The Witch's Heart is one of my favorite books I read this year. I thought it was just completely amazing. Blood Song is one of my favorite books of all time so maybe that's why haha. 😄 If you like that one I think you'll love the Goddess of Nothing at All. It follows Sygin, one of Loki's other wives.

I loved the emphasis in The Witch's Heart on a mother's love for her children, it was so touching! For some reason I didn't find it that slow, maybe Loki's antics were enough to keep me going until the real action at the end. I bought it for my mom for her birthday this year and she really enjoyed it too, even though she's not into much fantasy/mythology.

Glad you loved Shadow of the Gods! It was one of my favorites this year. Does this mean you'll give Valour a try now that you have more confidence in Gwynne? 😅

I've been meaning to read The Witch's Heart and Under the Whispering Door. I want to pick up The Witch's Heart even more now. It was kind of on the back burner but it sounds so intriguing to me.

I love stories about the afterlife. The thing is though, it's hard to be completely satisfied with it because everyone has their own idea as to what a comforting afterlife is.

So glad that you liked Shadow of the Gods. Can't wait to try it. I'm hoping that next year you get to continue The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. It's *chef's kiss* brilliant.

I've loved The Ones We're Meant To Find, it even made my favorites list in 2021. But once you've read it, it's soooo hard to explain the story to someone that hasn't read it :D

Hearing your praise for Shadow of the Gods has made me more excited to pick it up 💜 I hadn't heard of a Witch's Heart but the cover was familiar- I'll be adding it to my gr for when I'm in the mood for a mythology inspired fantasy 😊 The Ones We're Meant to Find was one of my favourite reads of the year and I agree it doesn't match the marketing- it's a very unique book, both in terms of its themes and characters and while it's hard to say it was enjoyable, I personally couldn't stop reading and thinking about the characters.

Just finished The Shadow Of The Gods yesterday. I definitely agree with what you said about the characters in the book. Also the worldbuilding was amazing imo

I definitely agree with your criticism about the friendship in The Witch's Heart, that was the only thing that I was annoyed about but I adore the rest of it

I have been meaning to read Witch's Heart and The Ones We're Meant to Find.. I've had both of them on my shelf for a while now! I did just finish Under the Whispering Door recently though and LOVED it, totally not a typical fantasy book, not even what I normally like but it was just so sweet and precious. Shadow of the Gods saved John Gwynne books for me lol I felt the same about Malice as you did pretty much, though I don't plan to even try book 2, but I absolutely loved Shadow of the Gods.

So this whole time I thought that the bloodsworn saga was a trilogy, but it turns out it's a duology? Is that true? If so I'm going to start the shadow of the gods asap

I listened to the audiobook for The Ones We're Meant to Find and I think that's probably a better medium than reading the book, I definitely would've been bored reading it but the audiobook was more interesting. I do think the book was marketed as Sci-Fi but the goodreads awards put YA sci-fi and fantasy in the same category, I do which they had more YA categories to vote on:(

I just finished The Ones We're Meant to Find as well. I don't read a lot of sci-fi and have fallen out of my dystopian phase so it took me a little while to get into the book. Once the twist happened about 65% in, I absolutely adored it but it did not match the marketing at all.

I’m currently reading under the whispering door and having very much the same experience. I love TJ Klune, the writing is immaculate, but I really cannot stand ghost stories. And especially anything involving a ghost romance, I just don’t find it believable and so it instantly bores me. I probably won’t end up rating it because it doesn’t feel fair to give a genuinely good book 3 stars simply because I made the mistake of not reading the synopsis first.

My Book of the Year this year was definitely Mask of Mirrors. So sad to see this book fly under the radar.

Your description of The Ones We’re Meant to Find” sounds like “Klara and the Sun” like you just get this glimpse of the world and it is kind of a slice of life. Not really entertaining but it is… something

I dnf'd The witche's heart, cause as you said, I need action in my fantasy. I'm sure it's a me thing. I also thought it read a little like a YA. I'm trying to stay away from YA fantasy at the moment. I completely agree with your opinion on "Under the whispering door", I really liked that one (5 🌟)?), it's more contemporary with magical realism than fantasy for me, it's very accessible and it's a topic that will be a hit or miss with people. I'm in that small group of readers who didn't really enjoy "The House in the cerulan sea " and loved "under the whispering door" 🙄. Thanks for reviewing "The Shadow of the Gods". I see you liked it more than "Malice" which makes me more confident in buying myself a copy 😉
