About time for me to buy a winch and I HAD TO come by the garage and see how you all did yours. The deadman switch (kill, cutoff switch) idea is brilliant. I am SO glad I watched this and will absolutely emulate what you two did. Absolute beast of an install, very professional job. I can wait to find the winch install video and watch it. I really appreciate the work you both do and the troubles you have saved me. If anything is going on my Bronco I am checking your channel as a resource first. Thanks again, hope you get to 3k subs soon.

I would recommend getting some rubber boots to go over the cable terminals at the back of the isolator switch. Currently, if you are in a LHF collision, the terminals may short out on the body. A hint to safely work on the positive terminal of a battery is to disconnect the battery negative terminal first. Even if your spanner contacts the positive terminal and the body, it won’t short out (unless you have an Auxiliary battery or Dual battery system).

Really nice clean installation. What size was the plate you used to mount the disconnect switch to? Any thoughts on doing something slightly smaller? Looks like the mounting plate has only a single bolt to mount it to the body....can you confirm? Do I assume correctly with your mount plate that you cut a rectangular opening to fit the but of the switch into......and drilled two holes to connect the switch to that?

is there any type of fuse on the positive side of the winch connection?
@1Five1Garage9 ай бұрын
No fuse is required for the winch. per warn and other winch companies. I installed the disconnect for when its not in use

Clean install. Appreciate trying to make it look factory and doing some extras with the sleeving. Aesthetics aside the sleeve can help prevent rubbing and arcing later on as you know. One question….why did you only run a 100 amp switch? I have an Evo 12s I need to wire and Warn says it pulls up to 400 amps or so. I would have thought you would want a 500 amp solution or close to it. Not an electrician and trying to learn and this struck me as odd.
@cbennett19713 жыл бұрын
Could it be wired to the upfitter switches instead?
@1Five1Garage3 жыл бұрын
You would have to look at the amperage. The power cable is 4 gauge. i would think a little to much for the upfitter switches.
@thepavementendsnow19013 жыл бұрын
If not an up-fitter switch, I would much prefer a more convenient location, I don’t like the idea of raising the hood to winch, fill tires, etc.

The whole idea of a hidden switch is to be hidden. Right?
@thepavementendsnow19013 жыл бұрын
@@1Five1Garage interesting, why do you feel a need to hide something that requires a key to activate?

Why not just use a regular cutoff switch so you dont run the risk of losing the cutoff?

Because I prefer this set up. I have used something similar in the past on other vehicles.

@@1Five1Garage Gotcha.. Just curious if there was a downside of a standard "twist" type switch.. Just personal preference I guess.

The bumper looks like it has a spot underneath for a hidden winch mount. Is there a reason that you decided against mounting it below the bumper? Also is it true that you are planning on doing a LT6 swap and pulling the 4 Banger out?!? ;)
@1Five1Garage3 жыл бұрын
I wanted to keep it away from any obstacles. Including out of the elements. Under the hood is always the best place. Coyote motor maybe? lol

@@1Five1Garage cool, so there is room underneath for a winch mount, that's nice that you have either option. Plus you still get to pimp that WARN sticker. ;) Lately, where I am at, people have grown fond of stealing shit. The less obvious the better, plus I still have to hide the shame of HF (under a Rough Country hidden winch mount no less). Which is more shameful Rough Country or Harbor Freight??? LMFAO

Warn label future bedazzling on later video. I HATE going into HF... I see way too much that I can use... like going into Walmart for bread and coming out with $300 plus worth of crap.... and the bread if right next to the entrance....

In order to run the winch without the remote, you would have Jill place her tongue across the correct terminals until the winch starts moving, at that point, it will keep winch until the arcing stops or Jill removes her tongue from the appropriate terminals!!! :) This is best done while high on acid.
