how would you compare rider position between the gs and rt? Are you more upright on the gs? thank you
@sbeck1522 жыл бұрын
@@jbin2756 The RT is ever so slightly more “sporty” than the GS. I had to fit bar risers to the RT to alleviate a little strain between my shoulders that became apparent on full day rides. Legs are also a little more tucked, but still very comfortable (and I’m fairly tall at 6ft 2in with 34in inside leg).

Hey Scott, welcome back! It's been a while. Loving the RT. I still have unfinished business with my 1250RS, which I love. The slightly canted forward riding position still suits me and I find the saddle all-day comfortable - have never experienced such a good standard seat on a motorcycle. My friend has a 2021 RT in the same blue - by far the best colour on offer from a typically poor selection from BMW IMO. Two things surprised me when riding with him: how good the bike looks without the boxes on, and how that thing can hustle in the twisties when called upon. I already know how good the 1250 motor is. I owned my last IL4 bike in 2010 - can't see me going back. Low down and mid-range shove is where it's at for me. I have short legs and a normal length back (yup, the build of a weasel 😂) so, when the time comes, an RT would be the way to go for me. My wife will appreciate the extra pillion comfort, no doubt, though she finds the RS good already. Looking forward to your ownership feedback on the RT once you've covered some miles. Oh, as mentioned by others: back-lit switchgear BMW - come on guys, no excuse for it from a premium brand with premium prices.

RT remains the finest all round motorcycle money can buy. There is nothing on the market that dances in the twisties and can lay down the miles it does. The fact that is comes with luggage and the best wind protection outside of a goldwing makes it the obvious choice. I’ve even taken mine off roads and with a set of knobbies I’m certain it could do what’s necessary. I will always have an RT in my garage

Great video as always! I currently (starting from this season) have both the RT 1250 and the GS 1250 (non-adventure). My wife just started riding with me (as I spend more and more days on the road every year) and I find RT to be much better suited for the 2-UP riding. On the GS I always feel the passenger (more suspension dive, braking is different) whilst on the RT I have to check from time to time if my wife is still on the bike (not kidding). Also, a big point for me when comparing the two bikes is that RT has a smaller diameter front wheel which makes the counter-steering easier, it feels more sporty.

I think this bike would suit about 90% of GS riders better than the GS! But I think the lifestyle and "street cred" of the GS is what draws them towards it. I can't pretend not to be affected too!

Perhaps the RT is for the adult on the road; the one less inclined to kowtow to "street cred" pressure(?).
@NothingToProve2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, why I chose the RT over the GS or GSA is because I looked at what I have done off-road for my whole life and the answer was 0% with my bikes. That's why I chose the RT, along with 10.25" TFT, more wind protection and comes with hard cases. I have been to two off-road parks in the last 3 years but then I just rent their bikes, then I'm not worried about crashing, when I go down I don't have to pay to fix my own bike and therefore I'm more relaxed and can actually learn how to ride off-road without any inhibition's. AND yes both times I went to the off-road parks, I went down more than once, well, the second time I went down once. take care, Scott

I know several long in the tooth riders who own and love their GSs. They don’t take them off road, never intended too and not why they bought them. The basic GS (not GSA) is a just a bike with a confident everyday, all day, cruise or carve riding position. I think it has a lot to do with the rider’s leg length too.

Well well well Sir, you are the proud owner of an RT! When I watched your vids on GPS functionality I swear I thought to myself - "he´s in love with the bike". Congrats! What a great bike (imho). I just got delivery of one, same colour. One test ride and I was smitten - having previously owned 3 GS (never used off-road) and an RS. Mine came with Brembo front brakes, which was a (good) surprise. Since you seem well connected with BMW, how about trying to replace the foot fairings with frame triangle covers from a GS/GSA and exposing those big jugs - I think it would improve the look of the bike significantly. Please keep the vids coming, especially if you do anything cool to the "Mother Ship".

LOL! And thank you! Yea, my wife said the same thing to after riding it, the dealer let me take it home for till I was ready to give it back while I was shooting the 2 videos of it last year, I guess he knew I'd end up with sooner or later :) Brembo or Hayes, it seems that BMW is having supply chain issues, like ever other OEM right now and they will put whatever part is there to keep the assembly line going. Both have been proven to be good calipers, so no worries there. BTW, one of my other subscribers called his RT an "Intergalactic Battle Cruiser". LOL! Excellent choice! I went from a 2014 GSA that I always felt was a little breezy and short geared to a K 1600 B that felt a little too top heavy. Now I have the 2021 RT and I think it’s the best choice for the type of riding that I have been doing. So far, I have been on two 5000 mile trips in the South West U.S. and it’s preformed great. In my opinion, it has the best wind protection of any bike that I have ridden. The gearing is taller than the GSA and makes for a much more relaxed ride. P.S. make sure the Active Cruise sensor is always clean or it will go into a fault code.

