it, I'd be the first to say to mention it and why. Zero issues on mine, and I don't think I've seen anything negative on the new versions. Beta seems to make improvements based on customer feedback every year from what I've read before buying mine. I'm near Pacific City Or.

Great vid and insight on the Beta. I'm just a few days away from buying a 22' 500RR-S. Apparently it's sitting on a boat somewhere off the Ca. coast. As soon as it gets to MotoXotica they're going to call. Very excited. I've got a Beta 300rr Race for the hardcore single-track but after watching your vid I'm sure the 500 could go anywhere the 2 stroker can go.

I’ll be taking the 300 next time. Has a bit more of that light flickable mountain bike feel to it for rocky single track like this. Excited to get back this year and try it out.

Haven't tracked mileage, but the license plate mod is a stock Beta 300rr subfender and beta license plate fraem. Mini led turn signals via Amazon..

I am stuck between the 430 and 500. Not sure what one to pick up.... leaning towards the 430 but dont want to have remorse over a $100 difference..... thoughts?

I’ve heard the 430 has more of that motocross 450 throttle response. If it truly feels faster down low I’d be interested. I’m just a sucker for displacement.. lol you won’t be disappointed with the 500 that I can guarantee

There were some light revisions but nothing drastically changed from 21 to 22. I'm going to get the suspension dialed in for my weight but other than that, it's a fantastic plated dirt bike right out of the box. What were your thoughts after riding?

@@TheOffRoadAdventureChannel Had a blast. I loved the lower end of the new 2T bikes, light, quick, agile. The 4T range was sweet, different experience, more tractor feeling, stable, heavy, better for street obviously. I am in Western Colorado so leaning towards a 4T to connect trails and get altitude, longer rides. My thought is to build a light adventure bike for weekend trips. Hard to remember the "ride feeling" of all of the 4T 2022 Betas, especially when we only had them on a dirt track.

I will say, I missed how smooth the power delivery is down low on a 2T on trails like these. But I'd only want the 2T if I were always going to be riding single track. The 500 is definitely suited better for a light weight ADV bike. If I had to choose one bike to do everything, and be street legal, I'd buy this bike again.

How much $$ have you invested in the beta after purchasing? Lol I saw tank , sprocket, rotor Gaurds ,seat and full fmf power bomb and 4.1 lol my bikes completely stock 21 beta 430rrs no mods at all only oil Changes

So 10 months later how do you like this bike? I have been dead set on a KTM/Husq but I always get googly eyed when I see a Beta. Also what is that yellow light flashing on that dash when you ride?

I like everything about the bike except the stock suspension. The stock suspension on my 22 Husky 300 is fantastic, so I’m guessing that would have been the case if I’d have bought the ktm or husky 500. I suppose it’s a wash since the beta is well over 1,000 less price wise. Otherwise it’s been great, and the motor is a monster!

Also, I was all set to get a KTM 500 in the spring. Then I was thinking maybe Beta 390, and now you've thrown Beta 500 into the mix. Jerk...

🤣🤣 I’ll try and keep that in mind for next time.. love me some peanut butter anything.. I’d give out of the box suspension to KTM. But when it comes to a pure dirt bike, that’s plated, Beta hands down. Beta does put out a truly beautiful bike too. Good luck 👍
