2021 Hobie Outback stability and rollover

Awesome. Good to know what to do if you go over. Just got a PA 12 and the first trip was testing stability, rolling it over, practicing righting it, and getting back on. Every Kayak fisher should know how to self rescue. Thanks for the video.

Love my Outback..one of the single best purchases i have ever made. One hick up though...i and currently in the process of having the hull replaced by Hobie. I got 2 stress cracks in the hull on the corner of the center compartment. They no longer cary the Slate blue color so i had to choose another. Even with this issue i would not choose another Kayak!

Mine just recently tipped on me. It was loaded with gear for camping, stood up like I've done a thousand times and it flipped in the blink of an eye. Cost me three fishing rods! It's relatively "stable" but it will bite you. Oh, and righting it when it has gear in it is NOT easy.

that's a good flat-rippled water demo of the Outback stability. However, in rollers & waves of 2-3' with swell time of 4-9 seconds between waves, it's another story!

No, I could not touch the bottom. The lake is 10-15 feet at deep that location.

Having been on the Old Town (while owning the Outback), I can confirm the Old Town is very stable. However, it's very slow and a wetter ride in the rough. That short, fat hull is great for sheer stability, but performance isn't great. I've got a video of both running side by side and the Old Town pushes a lot of water, as it just isn't efficient. It's still great for anyone who wants absolute protection against flipping, as it is super stable, but you can have too much of a good thing.
