The sound from outside in the intro is pretty nice. Good mini-rant at the end. Nothing else will be good enough having used the Supercharger network extensively in Europe in 2019, you are right. Manufacturers should get together and bury their differences and allow plug and walk-away charging on any network charger. 90% of failed charge attempts on public charging is problems with the payment system is my impression.

@@simonhenry7867 no, Simon, they are not any greener than an internal combustion engined car. You have been hoodwinked and cuckolded into believing that they are. How and where do they get all that lithium? Don't get me wrong, I like electric cars and I own a hybrid. But I am not a hypocritical environmental nutcase like most of it people watching this video.
@charlesbridgford2543 жыл бұрын
@@TheHomeExpert5 I find that hard to believe when EVs emit a fraction of what an equivalent ICE car emits, even taking account of grid production and transmission. The Lithium mining propaganda is also tiring. Where does oil come from? Environmental destruction from oil extraction? Never mind that, keep buying oil because reusable lithium must be worse.
@simonhenry78673 жыл бұрын
@@TheHomeExpert5 first let's look at the lithium issue. the 30kg lithium in an average EV? Or the 60kg in a rareer model S sized EV. Over 150k miles if you literally burned it you'd use 0.2g per mile. Except 90% off that lithium is extractable from the car battery. Except even after 150k miles that battery has a 10year life as grid balancing, where it will allow wind and solar to produce a cars lifetime off useful energy all over again. So about 0.1g of lituim a mile unless it's a Tesla and that's 0.05g(EVs wil prob last twice as long a ice cars but only Tesla has any data to show that as a likely outcome)per mile. Oh and every time the lituim is recycled that number goes down. So what's the environmental damage off lithium. So 87% isn't actually mined. It simply brine left to eveporate in the sun. This has a very low environmental footprint. Mining lituim(13%) can be environmentally destructive but can run almost waste free in a good regulatory environment. This isn't a lituim problem, it's a political one. Overall It adds a barely measurable amount off damage to an EV. Easily of set by a single digit of miles in any ICE

Most frustrating thing about these ev's (and now most new cars) is that the tech isn't designed to be upgraded. It is moving at cell phone improvement pace but they are still making these cars with the same outdated build style that "what you get on day one is what you get forever". So your car's tech starts to become frustratingly bad after ~5 years and there is no way to pop on in an updated CPU/system board/memory and or screen. Even Tesla isn't doing this despite the obvious problem they have seen with their older models. None of them are letting 3rd parties fill in the gap either as they would have for parts. We are now treating $40k+ purchases that we want to be able to use for 30-50 years (as we have been doing) like

Really nice and enjoyable review of the new pony - thanks. One question though. Robert really seems to dislike EVs that aren't pure designs. Shouldn't they be judged by their result? There are many "conversions" which are superior in nearly every way to their pure brothers . For example, the MINI is cheaper, faster, better handling, more efficient with a better range than the Honda E, yet it was given the proverbial cold shoulder, and the Honda was praised. Robert, what really bothers you about "conversions"? Is it that they could have been even better? Just wondering :)

Interesting. It definitely is hot on the heels of the Tesla Model Y - which I have a Dual Motor Long Range. Surprising to me is the range Ford has achieved. I guess I just got used to seeing 200 mile range and less EVs. The Telsa Y is a heavy car at 4300 pounds, but this Ford long range version is 4800 pounds. Both heavy. I would recommend that before you buy this car get a ride in a Tesla with the Full Self Driving option. Even in it's not yet 'there' level that I have it's amazing, stress reducing and will soon be perfected. (The Almost there level is the Beta that's been out since September but only to a few people. Musk said I think second quarter or the end of April for the rest of us.) FSD as it is now will keep you on a street or road, stop at all the stop signs and red lights, but you have to give the 'stalk' a push down to say, 'Okay, let's go' when the light turns green. On freeways it will handle all the navigation from on ramp to off ramp (So in the UK A roads), you still have to approve lane changes. And in all of these levels you have to keep your hands on the wheel, but if you need to fuss with your phone a bit, change the audio book you can do it without risking your life. And in rush hour traffic it eliminates all the stress so you relax and look around. There is zero chance of running into the guy in front of you. An hour after I first used Navigate on Autopilot I was tearing down the 210 freeway in Los Angeles less than 16" from Jersey (construction) barriers. So unless you hate Tesla for some reason, you owe it to yourself to give it a whirl. And the range on the Mustang reported here from EV Data, well the Model Y Long Range is basically the same. My experience matches this. (I do have a bit of a heavy foot. I figure anything between Zero and the speed limit + 5mph is fair game.) What also needs a good comparison is slippery and snowy conditions. My Y is like a Subaru in the snow, but probably not like a Jeep or a Land Rover. My Tesla has 8 cameras and records front, back and sides. If you are a dodgy individual do not muck around anywhere near a Tesla - it is recording you. (Wham Bam Tesla Cam is a KZbin channel that shows these videos. The 'other guy' always says, "He hit me," and the officers at the scene aren't sure - and then the Tesla guy shows them the video. Often the police start writing citations right at the scene. Teslas even not in FSD mode still do everything they can to keep you out of trouble. Supercharger network does work great, but in California if you don't unplug after a full charge many stations start charging you a $1 a minute. The car has no alarm feature for this, so I have to set the timer on my iPhone. The 30 minute nap at the charging station is an amazing but odd Plus to owning an EV. Mostly, I just plug in at home. My electric bill is about $60 a month, more from charging my car, but I'm still in the mid-low usage range for my neighborhood. (I made a 100' 10-4 electric extension cord with 240 VAC but only 15 amps. I get 14 miles/hour charging.) So even in California I'm paying less than gas. Hope this helps. ICE is dead - enjoy them while they last.

Give Ford time, this is their first foray into EVs, it's only possible initially as an expensive concept until the manufacturing processes are refined and made economical.
