2021 Giant Trance 27.5 first look!
Today we are taking a look at the brand new Giant Trance 27.5 full suspension mountain bike. We will be unboxing, finding out the weight, and giving my first impressions on this new machine. I was happy to find out that it also has the brand new shimano deore 12 speed on it!
If you have any questions about the new Trance feel free to ask and I will answer to the best of my ability. I know information is limited on the new models at the moment.

I got the 29er 2021 Trance today... and of course took at out for a Ride on CC trail system us even though it was well over 100 F here...LOL Rides like a dream... wow... lovin it ,as compared to the 27.5, different tires, front shock is different as well, Brakes same, rear shock per what you mentioned less trail but same fox rear shock which is awesome ...Overall its a really fun bike, and a Great Value! :)

2020 trance 3 27.5 in the US had a Rockshox 35 fork and RS Deluxe Select on the rear. Also has Shimano MT-400/401 brakes.

Hey I got my hands on one of these a few days ago. It’s been amazing so far. The only question I have is giant states all FS can fit a 27.5 x 2.6 front and rear. Looking at the 2.4 rear on my trance, it appears to be maxed in terms of width. Did you happen to look at that at all??

Hmmmm, I can't say with honesty that I did on the 2021 model. I know the frame didn't change from last year's and I know some people that run 2.5 on theirs with no issue. The next one I get my hands on I will shove a 2.6 equipped wheel in the rear and find out for sure

For anyone wanting one now it's a hit and miss with some shops. Most shops you'll just have to reserve one. They literally are flying off the delivery truck. I placed a order for mines. Luckily I got a ETA of OCT 2020. Some will sit there and wait for a buyer. Some models will sell so fast you'll never see it on the floor. Depends for your area. Shop all bike shops in your area. You just might get lucky and find one by itself.

On giant trance Facebook page they have a picture of one. It has fox shock in the rear and Bomber ll in front. Supposedly only going to come in one color and that is black but to me it looks like a dark dark purple

The 2020 Trance 3 had the same fork (RS 35 Gold RL) FYI, the 2019 had the Suntour Aion. The 35 Gold better is better than the Recon and Judy, it's almost twice the cost.

Yeah the Trance 2 I think is the price/performance king. The Trance 3 is great too but spending a bit more to get the SLX and better suspension would be the way to go IMO. That is if a 27.5 Trance 2 even exists anymore.

I was going to say the same. Love my 2020, and the Rock Shox fork and shock were part of what sold me on it. I like the Eagle components, but would have much rather had the Deore and Fox rear shock, they just add to the value. Oh and the black paint job is awesome... Oh well, I’m just glad I was able to find a bike this year.

I wish I could give you a hard date on when they will be in open inventory. Most bikes the shop is even getting in stock at the moment are pre sold. That basically means if you know for sure you want a certain model I would call your local Giant dealer and see if they can put one on order and see what the ETA is.

The trance is definitely better suited for all scenarios vs the anthem. I love the anthem but it is strictly a fast xc race bike. I have taken the anthem on some pretty rough mountain terrain but the Trance would have handled it better 😅

Hey Mossie, i have a question, i have a Trance Advanced on order, I ordered the 27.5 in a medium frame, i'm 51 years old and been working hard to get back in shape after Back and Shoulder surgery, so thats why i chose the sizing i did, i'm 5'10 and 165 lbs, i'm a small 5'10 you can say, anyway according to the size chart the medium frame is supposedly fitting for riders up to 5'11, in your opinion did i make the wrong choice? i'm having regrets i didn't get a large frame, and if you think i should have went bigger can i just replace the Dropper for a bigger one? will that make a difference? Thanks.

Without seeing you on the two bikes I would say you made the right call. I am 5'11 with a 32" inseam. I can technically ride a medium or a large but I have always went with a large bike. Most people on the other hand will size down if they are in between sizes. I think you will be just fine on the medium. Keep up the good work getting back in shape!

This is now officially on the Giant (US) website with full specs: www.giant-bicycles.com/us/trance-2021 Differences from 2020: Drivetrain changes from SRAM SX 10-50 tooth to Shimano Deore 10-51 (and Praxis Cadet crank vs SRAM SX), rear shock changes from Rockshox Deluxe to Fox Float, and brakes change from MT400 2 piston to MT420 4 piston (Shimano or Tektro can be spec'd depending on parts availability), Shimano vs Giant hubs and a slight change to the handlebar sizing. Definitely a better drivetrain and brakes! It doesn't say "Trance 3", just "Trance" on the website so this may very well be the only 27.5 Trance for 2021, no Trance 2 with higher spec FOX fork & SLX drivetrain and brakes likes years past.

My '20 Trance 3 (and wife's Intrigue 3) both got ripped off a couple of weeks ago and our lbs projects we will get our '21 models in FEBRUARY 2021, even though we have cash in hand (thanks to insurance)!!! It really depends on when the bike was manufactured. At the bottom of the page all the big companies have a section that says all parts are subject to change. Because parts have been so hard to source this year I think they were just trying to find something similar to get bikes delivered on time. The last few of these we have had in did come with Shimanos though!

A couple of things, I've run the tektro Orion 4p brakes for ages, and they're actually staggering. They're such great performing brakes. My only criticism would be the bleed port location on the lever. It's kind of in the middle, and not at a high point, which makes bleeding a bit fiddly by trying to lean the bike from side to side to release air. Otherwise very good value. The suntour Aion 35 is a much better fork than people give credit for. It has a damper setup similar to the RS Pike, it isn't too much heavier, and so much cheaper. These are what I call 'underdog products' and more people should give them a go.

I agree with most of what you said. Coming from a "selling" standpoint, the RS has the name recognition now over the suntour in my area but I have had ZERO warranties with suntour suspension which is awesome. The tektro brake line has always been phenomenal for the price with the only caveat being the bleeding isn't quite as easy as shimano. But it's still easier than sram😂

Within the last year or so, I have really grown a fondness for the mid to high range of forks from suntour. They're the easiest and fastest to pull apart and service, they're fully travel adjustable, and actually do weigh and perform similarly to some impressive models from the industry leaders. I'm currently building up a rocky mountain instinct that's going to be completely spec'd using underdog products.

I know Giant in the past has ran different specs for different countries. Honestly for right now I think the whole reason we haven't seen a full line reveal is because Giant doesn't know 100% what they are able to procure as far as components.

Because the bike is pretty beefy I would get a 27.5 if your looking to send some jumps and be a little more maneuverable on the trails but if you want to squeeze some more speed out of the bike I would opt for the 29er

I just picked up the new Trance X2 29er yesterday from my LBS. That thing is beautiful! Shimano SLX drivetrain, Shimano 4 piston brakes, Fox 36 up front and Fox DPS floater in the rear, Maxxis tires, its a top of the line spec'd bike for the price range! Highly recommended!

Im 173cm and really worried about whether I should get a small or a medium. Different sites suggest different size. Im right on the border. Which way do i go?

At your height I would lean towards a medium. I would always suggest trying both sizes out but that is hard to do with the current state of affairs. If I go by the sizing charts I am right in the middle of a medium and large. The bigger bike has always felt way more comfortable to me

I have same bike 2018 and it's Trance2 Fox 34 Rytham, Dps shock, snimano xt and slx parts. Both only beter whiles dt swis and it's bomb porod. It's.same bake bit with beter mutch beter parts.But wery god bike.
