I recently drove the CX-9 and you’re right about the handling, ride, and steering. Very impressive. Not all of us need huge cargo capacity, wide seating dimensions, and blistering acceleration. Some of who are a little older like a nicely appointed SUV for its ride height and ease of entry. The exit feature would be welcome, but at least there are two memory seat settings which can be used. A power tilt and telescope steering wheel with memory would be appreciated, not not essential. Paddle shifters aren’t needed-this is a Mazda, not a Maserati. Lastly, I’m fine with a standard sunroof as the one car I had with a pano roof always rattled. The Signature is on my short list when my disappointing leased Lexus NX is done.

I own a 2016 Mazda CX9, now approaching 50,000 miles. It's as nice today as the day I bought it, and it is hands-down the best car I have ever owned. I am a demanding driver, and it does everything well; the CX9 has stood the test of time. On the road, I can make this car top 30 mpg with a bit of care. If I do my usual freeway burn (75-80 mph), it still returns an honest 25 mpg. Pure town driving comes in at 20 mpg. Performance is stellar, and long trips are effortless. Hard to imagine anything more comfortable. One feature I really like on rural, twisty roads - headlights that turn into the corners and automatically dim. Extremely good night vision. And with AWD those curves are effortless - and fun! t And PLENTY OF POWER, even driving through the Rocky Mountains with a full load. I prefer the engine's torque characteristics with premium fuel, so I pay the surcharge. The no-lag 2.5 turbo runs fine on regular, but the car is a bit quicker with premium - a noticeable difference. Mileage is also slightly up with premium; at today's gas prices, it's pretty much a wash (at least at Costco). When the next full redesign comes (2022?), I may go for another CX9 - Mazda is always upping their game! But so far nothing about this car seems old - appearance, interior, and performance are stellar.

I'm considering this beautiful suv, my husband just bought the cx50 premium plus he loves it. Anyone know if the cx9 would be big enough for a rottweiler, and two other dogs ( one 15 lb/ other is 25lb)? Also we want to be able to lay the back seats flat and make a bed ( long road trip the humans only 😁) even if we needed a piece a plywood or plexiglass for a solid foundation over the seats.....any advice would be appreciated?

@@texasgirl6000 I almost pulled the trigger on the cx 50 and I am debating for a while the cx9 vs waiting for the cx50. Had the change last weekend to go with either or and I end up pulling the trigger on the cx9. Main reason: way more space, way more luxury, confort and and turbo engine for few bucks (which includes higher towing capacity). Big weight on this decision my 2 kids (2y old and 3 month old) and their safety + strollers and a medium size dog. Fits perfect and we cannot be more excited with the purchased. Regarding the cx50 we love it as well however I felt the interior quality vs cx9 not even close...

Pretty but very dangerous! People ask for panoramic roof, but they sometimes don't measure the consequences if an accident happens, especially where the car rolls and rolls. Besides, the sides of the sunroof can get clogged and the car can get a water leak that you will not know from where it comes.

My corporate vehicle is an 18 CX9 Signature and I’m shocked they don’t sell more. My concern was the HP numbers but it’s really quick with all the torque and it handles great for an a SUV. Only complaints...the heated steering wheel only the left and right sides get warm. Top and bottom do not. I have the App to remotely start the vehicle. It’s cumbersome. finally when remotely starting the car the auto temperature functions don’t warm the car enough or defrost the window. Do you know if that systems been updated ? I’m due for a new car this spring and may get another
@belaircarguy4 жыл бұрын
Just purchased a 2021 Signature Edition CX-9 (traded our 2017 CX-9). The remote start is by the Mazda App, as before. For the heating or cooling, our Salesman stated to set the controls before you get out and turn the car off. So for winter, if you set the Defrost and highest temp, it will heat up the interior as the Defrost works on the air-conditioning system rather than the hot water from the radiator. I have a 2018 Nissan Altima with remote start, and that system automatically adjusts the temperature no matter what you had it set for when you get out and turn the car off. That system actually also runs in the defrost mode, and heats up the car in a few minutes. So, I have not tried what the Salesman told us for the CX-9 remote starting, but it should work as he says. So you just have to remember to set it in Defrost and high temperature / fan before leaving the car. I agree with you on plenty of torque and great ride. This is actually our third CX-9. Had a 2008 Grand Touring, 2017 Touring, and now the 2021 Signature. Also have a 2017 CX-5. Mazda’s are great driving and trouble free vehicles.

