Great video. Thanks. While I like the Mach E a lot I worry about the charging network. I have yet to see a road trip video using Electrify America that was hassle free. Either the Ford pass app or the VW app didn’t work or the “pump” didn’t work at all and the user had to keep switching to another pump or call tech support. I have yet to see a road trip video with the supercharger network that didn’t go nearly seamlessly. At this point, IMO, Tesla still has the edge. If Ford, VW, Audi, Jaguar, Volvo, Hyundai, GM, Polestar, Rivian and all the others want to get the masses out of ICE cars they really need to get the kinks worked out of the charging network.

With Tesla fanboys carping from one side and Mustang fanboys complaining from the other the Mach-E has a tough row to hoe on the internet. On the other hand a massive network of dealers for maintenance and repair and (so far at least) no widespread complaints about fit/finish issues Ford appears to have some distinct advantages over Tesla. And as far as the Mustang moniker is concerned, I'm reminded of the uproar among the Porsche faithful when the company first introduced an SUV and there were questions about whether owners would be admitted to the Porsche Owners' club in America. No matter. Ford has done more than stick their toe in the electrification water. The various Mach-E models cover a wide range of driver priorities from those looking for a daily commuter vehicle to a full-on performance vehicle. The hallowed Mustang name is appropriate for a 21st century version of an appealing "sporty" car. The same traits the original Mustang presented more than half a century ago. Tesla, like Sony when they introduced the "Betamax", deserves credit as a pioneer. But just as video recording became commonplace with VHS, Ford's entry in the EV marketplace (along with that of the Korean brands) signals an inflection point in market acceptance.

Think about it for a sec, the average person in America makes less than 40k yearly and mortgage are about 18hundred a month not to mention real food prices. "Nobody will argue that Tesla doesn't have an amazing network in place" - Tesla has the largest charging network on earth 20,000+ superchargers in the US and is use exclusive to their models. Any brand electric car including Tesla can charge at "Electrify America" locations which is a Volkswagen owned conglomerate of small competitors they ate that typically run slow charge rates at higher cost per watt. The reason for this is Tesla planned for these infrastructure demands and openly stated the cost of their network would be subsidized into the car price as it is in house, where as no other car company has their own network to fund and utilize. So nation wide tesla has over 47,300 charging stations all told, and you cite 13,000 as being an improvement, got it.

Is it really possible that 200 miles will not get you to and from work on a typical work day? I own 6 different cars. All vastly different from the other. From a Honda Accord to an F250. The AVERAGE full tank range is about 275 miles per tank. I don't drive my cars till the low fuel light comes on, but I don't top it off every day before arriving at home. Point being, my cars average fuel level. Is about half tank. So...... Effective range being. About 150 miles remaining range in my fuel tank of my ICE car. And no range anxiety here. I drove the Mach E 1st edition yesterday (dual motor and long range). Essentially I would best describe it as a 4 door 4cyl Mustang. The car looks nice, but it is a hatchback CAR, not an SUV so do not compare it to a Model Y, only a Model 3. There is NO tow hitch and no roof rails offered, so it is not a Model Y competitor. Also, compared to a model Y, it has less storage capacity. As for driving, it is nice, but the suspension is softer than Tesla and the steering is slower and less responsive than Tesla. Changing the driving profiles seemed to do nothing. The motors are quick and responsive, visibility good, seats more comfortable than Tesla, fit and finish excellent. Getting out of the back seats is difficult due to the rear wheel well narrowing the opening. Another big thing is apparently Ford includes a NEMA 14-50 plug, but the amperage is fix, not programmable like a Tesla. So its all or nothing on this circuit and I don't think there is a NEMA 14-30 electric dryer adapter which is common for a dryer. Having the small dash display in front of the driver is better than nothing from Tesla. So if you need utility, go Tesla, if you want the best driving, go Tesla, if you want a Mustang fastback car and a dashboard go Mach E.
@RonB20043 жыл бұрын
You forgot one. If you want better quality go with the Ford Mach E. Tesla does great with the tech, but there are so many reports about bad paint jobs, parts falling off and others that show poor Tesla quality. I have the First Edition Premium AWD version and it is well put together. Even a friend of mine who has a Tesla Model 3 started the same things.
@AMan-he9sz3 жыл бұрын
The amperage IS adjustable. I would describe a Tesla as a panel gap, rattle trap piece of overpriced garbage. But you're right - it's not a Model Y competitor because the Model Y can't compete with the Ford. The steering in a Tesla is like a toy car - twitchy. The ride in a Tesla is as if there is no suspension. And it's better than a Model 3 for all the same reasons, but with more utility.
@AMan-he9sz3 жыл бұрын
@@chadical3151 Oh sure - I give Tesla cred for bringing EVs into the mainstream, and for showing the world that EVs CAN be superior to ICE cars in so many ways. But the cheap interiors, panel gaps, rattles, and myriad other problems described and depicted in 100s of videos and written reviews about Tesla products speak for themselves. Now that Ford and others have gotten a bit more serious about building Evs, they will easily crush Tesla in the coming years. The only revelation to driving a Model 3 is the revelation that Tesla cheaped out everything about this car except the drive train and the charging network. For example, it's the reason there is no display in front of the driver. The interior isn't minimalist, that's the Ford's interior. The Tesla's interior is just a cheap sea of poorly fitting plastic. Ok, maybe they slap a piece of wood in the middle of it. It's really terrible. I never wanted any of the carnival barker's cars (Elon Musk) and thank GOD some serious EVs are now being built by other brands.

