Lack of center console can be used to store exceptionally long items between the front seats (like skis) or to grant access to the rear seats while driving in case the front passenger needs to wrangle a child. It's nice to have a few vehicles that still offer open space.

@paul 13:00 the spare tyre in Carnival in on the driver side and not passenger side. Here are the reasons why I bought a Carnival over odyssey: 1. No iso or top tether points in the 3rd row 2. Late to the party here but regarding the captain's chairs... the reason for the sideways movement is to get them past the wheel arches. If you fold the third row down, you can send the captain's chairs WAY back. Toyota's minivans (Estima, Alphard) also have this feature.

Thanks! Another great review made my Paul as always. Watch your show every time, really enjoyed it! As an Odyssey owner, I have some personal experience to share. I had the old 2020 VTI-L. The new one doesn’t have a 360 camera and footrest, which is not handy for me. Besides, the Aussie market only gets the lowest spec of Odyssey from Japan( their cheapest model has parking sensors and 360 camera as standard)… what a shame... These functions are super helpful in school time to pick up and drop off. Space is one of the best features of Odyssey. I generally use the Odyssey as a four-seater (with the third row fold down). Therefore, the two captain seats can be set way back to enlarge the second row room. By doing that, there is huge room for kids and my elder parents to get in and out the car easily witou climbing those big SUV's. They can also enjoy the footrest and huge headroom during long distance driving. In terms of the engine, not sure why Honda insists on using this old 2.4 engine ( There used to be a better Earthdream 2.4L engine in the Chinese market with more horsepower and more torque). Not sure why Honda not adapting that one on these Odyssey's. Frankly speaking, this old 2.4L engine (225NM) is fairly adequate for daily driving. Most of the Odyssey buyers only using this car on daily family commuting which therefore it is quite enough. KIA's petrol engine is much more thirsty than this and it is not quite sufficient in urban driving environments. I took 5 adults and 2 kids to Snowy mountain and carried several pieces of luggage, the car still rides really well. In my experience, using the paddle shift to actively engaging the gear-changing process will help your driving experience much smoother. Besides, if you looking at the resale value of cars (www.commsec.com.au/content/dam/EN/ResearchNews/2020Reports/March/ECO_Insights_090320-Aspects_of_car_market.pdf), this is a report published by the Commonwealth bank which using real figures. Honda Odyssey holds its value really well. This means the lower depreciation will be a big advantage when you finishing use the car after your kids grow up and time to buy a new car. The only two downsides I would complain about with an Odyssey are NVH and harsh suspension As this Odyssey is designed for the Japanese local market which has very good road condition. Therefore, the ride is pretty stiffy and hard on our Australian stone chip roads. Therefore, noise is a big problem. The new model with the new wheel has a new noise-reduction technology on it which should change the game. Besides, all the windows now come with double glazed windows which could also largely reduce the noise than the old model. To sum up, if you have a limited budget ($55000 ) and looking for a car that can sometimes carry 7 people without letting anyone feeling tired onboard, Odyssey is a very good choice for you. If you have a higher budget, I do think KIA Carnival Platinum will be a very wise choice.

Do you think the Odyssey will be suitable for 3 kids (all needing baby car seats - oldest being 4)? Checked the 2021 model out, and we think the boot space will be really small, after being compromised by the tether straps to the anchor points (really hoped Honda would have shifted them to the back of the seat instead of bottom of boot). Thinking of having 2 car seats in the back row, and mum and newborn in middle row. Also removal of 360 cameras a bit concerning for a large vehicle 😟

Proper family cars don't have a centre console for free interchanging of seats from front to back. Those features are mainly for driver-oriented user experience with limited accessory ports and ventilation which isn't an issue with family sized vehicles like Odyssey

I drive a 2020 Odyssey model (previous to this one) I’m still dumbfounded as to why they still haven’t included the middle console and why they eliminated the multiple USB and HDMI ports from the last one? Power on takeoff seems ordinary so that’s disappointing. What I do like are the second row captains chairs.

I'm a new Odyssey owner, chose it over the carnival because of the interior. It's hard to tell via video reviews but when you sit in one you really notice a difference. Helped a mate who was expecting their 4th child compare the Odyssey and Carnival. Agree that the Honda feels more premium inside (Kia's 'leather' is very plasticky). Biggest difference though was the outright size. The Kia is wider and longer and his wife found it just too large. Honda was narrower and easier to drive. That being said, she really didn't like either (because they were vans) and ended up with a CX-9! Really enjoy your reviews Paul....keep up the good work. cheers.
@clb16173 жыл бұрын
Yes agree with the size of the Carnival being longer and wider than the Odyssey. As a family of 7 we also had a look at the CX9 on the weekend and was not good enough in terms of third row space and accessibility (kids didn't like having to move the second row of seats every time they have to go to the back), boot space was also minimal. So in the end we decided to go for the Odyssey as it had more space on all rows and more boot space.

We ended up buying the ViLX7 blue Odyssey over the Carnival due to it's more smaller size, which will make it easier to park and not taking too much space on car parks and garage. I know someone who has a Carnival and avoids parking next to other cars, because of the amount of space it takes especially on tight parking spaces. I know the 2.4 under powered cvt engine is a let down, but after test driving one on the weekend around the suburbs and on the motorway, it was sufficient enough to transport all 7 of us on board. And top of the range model was far more cheaper than the Carnival platinum brand new. Reliability wise - long term Honda may be better.

