Yeah, I'm not sure how Tesla is considered behind this... There's some nice things about this, but even his comment at @3:30 seems to highlight the limitations being an issue and it not being clear enough to the driver. From what I could find, it seems that the features needed for this will add up to $6,150 and then you'll need a $300-$540/yr sub to OnStar. (But you get the first 3 years for free possibly.) I suppose that's competitive pricing, but I wonder if you have to go to the dealership if they add more "mapped" roads and what that costs to upgrade... I wonder how it performs when there's road work or other less predictable situations. I'm also disappointed that it doesn't actually do any lane changes. It's awesome that these systems are getting so good, but it's very strange that Consumer Reports would rate this so high since it's clearly less feature-rich.

@@johnvincent8730 people have been posting full length trips using the FSD beta recently, look it up. Its amazing to see. We are truly less than a year from tesla having the capability to do full self driving with less accidents per mile than human drivers. Gm won't have such rapid development of their systems as tesla has. Given that tesla owners are more selfless people than gm owners, and will provide data even at the risk crashing their car. Additionally even if the roads were mapped on old tesla vids, they weren't mapped with lidar scanners, considering tesla argues against their use. The only way a road is pre mapped is by having other tesla's drive down it and record what their 8 cameras and radar sensors see about the road, which of course, will probably be at least 80% as accurate as laser scanning. Lidar can't see color or texture, and it's probably higher latency than using a regular camera which record the same type of information, light. Teslas are all connected and continuously 'map' every surface they drive over. Lidar scanning is redundant and realistically, it's unnecessary.

Does Super Cruise interface with a planned GPS route? Yes, it needs to be on mapped highways, but there are many highways that split and are not really intersections. Stay in the left lane to merge onto I-95 or stay in the right lane to merge onto I-495, for example. Does Super Cruise handle these transitions? Also, what about EZ-Pass? Consumer Reports should add a category for advertising spending. That would be more honest (Tesla doesn't buy advertising). Regarding who's closest to FSD: 1. Tesla got highest score for raw capability, of the five categiries, this is the only score on the test relevant to proximity to FSD. Driver interaction, while important for safety prior to FSD, is not relevant to reaching FSD. 2.GM Supercruise is limited geographically to a limied number of specific premapped freeways (a limitation as consequence of using LIDAR). Tesla Autopilot works on all freeways and city streets, as will FSD.

First of all “Escalade” is the model, Cadillac is the brand. The SC system here in the brand’s flagship SUV is actually better than the system in the Cadillac CT6. The Escalade always gets the new tech first before any other model because of it’s price range and the fact it’s the flagship. Secondly, Super Cruise is literally the best handsfree semi-autonomous driving technology currently available in the U.S. and Canada. BMW is now following Cadillac’s lead with the same philosophy in semi-autonomous driving technology. The new BMW X7 now offers a similar system to SC, but it isn’t quiet as polished as this. It has very little to do with GM needing to “do better” and more to do with laws, regulations, and the fact that Americans aren’t ready for autonomous driving in the city which can be much more dangerous. Americans are just beginning to trust these systems on the Highway. Do some research then comment.

@@aytchroberts5850 Safety records? Now _that’s_ where things get very interesting. No, i have not personally experienced Tesla’s beta FSD but that’s just an expensive extension of AutoPilot, a system already proven to be potentially fatal. I don’t care how much more Tesla’s FSD system can physically do, it still isn’t a level 5 fully autonomous system and it surely isn’t one that I’d trust with either my life nor the life of anyone I care about. They simply haven’t done enough to ensure the system is safe IMO. “Beta” meaning anyone brave enough to use this system right now are *literally* lab rats. My thing is SAFETY should be the first priority, and _then_ convenience when we’re talking about lives. Cadillac goes about achieving the same goal of autonomous driving differently than Tesla and I think the main differentiating factor is GM’s priority of safety over capability. I’d hope FSD is an improvement over regular AP and I’m sure it is to some degree, but it’s Elon’s priorities that scare me. Cadillac’s SC system requires compatible roadways, clearly visible lane markings, Forward Collision System to be active, and will only engage if the Driver Attention Camera detects the operator is paying attention to the road ahead of them. If just 1 of these requirements aren’t met the system will NOT engage. If GM’s Teen Driver mode is enabled, ACC will remain available but the Super Cruise system will NOT engage. Consumer Reports ranked Tesla’s AutoPilot first in a “Capabilities & Performance” sub-category, but called it a “distant second” behind Cadillac’s Super Cruise in 2020. Maybe it has something to do with Tesla’s system being linked to multiple deaths, while Cadillac’s Super Cruise is living up to GM’s vision of zero emissions, zero congestion, and *zero crashes.* Super Cruise taking credit for the latter with a spotless record since it’s debut.

I've used the tesla system, and it is not all that nice. Supercruise completely dominated. Sorry Tesla/Elon fanboys, The Cadillac system is vastly superior to Tesla's.

Until FSD is a thing and legal all of these driver assistance systems are pointless.