Yah...I know...the old Maverick was marketed as an economy car and the new Maverick is a midi-truck?, but this is 2021 and one could squint and say this EV could've instead be called the modern 2021 version of the 302ci Maverick GT of yesteryear...thus Maverick E since Ford decided to throw the Maverick name around on a proposed truck anyway...they should've put Maverick on this EV instead. Yes the Mach E looks cool and all, but its not as cool as a Mustang. Kids with no respect for automotive legacy or sense of history must've been in charge of naming this EV. Also...that HUGEMONGUS center screen looks like another potential way to slice and dice you in a high-g wreck. All imho, of course.

I'm happy to see FORD stepping up and providing another option in the market. I like the display with analog wheel, back of car and guessing panel build is better than Tesla. That being said, I'd still get Tesla due to sig better performance and range for price along with autonomous which future proofs the car. At this point, getting this car would be like getting a new 4G LTE phone, it's nice but doesn't have much of a future.

Ford is about to release their self driving software, so no point for Tesla here. Real people (not gear heads or children) don't give a damn about 0-60 times. No one is drag racing this SUV. Tesla lies big time about their ranges, so what's your point?

Drove MY and Mach-E before buying. Ford was quieter, nicer built, less brittle, and a bit more playful driving but markedly worse in every other category. Interior space, charging network, infotainment, connectivity, and driver assistance feel fully next gen in the Tesla. Also the Ford's playful dynamics don't mean anything when the car weighs 5000 lbs.

211 Miles depends on the weather/temperature , the weight of the car, and the elevation. Most Mach-E owners get this estimate from 100% charge and end up driving almost 300 miles in one charge. Check out the forums. If the range indicator didn’t have estimations the range would probably be almost 290 miles.
@hermanwooster89443 жыл бұрын
@@rhydynamic8306 That's true. I think it also depends on the extended battery. This vehicle was rated for 211 miles since it has the standard battery and AWD. A RWD with an extended range battery would be rated for 300 miles.
@AMan-he9sz3 жыл бұрын
Because you drive over 200 miles per day? Charge at home, and you need never charge away from home unless you're on a long trip. A Mach E owner has already posted a vid about his coast to coast drive using the Electrify America charging network, with great success and no problems.
@hermanwooster89443 жыл бұрын
@@AMan-he9sz The video shows the reviewer only had 136 miles of estimated range due to the way he drove. Range can also be reduced in colder weather and over time with battery degradation. That means real world figures could eventually put the vehicle under 100 miles of range. Not long enough for anything than a city car.

@@AMan-he9sz Right, but are there always going to be available chargers that you can just pull off and use every 200 miles? Definitely not if you plan on taking any kind of rural road trip. You ordered a vehicle without checking which features it came with in the trim you selected and claim it’s junk because you didn’t pay attention?