How’s it doing now? Settling between a hybrid CRV and a used Odyssey since production ended😊
@jonathanmargono3303 жыл бұрын
The reason there is no centre console in the middle of the front seats is to allow walk through access from the front seats all the way to the third row. I believe in some overseas markets, the Odyssey has a centre console. The sideways adjustment of the second row (10:12) allows you to put the seats together. When the third row seats are folded away, you can push the second row seats all the way back to create a very spacious 4 seater arrangement. You will have to remove the metal stops in the rails (visible in 11:09) before you can push the second row back. Those things are there to prevent you from pushing the second row seats back when the third row is occupied. Initially I thought that the omission of parking sensors are a problem, but with the very good 360 camera, I hardly miss it anymore once I get used to the car. A disappointing thing about this generation of Odyssey is that the rear suspension is changed to a torsion beam instead of the independent rear suspension of the previous model. The ride might be comfortable up front, but it is not great in the rear. I own the pre facelift version of this Odyssey. The advantage over the Kia Carnival would is that the Odyssey is a more compact car to park in the city, nicer second row seats. The negatives of the Odyssey: 6 month or 10,000km service intervals. Shorter warranty than Kia's 7 years.

Honda has at least two versions of the Odyssey for different markets...the US version should have parking sensors, as it's bigger than the Asian/Australian version (this one). No Problem , a cheap reversing camera with an on switch for the screen from Te.u for $ 19.95 did the job. Drill a hole in to the H ( HONDA ) emblem in the frond and install the camera , the wiring goes quid well, just push it through from the driver door / mudguard gap with the help of a flex plastic to return the cables to the interior and plug it in to the 12V. that is bizarre, no parking sensors for such a large vehicle. doesn't seem to be a digital speedo either?

Honda needs to use simpler names for their trim levels instead of “VTI-LX7” or something like that
@cyrilthomas97303 жыл бұрын
In America it's much more simpler... Elite is the top trim, then there is Premium.. u know
@HughRussell063 жыл бұрын
@@cyrilthomas9730 yeah, for example with the civic, it’s vti, vti-s, vti-l and vti-lx

I think this naming of trim levels is only for Asia and Australia. In the US, the trims are LX, EX, EX-L, touring, and elite. I'm not sure if there's a trim above elite.

Disappointment! No parking sensors in a top spec? And no USB in the second and third? I’d rather compromise some features (automatic door slider) for those.

Yeah I really wanted this to work for a 14K price difference on the Carnival top spec. Carnival destroys Odyssey on back storage. Hope the bank loves me!!!!

Honda could have used the 1.5 Turbo engine from the Stepwagon currently being sold overseas for power increase and better fuel efficiency.

My sister has a series 1 1996 Odyssey 430k on original engine and transmission- super reliable and more dynamic than this outdated one - check the suspension spec Paul as they’ve gone backwards in engineering and tech so Honda today struggling in our market with recent cut to dealer numbers

Honda is going to lose their market share with CVT in such a big car and underpowered engine.

I dont get how this is practical if you have 3 kids car seats. Youd have to put one in the second row and two way in the back... Or 2 in front and one at back. Access to clip them in would be hard no matter how you do it. And then where do you put rhe pram? Wont fit in the tiny boot. If youre a family if 5 how is it not better to go for something like an outback with a wide back seet and fit 3 seats across and have a huge boot?

Some odd choices, especially that spare-wheel placement. I wonder why the 1.5T from the Civic wasn't considered for this? Keep up the good work in any case.
@damilolaakanni3 жыл бұрын
IMO, the 2.0t from the Accord with its 10 speed automatic transmission would have been a much better power train than the 1.5t with the CVT. You'll get more power (about 250HP) and a smooth engine. For comparison, the US odyssey uses the V6 from the pilot with the same 10 speed automatic transmission. That makes about 280HP. This 2.4 is the base engine in the CRV, I believe.

How the hell does this thing have blind spot monitoring but no parking sensors? They went to the trouble of installing and wiring up sensors on the rear quarter panel but not the bumper bar? What a weird and stupid cost saving measure.
@jamieshields95213 жыл бұрын
Spare tyre? That worst placement especially if it’s raining n having kick kids out of the way to get to the spare tyre. No USB points? I think Honda needs update their platform with functionality.

Weird that my parent's 2014 Odyssey has a 360 degree camera, but the top spec 2021 Odyssey doesn't. It is sorely needed. And the engine struggles massively with a full load, especially while going uphill. It struggled to even do 50 with the foot hard down when we had to pick up speed after slowing down for a pulled over cop.

Thigh support for 2nd row doesn't look good for a minivan. Plus I'm not a fan of how the 3rd row stows away since it can't be split into the floor. I like the airy interior and dashboard though! Overall, I prefer the Carnival.

Where do u put your flat rim that’s now mucky when you’ve replaced it with the spare....I loved my RB1 but this is such a huge compromise..if your gonna go American then bring the massive American version. Enjoying my Carnival now bar the 14L/100km petrol usage.

The US version is totally different. I don't get that. I think ours has a much better interior but the Aussie one looks better outside. Definitely not the same grille we use.

I don't understand why they get rid of 360° camera and footrest for second row and no USB at back seat. I don't think honda can survive in Australia. I visited one of dealership, they don't have any displayed car for test drive and told me just visit website!! Good luck!

Yes agree with you there and would prefer if they did not have the star wars sliding door tech system and just kept the pull up curtain shades for the rear windows, which was in the previous 2018 upgrade. Dealers are short on stock from what I have been told as most were built in Dec 2020 and people are actually buying the 2021 model prior to the Honda changes taking effect on 1st July.
