A quick n dirty overview of how I installed an amp and 2 12" subs in my 2021 F150 XLT. This particular truck is the 12" Sync 4 system with the base 7-speaker setup. Not sure what's different on the different entertainment configurations. Anyways, there was pretty much no info on these trucks since they're so new, so now that I've figured it all out as I went along I figured I'd share in case it can help anyone else!
Links to all the products shown in this video!
Pioneer 12" shallow-mount subwoofer: amzn.to/3a5aucv
Subwoofer speaker terminals: amzn.to/3wqPtSS
4 legs used for subwoofer box: amzn.to/3uqb2kK
Wire tap connectors for line-output converter: amzn.to/31RaB6O
Scosche line output converter: amzn.to/31OqeMg
Amp installation kit: amzn.to/3uruiOL
Pioneer amp: amzn.to/3rVy3KD
Good luck with your installations and may your bass hit hard!

Thanks for doing this video! I just bought a 2021 and am thinking about installing an amp and subs. I had a 2018 but never had the time. Funny enough, I think I have the same Pioneer amp. What my plan is have one box for under the seat and one box for all out fun lol. 10's during the week and 15's on the weekend. :-)

Good job making this video, I also used the Scosche line output converter. Had it for about a week now, working good so far. Ordered from Amazon but ended up getting an open item, returned it and got one from WalMart. I don't like using the front speakers for my sub output, so I found a speaker wiring diagram for my 2021 Supercrew F150 and hooked them up to the rear speakers instead. Sounds great, I got a 1600W amp with 2 dual coil 8" subwoofers.

@@drewzx3 Nope, stock wiring, stock harness, the KS Kicker has the correct adapters in the box and the mounting kit lines right up. I did add dynomat to the doors when i installed the speakers to get rid of a rattle i had, but otherwise, directly installed, no amp.. lows were way more present, and highs were much clearer.. i had the B&O in my old truck, the speakers imo sound better than the B&O did.. and were way cheaper.. If you want to add bass though, the 2015-2023 B&O subwoofer will fit any 2015-2023 super crew 150, just find one at a salvage yard.. then install it.. the wiring harness is installed on all of the 150's with or without the B&O, you'll need the dealer to activate it in the infotainment system, they charged be 75.00 to activate it.. but honestly, the kickers are a night and day difference alone.

You can tap into a fuse in your fuse box location that allows for the amplifier to turn on when you turn the vehicle on and it goes off when you turn the vehicle off. This is definitely a great way to setup your system. You won't have an issue with the waybyoubhave it hooked up, but using a fuse that works with ignition on/off just helps ease the mind.

I've done the wood trick in the past, and it's worked nicely. This time around though I just poked holes through the carpet and just zip tied the amp right to the carpet, no wood this time. It's been there coming up on 3 years now and has been totally fine and plenty secure.

@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 2 жыл бұрын
The line output converter that I chose provides the turn on and off signal for the amplifier. If the unit is receiving power and a speaker signal, it will provide the signal for the amp to be on, if the unit's not receiving power or a speaker signal then it will stop providing the 12v signal.

GREAT VIDEO. HELL YEAH!!!! Couple questions or question i should say.... Soo I've installed a few of my vehicles with the line out converter and have never had a problem. I just got a 2023 f150 xlt or sport whatever you want to call it... I don't have a B&O system. On previous vehicles, it's always left me to remove the door panel and tapping into the speaker wire. There are so many different packages/Trim models but I'm assuming it's the same. ( hopefully) Is it safe to say from anyone in the comments or the gentleman in this video that I can go the same route on my model F-150? If I can enter the speaker wiring right at the factory radio or behind it, that's going to be awesome. I would assume for the 2023 model The wire diagram/colors for the speaker wire would be the same as presented in this video? Also where did you tap your remote wire into. I'd assume a fuse Givin whete you showed the wire. Maybe I missed you saying it. Apologize if so. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 10 ай бұрын
Hey man, I can't say for sure that the wiring will be the exact same, but I would imagine so. Regarding the remote wire, the LOC that I used has a remote wire out to the amp - if the LOC is getting power it sends a signal down the remote wire. If it's not the remote wire gets no signal and the amp will shut off. Not sure how common that is on LOCs in general but the one I used does that. Hope that helps, good luck setting up a kickin system.

