2021 Kia Niro EV: Is It Any Good?

I have this car six months just a great car this is my third ev my first was Hyundai ionic then the kona which was great but I traded it to this car because of the interior size has more space in back . It really is a good car very economic great range all around good car

I went through 3 lease terms with Nissan Leaf, two generations of the Leaf. I had no issue with 3 Nissan Leaf for the past 8 years. I was looking for an EV that still have the Fed tax credit and found the 2020 e-Niro. Earlier this year, KIA offered $12,400 discount on the 3 year lease so that was no brainer. I do like the e-Niro much better than the Leaf because of its crossover style vs hatchback of the Leaf. That means the seating is more comfortable and more cargo space in the back. Mine doesn't come with a level 2 charger while the current model Leaf does. The range is also much longer, almost double of the Leaf. The e-Niro also more modern equipped such electric parking brake, brake hold, adaptive cruise control, Apple Car Play/ Android Auto, etc.... The dashboard is also more modern looking. However, there is also an issue. While the shinny white strip below the vent look very stylist (4:21), it present an issue. On a sunny day when you drive around noon, the strip can reflex the sun right at your eyes. Here is the bad part. My e-Niro only has over 6,000 miles. It has disabled 3 times in a two weeks period. The first time was in the morning with full charge, it won't drive or shift to gear. Then after awhile, it got back to itself. The second time, it disabled while my wife's driving. About 30 minutes later when I arrived, it got back to normal again. We're in the middle of a big project so I decided not to drive to the dealership at that time. A few days later, it disabled again while driving. I had to call roadside service this time. I have never need to call roadside service before so I don't know what to expect. But waiting for over 2 hours for the tow truck to come, is that normal expectation? It was late on Friday so the dealer had already closed. I had to wait until the next day (Saturday) to come to the dealer to tell them what happened. At that time, they not able to provide me a loaner. Later the day, I called to checkup but they still yet able to diagnose the problem. However, they were able to give me a loaner, not an e-Niro but just a basic sedan. The people in the dealership treat me nice so I can't complain. The following weeks, they told me it's the auxiliary battery and it takes about a week to order. A week went by, now they told me it's the controller and it's on back order with no ETA. Now my e-Niro is still in the shop for over a weeks without ETA. I don't think I got bad service because the people in the dealership have treated me nice and fair. I think EV is new to them so it's will take time to get up to speed. However, I think KIA corporation, not the dealership, needs to prepare better, to provide both to support the dealerships and have parts available.

@@fvvfvbbbb After over three months waiting for the main battery controller board, we got our Niro back. It has been almost 4 months since and no issues. We like the car and understand completely that sometimes electronic parts do break unexpectedly. However, we do concern the part's availability. Over three months waiting is unacceptable.

Just rented one of these while my 1999 Lexus gets painted. After first drive to work, I'm hooked. This is very nice. As a 6'4" guy with long legs, I need space. The Niro doesn't disappoint. Much better than my wife's '02 Sedona or my mom's '05 Sportage.

Nice to see an electric car with actual buttons and dials. My hands burn up in the sun and I cannot drive comfortably without driving gloves, which makes touch screens almost impossible to use. Plus, I hate having to reach for a touch screen in a car.

The main thing that disappoints me about this car is no front trunk! Axle motors are the future. But it definitely has potential. I would buy it to save money on commuting.

Because this isn't built EV. It's a EV conversion. For the price. You can't really complain. For the conversions... You just have to thank for fast charging and the acceptable range.

Just bought this car 2022. Seems to be great for a starter EV. All the bells and whistles are typical of a regular car, less of a learning curve then the futuristic EVs. I’m loving it

Hey Ben there is a reason it spins. the Niro EV has a combined system output of 201 horsepower and 291 pound feet of torque. It has a little more horse power than you thought. I love your channel by the way.

@@BenHardyCars came here to say this. Niro EV has 201hp, that's why it's so chirpy and can easily surprise others with its acceleration. Some decent 225s would probably take a half second off the 0-60.

This looks good! I'm more of a 🚚 or sedan fan, but I could see myself using this to commute to and from work (12 mile round trip) and for running nearby errands, then using my Ram 1500 to tow the boat and camp on the weekends!

e-niro 150kW have about 200 horse power if I remember correctly

Since the 2020 model, the Niro has a 10,25 inch touch screen. It is about a 1/3 wider than the one on the video.

One of the features that distinguishes the Niro from other EV's is the rear cargo, seats down. No view! No measurements!

It has 201 hp. The 139 figure is for the hybrid. Also, 0-60 time very similar to the bolt, maybe a hair quicker even.

These are pretty nice. I would never own one u less I was forced. Thankfully this vehicle doesn't sport that....ummmmm...word that rhymes with 'besarted' new Kia or KIN logo. EV's just unnerved me. So damn quiet. AWESOME for special ops...not so great on the road and worried about your vehicle suddenly going dead.
