Once you realize that a renegade is not a Jeep Wrangler and you realize that it kept up with the Jeep Wrangler on street tires makes you really appreciate the Renegade Trailhawk. Literally all you need to do is put some nice all-terrain or some Mickey Thompsons and that's a hard Beast to beat

It performed decently. The problem is the 4 cylinder is too weak. They should have increased it to 2.0 liters for more power. I've seen some 4 bangers as large as 3 liters!

So true I own a 2022 renegade trailhawk I went threough a mud bath worth of mud water up to the bottom part of my front grill which means it was over my door and it went like it was a joke to my Jeep I was also in mud mode I went fast as well I wasn’t going slow it was grass as first I didn’t know it was deep I was going prob 10 mph or more into it and it felt like a big drop but no damage no issues it handled everything like a champion

Some really good off-road tires are the Toyo open country, they have M/T & A/T get the A/T unless you’re like me and you take your jeep on trails every weekend or on your way home from work “oh look an opening into to woods trail” then get the M/T’s

If they ever put a transfer case in the Renegade like they did with the Cherokee Trailhawk and put a rear Locker on it that thing is going to be a monster. I have the same engine and transmission as the Renegade because I have the 2.4 but it doesn't matter the thing will still climb a tree in low. It's a tremendous difference in power.
@lowrangemaniac53262 жыл бұрын
@@off-roadingexplained8417 I also have a Renegade Trailhawk, but the EU specs one, with the 2.0 170hp diesel engine... I agree with you that the Renegade should have a transfer case, at least, like the old Fiat Panda 4x4 from Steyr Puch. The problem isn't the crawl ratio, but the clutch system that the Renegade use to have the 4x4 traction... Instead, the old Panda have a pure mechanic system: you pull a lever and you change from a FWD to a pure 4x4.
@off-roadingexplained84172 жыл бұрын
When I don't use my transfer case and when I don't use my locker, I'm like a renegade that weighs about 500 lb more and has 265 width tire. It's the same , mechanically: engine and transmission (as the 2.4 renegade). Exact same Transmission , ratios etc. I think the renegade winds up with 21:1 (instead of 20:1) probably because of smaller wheel diameter but that's a little pedantic to mention. Your diesel probably has more torque than my Cherokee. When were both in first gear , you will pull harder. When I'm in 4 low, I'll pull more than 2.5 times harder. I can climb anything basically without 4 low- same gears you have in that case. It's just not as controlled. 20:1 is still a lot of power. But my low-low is 56:1. The wheel torque produced is greater than the wheel torque that a 5.7 V8 Toyota tundra makes in 4 high. It's considerably higher. 56 is an insane multiplier.

@@lowrangemaniac5326 what's the issue with not having a mechanical 4x4 system ? The overheating thing and it shutting off ?
@lowrangemaniac53262 жыл бұрын
@@off-roadingexplained8417 exactly! Sadly, the clutch system isn't as robust like a proper mechanic transfer case, and the Renegade have 2 sets of clutches: one at the output of the transmission and one at the input of the rear differential. Basically, when you're in normal driving condition, the Jeep disconnect the clutches from both the transmission output and the differential, and when you activate the 4x4 lock, those 2 sets of clutches get engaged, coupling the drive shaft and the rear differential to the transmission. Is a simple system that does the job, but it could get overheated easily if you abuse it in the wrong way, and it will shut down the car when the temperature gets too high

The tires that come with the Renegade and the compass are not great. The first thing I did for my wife's Compass was changed the tires. Falken wildpeak AT3. I wish I would have went ahead with the 225 on my wife's Compass Trailhawk instead of the 215 stock size Ohh well.

I wouldn't get a 2015-2018. The local Jeep dealer is constantly working on them. I have a 2021 Trailhawk and the only issues I've had is the antenna broke at auto car wash and they the backup camera was still on during driving. Both replaced under warranty.
