In this video we are unboxing and upgrading the new 2021 Ultegra by shimano. We are doing a 4 count nylon to bearing upgrade to turn this reel into a glorified Super Tuned Stradic with some of the features added to the new Ultegra. Did you take apart the oscillating paw ? Can a bearing be put there? Also for fresh water, the bail can accomodate 2 bearings without the bushings, etc. Theoretically, you can add 2 additional bearings in addition to the ones you added. Also the Complex XR F4 is noisier than I expected. Thanks, Doc

i took the bail out to clean the inside because sand got inside and when I took it apart there is a spring on the side without the line roller pop out where does it go? been looking for a video that shows how to fix or replace the bail for the ultegra but couldnt find any help!!!

What's the point of upgrading to ball bearings if you're gonna gum them up with grease? A tiny drop of oil is all you need to keep them running smooth.

Hey great vids enjoy them a lot. If you upgraded to Swiss ceramic bearings well there sick. I have them on my my.bike. Marketed by DT but made by Hugh but could be Boca. Bearings come in standard sizes so interchangeability is easy . Saw one test on a Islander Centerlpin reel spun forever. Just saying. Keep up good work

It just feels a tiny bit smoother and is a very slight upgrade and for a tiny bit of money if you like to tinker it’s worth it!

What's the difference between the "HG" model and the "FC" model of that reel? Anyway, is that Shimano reel grease good to be used for all of the internal parts of the reel and is good for other brands of reels as well?

I would like to ASSUME you would need whatever size reel you are trying to upgrade,per say like look up the replacement bearings for a 4000 Stradic if you are upgrading a 4000 Ultegra and so on.

I was going to get an FK but since people are asking the same as new,even with a new rendition of the Stradic out already,I am going to get an Ultegra 4000. Have you found any upgrades you can make to the new Nasci or Fuego LT ? So far for the Fuego all I see is the line roller bushing to bearing,and 2 bearings to the knob. But I am scared to open the reel and mess with it since its MagSealed.

Another difference is a C2000S Stradic FL is lighter compare to 20 Ultegra size 1000 Edit: I made a mistake Stradic FL C200S is 185g. 20 Ultegra 1000 is 180g.

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

This is not the correct way - metal plate immediatly after ball bearing (18:12). There must be a shim. And there is too much grease, man!

JUST DID THIS UPGRADE IN THE HANDLE KNOB ON MY NEW ULTEGRA.. BUT it doesnt fit... the bearings rae the same as lineroller bearings so i took from my vanford spareparts and one more exat same... used the same schim.. but when i tighten it it doesnt go as it shoulkd... bushings are more quiet. but i want bearings in the knob .. it had to much play but my ood its so much smoother tahn fucking overrated crapford

An Ultegra will never be a Stradic no matter how many bearings you put in it. The Stradic has a much stronger aluminum body. The Ultegra has a light body and a heavy rotor. If that was ideal that is how Snimano would have made the Sustain but it is just the opposite of the Ultegra. Instead the Sustain has an aluminum body and a light MGL rotor. Adding bearings to an Ultegra gives you something more along the lines of a sluggish Vanford with more startup inertia as the heavier rotor turns. I mean no disrespect but there are far more important differences between all Shimano reels than simply the number of bearings.
