In 2017 we demoed the 2018 Supra SL and we were stunned by it. It was such a leap forward. The new swell surf system, the hull, autowake and ballast improvements, the wave was so clean and consistent on both sides. Then there was the power this wave had. The 2018 - 2021 Supra SL has become well known as one of the best wakesurf boats you can buy. Now we demo the next generation SL for 2022 and we felt like we did on that day. What you're explaining makes perfect sense: Being able to make use of your full ballast yields the best wave, given the desired pitch angle can be achieved. What I'm wondering though, what speaks against filling everything (front and back) to 100% and then using the surf tab to get your desired pitch?

it doesn't work, that is a very good question. I have answered before but probably several videos ago. First, you should use your wakeplate as little as possible. You want your boat to displace as much water as possible, so put the plate all the way up will help that boat suck down. If the plate is all the way up (which it is in our testing and surfing) then you can't raise it anymore to pitch up. If you want to pitch down, then you will be artificially LIFTING the back of the boat out of the water, preventing the hull from its full potential, of what it can displace. Make sense? Best wave, is to put your wake plate all the way up or in a neutral position depending on your boat. On the supra, that is all the way up. On some boats, you can't do that, because they have other issues and require the plate to give that downforce to clean up the wave, not good.

I am thinking about getting a 2020 Supra SA or a 2019 Malibu 23lsv. Are the ballast pumps always running in the supra due to auto wake and does that wear them? Also would like your opinion on the malibu. Awesome video!

They are not always on, and they are using the most bullet proof type of pump. I have put hundreds of hours on autowake in one season without issue. I would just keep extra impellers for the pumps, and have them changed out every 100 hours or so, or every season, whichever comes first.

plate 0, tabs were set to the default, its like 85 on one side and 95 on the other? don't remember, but def the default tab settings.

So that is plenty of lead for a monster wake. The pitch and roll should be about the SAME as this SL video, remember that it doesn't matter when you put the lead, what matters is the same pitch and roll and tab settings. About 9.5-10 degrees of pitch, 3-5 degrees of roll on the goofy side, and -1 - -2 degrees on regular, speed of 11.2-11.6.