@@belaircarguy thanks for the info. I’ve tried setting the defrost and it does help. Would prefer if worked like my Cadillac or Chevy truck. Just remotely start and the system decides. Great car and under appreciated. I want to test drive the Atlas Cross Sport before I decide this spring.

What drives like a smaller nimble car, CX-9 (200 inches long) OR Highlander, Pilot, Telluride, Atlas (~195 inches long) ??
@PrimeAutotainment3 жыл бұрын
They all still feel fairly large, depending what you’re used to. The CX-9 handles the best or feels the best IMO, next I would say Highlander, but the Pilot and Atlas have lighter steering that makes it feel nimble even though they’re not small. Telluride has the most body lean in my opinion but isn’t a bad handler. Tough to compare, you’d want to get behind the wheel of each

I would say the Highlander for family use even though it’s smaller dimensionally, but it’s pretty practical inside and the cargo space is better. Features are pretty similar but the CX-9 typically offers a bit more for the price. Both drive very nice. I prefer the CX-9 transmission but the Highlander engine. You’ll definitely have to get into both and see which one feels right for ya 👍. If I was buying one of those today, it would be Highlander.

I love Mazda...my next purchase will be one of their fine autos. But, the CX-9 is way too pricey especially at the Signature level. I will most likely purchase towards the end of the year when I can "deal", hopefully with appropriate financing. Stay tuned. Need to drive the non-turbo to see if there is enough power. Not a fan of turbos.
@waltercox48633 жыл бұрын
Well, Peter, the turbo is standard. I understand your reluctance, as I've owned cars before that had turbo lag - this one does not. Not even a little. From 2100 rpm on, that 300+ foot pounds of torque is instantly on tap - you will never guess it's a turbo and there's zero turbo whine either!
@peterjordan27383 жыл бұрын
@@waltercox4863 Thanks Walter for the comments on the Mazda turbo. Is it fair to say that the CX-5 and the 3 sedan (both with turbos) would exhibit the same characteristics of the CX-9 turbo? Just found out today that Mazda will not offer the CX-3 or the Mazda 6 for 2022. The new 6 down the road will be a RWD auto. I am concerned that Mazda wants to go upscale and their prices will be reflective of that.

No power steering wheel tilting - does not need it. Car makers are trying to turn everything electronic when all it does is make the price go up higher. Tilt the steering wheel yourself, somethings needs to be up to the driver to do. And definitely the ideal of a heated steering wheel ...come on now, you really don't need that crap. I have a '21 CX9 GT and it does have remote start, but you have to use an app on your phone ... I'd prefer mine on the fob, but in fairness to Mazda, the app has other features as well like informing you that your doors are unlocked, when you need service or when the tailgate is open. So you can lock/unlock doors, remote start when you are beyond the range of the fob. So I can see why they went to the phone app. Also, most other manufacturers are moving to the phone app as well.

Looking for BIG midsize 3 row SUV? At 199" in length only the Dodge Durango and Chevy Traverse are larger than the CX-9. Want that overall size combined with the least interior passenger and cargo space in the category? In fact, the CX-9 has less cargo space than a Honda CR-V and less overall passenger room than a KIA Sorento that's 10" shorter than the Mazda. If that's the combination you're looking for in a midsize 3 row SUV the CX-9 is ideal. Yup, here I am again with a comment to throw cold water on a CX-9 review. But I'm not alone. The CX-9 is not only the worst selling mainstream midsize 3 row SUV in the marketplace by a wide margin, it's outsold by thousands of units by several luxury SUVs (e.g. Acura MDX, Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Volvo XC90.) Wonder why? The answers aren't hard to find. With only minimal updates since 2017 the CX-9 is in desperate need of a generational update. Playing catch up in terms of a infotainment screen doesn't come close to cutting it. The world has moved on.

@@user-zb7tg5hi3t Just providing a corrective to the usual review of the CX-9. The fact that I've owned 4 Mazdas over the years suggests I like the brand but as the weak sales indicate the CX-9 is simply not a strong contender in the midsize 3 row SUV category.