Thanks! Yeah at some point I probably will. I upgraded the speakers in my 2017 and while it definitely improved the sound, it wasn't super drastic. The speakers in these aren't the total garbage that you get in something like a Kia or a Toyota or something. I was surprised at the size of the magnet, quality of the cone and surround etc. on my last truck's stock speakers. But yeah at some point I probably will.

Great video. I just did this install yesterday on my 2023. For some reason I am not getting any audio from my subwoofers even though I’m getting power to the line out converter and amplifier. Did you have to do anything to the factory head unit/Settings to get it to work?
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 6 ай бұрын
Dang, sorry to hear that man. I didn't have to tweak any settings. The install should just mirror the audio from your front (or rear as some people choose) speakers to your sub. If your LOC and amp are both powered on I would check that the speaker signal is good from the head unit to the LOC - check all connections or taps to make sure it's all the right wires and connected properly. I believe there's a way to check that tapped wires are connected properly by playing a test tone and checking for voltage with a multimeter, although I've never done that. If that's all good double check that the RCA from the LOC to the amp is good. If that's all good then you double check the speaker connection from your amp to your subs - make sure everything is wired for the resistance of your subs, etc. Good luck dude, hope you're bumpin soon.
@JayRSwan
@JayRSwan 8 ай бұрын
Were you able to check if the front left and right are full-frequency channels? Mine came with the factory sub, and I used it for the LOC. The problem I'm having is that it actually cuts the lows after about 9 on the volume and after about 14 on the volume it also reduces the voltage output. I assume to protect the crappy factory sub.
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 8 ай бұрын
On mine it appears to be, but I don't have the factory sub, so I'm not sure if they cut the frequency on the other sound packages.

Are the red connectors you used just a wire splice connector? Also, does anyone have the rear speaker color/diagram? Thanks for the video!
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 2 жыл бұрын
Whether you tap into the front or rear speakers is usually personal preference. I chose the fronts as I believe the rears are used for the backup sensor sound and I didn't want that going to the subs. But honestly either work. Yes, the red connectors are wire splice connectors. Just close them around the wire that you're tapping into then connect the new wire into the side. Colors for the rear speakers are LR+ White & green, LR- Brown & Yellow. RR+ Brown & White, RR- Brown and blue

The power cable was 17 feet and barely reached, since the battery's on the other side of the engine bay. If there's an easy way to get through the firewall on the passenger side you could do it with less cable. Not completely sure to be honest with you. On my last truck, a 2017, the door speakers were indeed 4 ohm, so I would be surprised if the impedance was different on these newer trucks. I've heard of guys putting higher impedance speakers in their trucks supposedly with success, although if it were me I think I would keep it the same.
@Signatureofheaven
@Signatureofheaven 3 ай бұрын
I would add 2 ohm Infinity Kappa speakers if I am going to use an aftermarket amplifier to run them. Food for thought, any time you replace a certain ohm speaker, use the same ohm load speaker unless you're using an aftermarket amplifier, this will help avoid ohm load issues and causing your factory headunit from overheating or being overpowered and causing issues.

There's a couple threads that I've seen on F150Forums where people share what they did for their B&O systems, but I don't know the whole process off the top of my head. So maybe check there? I replaced the stock B&O sub with 2 x 12” down fire under the rear seat. I used the high level wires from the B&O sub to feed the high level input on my amp. The Kenwood amp I’m using has input sense so it turns on when the factory head unit turns on. If your truck doesn’t have a factory sub the wire harness is hidden back behind the carpet behind the rear drivers side seat. It just needs to be turned on with forscan.

Did you replace door speakers? If so, which ones? If not, how is the total sound with subs and stock speakers? I'm trying to get a quote, and don't know if I want to replace all door speakers plus a 10"
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't replaced them yet but I will eventually. The Ford stock speakers are actually better than any other stock speaker I've every pulled out of a vehicle. They aren't great, but they aren't anything like what I hear in Hyundais and Hondas. So it sounds pretty decent with just some extra thump. I actually think that some decent tweeters will be my next move, and speakers last if I still feel there's going to be enough of a benefit.

