I owned a plugin Ioniq for 3 years, loved it. I got the plug in for the back up mileage as the full electric didn’t have the range I needed. I just traded it for a full electric Kona 2 weeks ago because of the range. I’m averaging 450 klm. per charge . Your comparison is very fair. Since I don’t need the back seat room and I do need the range I’m very happy.
@edsgarage0013 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, they're both great cars. I clearly prefer the Ioniq, but for anyone who really needs the range, the Kona is an awesome choice! Thx for the comment!

I agree with your views about ioniq, I needed a car that could carry a bike inside and the ioniq does with both wheels on (Rear seat folded Down). Also the preferred trim was the lowest price - has everything except the blind spot detection. Enjoy driving the ioniq every day!

Any differences between the 2021 vs 2020 ioniq model? Also their are some major manufacture incentives here in the US for the Kona and Ioniq. The Kona SE model with 10,500 incentive and the the 2020 ioniq limited with a 14,500 incentive for *lease*. The ioniq limited is priced pretty much priced the same as the Kona SE(i think you guys call it the preferred version) but has a more significant incentive. Any thoughts to help me make a decision? I love longer trips so i favor the longer range. But I also like the features of the Ioniq more than the Kona. I own a 2018 ioniq hybrid and I absolutely love it. But thinking about losing that ~600 mile range from the hybrid to 170miles with the EV version worries me a bit.
@edsgarage0013 жыл бұрын
No differences between those model years. I don't generally bring up price, because it's very state/province specific. Especially the government rebates. I would take the Ioniq all day long. But right now, I would actually wait and see what the Ioniq 5 is going to be priced at before making any decisions.
@rickyllapa1003 жыл бұрын
@@edsgarage001 isn't the ioniq 5 expected to be priced above $45k USD? The incentives, along with negotiation to lower the price is what make the ioniq 2020 electric more appealing in my area right now.
@edsgarage0013 жыл бұрын
@@rickyllapa100 well yes, That's a good point, and I'd agree the current Ioniq is the best bet for value.

kona you say is at approximately 415 kms? after a full charge my kona ev says I have 510kms. are you mistaken or am i? i find nexen tires on my kona has very little Traction for braking and or accelerating quickly. it doesn't give me the confidence to take corners aggressively. could you tell me if I could widen my tires and by how much without it rubbing?
@edsgarage0013 жыл бұрын
415km is the official rating in Canada, many people do get much better then that, especially in the summer months. You'll see your range drop in the winter. There's a lot of factors to range though, if you drive mostly in the city, you'll also get much better range. The tires are designed for low rolling resistance, as such, they aren't super for traction. A different brand tire will do better, but a wider tire would as well. Though I couldn't tell you how wide you could go. You'll need to find a shop that's willing to experiment, just know that you'll lose range with stickier tires.

What about roof rack? Not allowed on Ionic? Om Kona it is allowed because it has rails.
@edsgarage0012 жыл бұрын
It's allowed... Hyundai just doesn't have one. I have many clients who've put roof racks on their Ioniqs. 🤷
@edsgarage0012 жыл бұрын
But on the Ioniq, you don't really need a roof rack, because unlike the Kona, the Ioniq actually has a large trunk 😁

@@edsgarage001 4.5 m long planks or large plywood sheets don't fit in the trunk.

@@edsgarage001 My dealer said there was not any allowed roof weight in the docs. Which made him think that either it is not allowed or not recommended.
@edsgarage0012 жыл бұрын
@@elias-frihet the roof can very very readily and easily handle the weight. New cars are designed to be able to withstand at least the weight of the vehicle itself on the roof, in case of rollover. For example, the 2017 Elantra had an ad where they put 7 Elantras on the roof. It was done in Toronto, and it was real. There's aftermarket racks that clip onto the side edge of the roof line, and many people use them. It's not a perfect solution, but it works great.

I totally agree with Ed. Most people are obsessed with SUVs based on appearance and ground clearance. The Ionic and all hatchbacks are superior to SUVs in so many ways. They are more efficient, they are more comfortable for passengers, they hold more cargo, the have a lower centre of gravity. I have an Ioniq electric and it is fantastic. Sure I would love to have 400 km range but 99% of my life I don’t need it and it was way cheaper than a Kona or a Tesla.