Very impressive, great looking bike. Many good rides with it. I did buy a new GS last year, finally departing from my beloved Roadster series( r850r. R1200R, R1250R). I do agree with you that the off-road aspect of owning a GS ( here in Berlin) is more illusion than reality. I only road off-road by an Enduro Training course. What did impress me was , how nimble the gs is to ride, actually more fun than my smaller roadster. Perhaps, i should have considered the RT, that being said, i wonder how many of us choose a bike because of weight or a somewhat cheaper price , after all, these are top of the line bikes and the people who buy them do so with all the extras. Good to see you back in the saddle. Greetings from Berlin,Jim

On the subject of farkles, my 1250RS came fully loaded. Not because I wanted every option but because the ones I did want came in optional 'packs' along with stuff I wasn't fussed about. This is my first 'high tech' motorcycle - my previous R1200S had only switchable ABS. As I avoid motorways like the plague I saw little use for cruise control. How wrong was I? I use it all the time for controlling speed in 30 and 40mph limit zones. I thought a QS and blipper would be a waste of time - actually adds to the enjoyment, especially when getting a move on. Automatic load-sensing preload adjustment - just another unnecessary frippery. Wrong. A boon when swapping from one-up Sunday afternoon blast mode, to luggaged-up touring mode, to two-up riding. Same for the ESA generally - Dynamic mode really tightens things up for spirited riding. Lastly, hill start assist. A handbrake on a motorcycle? Come on! Yet I've found it really useful.

Hi Scott, welcome back, great to see some videos from you again! At first glance I was a little surprised to see you on the heavy 280kg RT as in the past you said that you prefer the lighter bikes. I bought a fully equiped F900XR end of last year and really love it. yes, fuel tank could be a bit larger and rear break is a little squishy but there is to my opinion currently no other bike in the market (same prize/size) that can compete with that amount of features/specs that the XR has. I thought the central locking was a bit of a gimmick, until I had one on demo for the days, run round doing a bit of shopping and other errands, it was far more useful then I imagined. Haven't stretched to a new one yet though, still have the 2013 one. Unless there is the chance of ice or snow, often use it instead of the car. Use it for shopping and general running around, being able to leave crash helmet and gloves, even jacket in the panniers and top box give the freedom to wander round like I would if I'd taken a car.

Beautiful colour, great choice of bike. Would like to see another road trip with this bike just as you did with the old bike. Great video Scott as as always. Two thumbs up way up high.

I have a 2020 RT and a bit over 20,000 miles on it. Like the bike a lot. I use mine as a commuter vehicle. I have the bags and the top case and they are very handy for shopping trips unless you need a pick up truck for items you are buying. The cases offer secure storage for your gear when you get off the bike. Fuel economy is very good as is performance. The weather protection is great. With the easily removable cases all of them including the top trunk performing basic maintenance is relatively easy. The more I work on the bike the more I appreciate the engineering that goes into it. Things I think should be improved, larger grips, they appear to be sized to fit small girls, granted I have large hands, 2 to 3X gloves. Even with the wraps that one can get to put on the grips they are still a bit small. I will be buying a wider windshield not taller. With the windshield raised up I have plenty of height for weather protection but my shoulders catch a fair amount of wind. A set of adjustable wind defectors on the side would be great so in cold weather it could be diverted and in hot weather it could be directed to the rider. Over all I like this bike a lot and would buy another one just like it. The two bikes I had before this one were Goldwings and the mileage on the two of them was around 435,000 miles total. I am sure you will like the RT it is a great bike and has impressive performance, and comfort. The only drawback to riding on a bike with really great weather protection is after you have done it for a while you will not want anything else in the future. I know any bike I pick in the future will come with a big fairing and hard lockable cases, no others need apply.

I was amazed at how good my 1150rt is off road. I accidentally found myself going up a steep little stoney dirt track and it got up there no problem. That’s with almost no off-road experience. On gravel it’s a breeze. Great suspension.