As in permanently modify the seat? Nope. With the dimensions that I made my box (which are in the video) the box fits perfectly underneath the seat at the stock height. Seems ridiculous to me that a company would rather modify the seat than the box

How did you wire it up? You shouldn't have any issue with it remote starting. May be a wire you tapped into that is causing it not to remote start.

@CameronKelson

If I remember correctly what I did was adjust the steering wheel up all the way, and that created enough of a gap for me to get my hand in between the steering wheel column and the surrounding trim, and I was able to reach up and fish for the wires with my hand. It was still a tight fit though, might be easier to try and take the trim off around the wheel...

Hey need some advice. I have a 2021 f-150 xlt same as yours basically. Did everything in this video and listed on the forum got everything connected using the exact same line converter. However my amp isn’t turning on as it should with the remote wire. It won’t turn on at all unless I physically hold the remote wire to the power prong and remote prong on my amp. And obviously it shuts off when it’s not being touched on both ends. I’ve checked my splicers and everything is connected. I can’t figure it out haha any advice would be appreciated.

Great video, mine is an XL so I don't have the speaker in the dash. Did you just connect to the left and right fronts for input? I am looking at doing this, but thinking about picking up the rear speakers for inputs since they are located in the B pillars, closer to the rear. I assume the downfall of either way is losing the subs if faded to the other speakers.
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 2 жыл бұрын
I did connect to the fronts. The reason I didn't do the rears is because I have the backup sensors that beep through the rear speakers. But honestly I think either will work fine. Good luck with your install!

@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 2 жыл бұрын
@@ratpack2927 It depends on how much bass you've got but even with my 2 twelves I think they do pretty good. Way better than most of the stock speakers I come across. But I also don't blast my music full volume either. Still I listen pretty loud sometimes. In my last truck (a 2017 F150) I replaced the speakers with some expensive 3-ways and while there was a definite difference in the clarity of the highs it wasn't as huge as I had hoped for the money, so for now I'm just kind of leaving the stock speakers. Personal opinion is that unless you're a major audiophile the stocks do just fine.

Isn't it bad to run the RCAs on the same side as the power wire? Or is that not a big deal
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 3 жыл бұрын
The common belief is that it is bad to run them on the same side since it creates the possibility of introducing noise through the RCAs. But I've done it both ways - run it on the same side and on opposite sides and never heard any discernible difference. The quality of the RCA cables supposedly makes a difference too, with certain cable types being better and having more shielding against noise. Ultimately my desire to have a easy and quick install trumps my desire to possibly have less noise that might make a difference so small I probably couldn't tell anyways... 🤷‍♂️

Can I tap the center speaker you take out to get a sub input with line level converter? Just looking for sub input...
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 3 жыл бұрын
You could try, but I don't think I would do it. Sometimes the factory amps send modified signals to smaller speakers/tweeters like that, so you don't get the full frequency range that you'd get with the signal to the full-size speakers. But I could be wrong here, so if you do it and it works let me know, that certainly would be easier than tapping into the two front speakers.

@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 3 жыл бұрын
My amp does have a power light and it does turn off. It's not immediate though, it takes a couple minutes after shutting the truck off. As long as the LOC is correctly tapped to both the speaker wires and a 12v it should turn off after not too long. Best of luck!

My issue seems to be some sort of block? I had speaker/amp installed at a shop, sounded great but didn’t work a few hours later, it came back on this morning and then went off again. They said something about a block in the radio that shuts off the left side and amp. Heard of this? Any fix?

No, it's a little bit different for an '18. It's just a little more involved on those year trucks. I did it on my 17 and it wasn't too bad but it was more to take out of the dash than this truck. And yeah, you're probably going to want to use a converter. Some amps do allow for high-level inputs (so straight from the speakers) so technically you could extend wires from the speakers to your amp, but that gets a little complex and I've always found it easier to just use a converter unless you're working with like speakers in the back deck of a sedan that you can access from the trunk...

Does downfiring the subs make a difference
@CameronKelson
@CameronKelson 2 жыл бұрын
Not in my opinion in terms of sound, at least with a sealed box like I have. But I prefer to downfire them as I have a rigid floor that I can create space for the subs to move, whereas if I fired them up they would be facing the underside of the seat which is tougher to create a level even space for the movement of the subs.
