Last year we reviewed the 2020 Moomba Kaiyen with Flow 3.0. When we did we didn't save all of our settings information and couldn't answer many questions. So we went out again, on the 2021 this time and took great notes and share all of our details with you. We give you all of the settings you need to make this same great wave!

I've seen your other video on where to put your lead. Also noticed on the Mondo video you needed to add the lead to the front of the boat to maximize your ballast while keeping the pitch. On the Kaiyen in your setup for this video did you need to place more of the lead up front or in the back? I do understand it might depend on where passengers are sitting. Ordered a Kaiyen and will take delivery in the spring. Thanks

What kind of rpms and fuel burn with the boat plowing like that? Love the video!

This boat and the boats with 400 motors, probably in the range of 4-6 GPH and 3600 RPM or so while surfing. We didn't measure specifically, but that is a good estimate from experience.

It is nuts to see at that pitch how much water is being displaced just at the bow of the boat..I just got a new to us boat ended up with a 04 malibu vlx (I know not ideal in anyway) this winter I’m going to pull at the factory tanks out and add around 1000lbs in the lockers 750+ in the bow and as much as I can fix it the ski locker and then add lead to be able to move around where needed to get my pitch and roll down where I need it to be

That sounds like a fun project. I would be interested, and probably others as well, as to what you find your best pitch/setup to be. Share it when you have it, with some video.

I too was surprised to see that much white water coming off the bow, other than the inefficiency of the hull design that leads to that, I'm not sure if there are any real negative effects from it, I guess you'd have to test drive the boat to see, but at this price point, I'd certainly be willing to overlook something like that :-) Thank you for wake9 for the great review, excellent overall camera angles and practical information are a refreshing change from the sales people and marketing types that are usually posting videos.

I don’t think that is a negative effect

I sure will plan to post the hole process I know there still a lot of people with these older Malibu’s.we went out this weekend and I’m still amazed on how much push it has now,I was able to pop out my sons old hl coax 4’4 I’m 180 and it had plenty of push for me to ride it behind the boat iv never been able to ride it behind any of our previous boats

Love your videos. I am currently trying to decide between mojo, Kaiyen or makai and a little curious on the max. Would replacing stock back bags with the Wakemakers bags do the same as the lead (though without the adjustability)?

Ballast is ballast. Lead, which is actually steel nowadays is great for 2 reasons. its more dense so takes up less space, and you can move it easily. But you can't use too much IMO. IMO, you need mostly water ballast and at least 500 lbs of lead to optimize your system.

I thought there wasn’t a mojo for 21. Thought they went down to just the Makai, Kaiyen, Craz, Max, and Mondo for their models. No more Helix or mojo

A little Wake9 advice? We are looking at either the 2021 Mondo or Kaiyen. I watched your great review of the Mondo and it appears to be awesome, but a little light in the bow. Does the slight addition in length of the Kaiyen allow for the 9.5% pitch sweet spot without the use of lead due to the slight shift forward in fulcrum? Our standard crew is only 5. Thanks!
@wake9tv
@wake9tv 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the extra length in the Kaiyen makes it easier. Between those two I would definitely choose the Kaiyen. Also the extra room is very helpful for comfort.

If I will be typically running a lighter crew, 2 adults and 3 kids, will the Kaiyen still perform well with less people weight? Is this one area the Mondo would shine more or would you still recommend the Kaiyen over the Mondo? When spending this kind of money, you might as well make the right choice once! Love your channel! Thanks!

@@randyl677 The Kaiyen will be fine, and like you said, its more balanced so it doesn't need so much weight up front. I would only get the mondo if you had a restriction that required you to have a 20' boat, in that case, it is amazing for a 20 foot boat. But if I don't have that restriction, I would def look at the Kaiyen over the mondo.

I was looking at the Makai or Max but you peaked my interest with this....What do i need to know comparing this to the max?
@wake9tv
@wake9tv 4 жыл бұрын
The max makes a good wave, but the Kaiyen is better I think. Its a really nice wave, its got more ballast, and the boat is more comfortable, has more amenities, in my opinion. If you need bigger, look at the Makai.

@@wake9tv Man you are awesome at replying!!! I really appreciate it. I only looked at the makai first because I wanted a smoother ride when on lake texoma (my previously tige r21 was ROUGHHH) WIth the added plus that people would be more comfortable on the makai.... BUT a clean wave with push is my top priority.
@wake9tv
@wake9tv 4 жыл бұрын
So the wave on the Makai is only a bit dirtier on the goofy side, but not much. You just have to list over a tad more on the makai for goofy. The makai makes a bigger wave than the kaiyen, and because its bigger you have more potential because you have more room for ballast. So between the kaiyen and the makai, just pick the one you can afford and that are the size you need, they are both great. I would be happy in either, but I would choose the Makai because I would want the extra room.

Can you go into the reasons why you would prefer the Kaiyen over the Max? The advantage seems to lean towards the Max in terms of hull depth, factory ballast, length, and people capacity? Wave size and length is definitely my priority over creature comforts and would not be opposed to adding additional ballast/lead to reach its full wave potential. Lastly, any plans on doing an in depth review of the Max?

Do you happen to know good settings to start for wakeboarding? Could you give me suggestions? I'm running 60% ballast all around and 22 mph and dont have plates adjusted at a certain degree. I Feel like my rope is too long. Where did you put the lead on this boat. Love the Kaiyen Thanks for the great video.

Great videos and love all of your videos - you do an amazing job! Curious of your opinion on what would be “too much” lead in a kaiyen? We currently have 700 lbs and have contemplated Upgrading to the wake maker makai bags or just adding an additional 500 lbs of lead. Boat is only used for surfing, we cruise on our older pontoon.
@wake9tv
@wake9tv Жыл бұрын
I think 500 is ok, if you watch the video we did on "where does the lead go", then you can use a few hundred pounds so that you can fill up your entire ballast and be at the right pitch.
