One of the best features of this car is the mini ‘tailgate’ in the trunk. When we were potty training, we kept a child potty in the trunk. Any time there was an emergency we could pull over and have her use the potty in the back with the tailgate up for privacy (2004 Range Rover). Tip: for easy cleanup we lined the bottom of the potty with a diaper, and could just roll it up and dispose of it right away.

FYI you can tilt the second down with car seats in outbound seats with the bench option. The teathers are placed differently on captains chairs vs bench. You can fit 3 across on the second row but can’t tilt with 3 across because the car seats slightly overlap and it won’t tilt.

My X7 comes with bench seat. It drives very nice. The air suspension is so much more comfortable than my Model Y. If you have two kids, the X7 will work just fine. If you are parent of 3 or more kids, look elsewhere.
@DevoteddreamerD3 жыл бұрын
I have spent a scary amount of time watching car reviews and this is by far my favourite. I am a parent of 3 kids and own a 2020 BMW X7 and agree with every single point you made. I totally feel like a badass driving it BUT.... when you have 3 or more kids, with 2 or more in car seats - and your kids are screaming, going nuts in the back, kicking your seat, knocking down the iPads, slinging arms at each other etc.... the "badass" feeling quickly goes away. We can't even do a small Costco run with the 3rd row up and for travel we had to buy the BMW Thule carrier to put on the racks. This vehicle doesn't quite cut it for larger families. I am hesitant to go to a larger SUV like a Navigator or Escalade but I wonder if ample space and overall the kids happiness aka parents keeping their sanity is more important than the amazing drive this gives you and "cool" factor.... hmm.... tough one.

I am the same! Watching 383373 trillion car videos. I'm a mom of 3 who are aging out of car seats. I've got a 2015 Escalade ESV and just do not see how anyone with 3 kids can drive a smaller vehicle. Plenty of trunk space, good ventilation in the back 2 rows, plenty of space for all 3 kids. I've had this vehicle since my twins were in the womb and I just love it. What I'd love to have is a "watermelon catcher". I look like Spider-Man when I open the trunk after a grocery haul. I've gotten to where I know how to pack it so nothing falls but you never know. 😅

YES! Such a great review that highlighted a major, major flaw of this vehicle. This was the car who was so highly rated, but by non-parents. This is a complete embarrassment of a 3rd row vehicle for people who actually need it (aka parents). The captains chairs provide no room to walk between even for kids, and the seats take 3 minutes to go forward and back...yeah, find me a 5 year old who is willing to do that. We ended up buying the Mercedes GLS450 with captains chairs and called it a day. It pains me because I loved driving the BMW, but it made no sense for parents to ever buy this vehicle.

The x7 second row bench seats can lift/ hinge forward (just not captain chairs). However the back hinges slightly forward first before tilting, , so I don’t know if that configuration is compatible with car seats (Atlas, Pathfinder, grand Cherokee L, etc). No one at dealerships has been helpful and it’s been hard to get an answer. If The_Car_Mom ever tests the GLS, it has the same hinge mechanism for accessing the third row, and I’d love to hear her thoughts on this! I really wanted an X7 (and could afford it) but opted for the Telluride. Nothing else in the class drives like it, but I didn’t think the practicality was there with little kids in car seats. The X7 second row didn’t seem as big as I would expect (I’m only 5’10), the 3rd row didn’t seem as roomy as others, plus trunk space behind it is too small (maybe fit 3 roll on suitcases?). If my parents are visiting, we can take a trip in the telluride and fit 5 roll-ons or some large double deck wheel bags behind the 3rd row. I wanted the x7 but the Telluride just made too much sense
