I finally made it to a race in Fontana. It had been a while since I raced there. This was round #4 of the winter series.
The course had changed since the last time I was there. They can no longer do the long course that used to drop in the back and come around with a long flat section. So it's now a shorter more intense lap; Full attack everywhere no filler.
And oh boy, did Trey Jarno launched like a rocket at the start! Sam Brehm (race winner Pro Men) and Stuart Gonzalez (race winner Vet Pro) were able to stay with him. But I had to watch them fly away.
This was my first race with a dropper seat-post on my mountain bike. No, it's not worth it here but I wanted to get used to racing with one for later this year when I'll need one. With my Fox34 110mm and 2.3 tires, I really felt like I had too much bike there. I was tripping over myself on the technical climbs. It's a good thing the TIME pedals are bombproof because I had so many pedal strikes on the first lap while I was acclimating to all this. I think a second lap of practice before the race would have helped!
That made me want to go again. It's such a fun course with great people.
This Saturday is the final race of the Winter Series so don't miss out.
