Smart upgrades and I like how you shortened the stem to adjust for the new fork offset. A lot of people are trying offset aftermarket headsets and not adjusting the components to match the geo change... stem length, handlebar rise and sweep, and saddle position. They are all equally important to get that perfect fit when deviating from the stock set up.

Hello from Sweden! :) I really like your videos about the Stumpy! I have the exact same bike and have just ordered the Pike fork. But before ordering the Deluxe I wanted to ask you if you tuned it the same as the stock Dps? Is your Deluxe also “digressive/digressive”?
@ShaneScrimager
@ShaneScrimager Жыл бұрын
howdy @thompers79! my buddy has the same shock (trail tuned DPS) and added a spacer. said it took care of his bottom out issues and felt a better / progressive end cycle. he weights 40lbs less than me, i'm 190. the Deluxe holds more air for the same % sag. if i added a token to the Deluxe it may be perfect. i feel the Deluxe gives me more range in settings where the DPS was doing a great job - just at the top end of it's performance.

Hi! I have read now you are using the cascade link on the stumpy alloy, together with the Pike. How do you like the cascade link? Do you feel the higher progressivity? I have the same stumpy and sure the rear float dps travels a lot! Thanks for the reviews!
@ShaneScrimager
@ShaneScrimager Жыл бұрын
hi Canale! absolutely! i heard you are supposed to add air pressure when installing the Cascade Link. i didn't. 1st ride the Stumpy felt like my Enduro, a gravity bike and not a trail bike. i was running my compression in the - position. i clicked it two over to the + position and rode a 2nd hot lap. BOOM! bike felt great, responsive, lively. i was expecting a noticeable progression but my two big takeaways are - i now have a super capable trail bike with two more compression settings for big rowdy days where before i was at the end of the rear shocks duties and i do notice the brake bumps and washboards feel a little smoother. i'll dive in to a review soon. like and subscribe if you don't mind, appreciate it very much.

@@ShaneScrimager Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your new review. Funny to see that a company with so much research/development/desing like Specialized did not make the suspension link to get the max out of this bike!

Hey really great long term review video - helps heaps, what grips do you recommend for the stumpy comp alloy?
@ShaneScrimager

i like a bigger grip, no flex just a bigger circumference. i run Lizard Skins Logo Lock-On Grip on all my bikes.

Did you stick with the same size rear shock (eye to eye and stroke) that the original had? Thanks for the video! I have a 2021 base alloy and love it but definitely want to upgrade the x-fusion shock it came with and I’m a heavier rider at 200lbs. Looking for advice if I should keep it the same size for geometry.

what's up Drew! yes, same size (stroke / eye to eye) - but a better performing shock. i just added a Cascade Link, the bike is riding perfect now. i'll be uploading that video soon. always thankful for hitting the subscribe button!

I was wondering if something like this could be done! I have the same bike. I'm a heavier rider and I am currently running the fox34, I have not had major issues with it but I have three tokens in it and while it doesn't bottom out there is some flex when going off small jumps and hard braking. Did you have any issues with flex? If so, did the 35mm stanchions help with flexing? Any advice?
@ShaneScrimager
@ShaneScrimager 2 жыл бұрын
what's up Juan! absolutely helped. i was happy with the 34 but under fast bumpy braking the Fox 34 was trying to hold on. i know i was pushing it far, it handled it but just a little out of its intended use. i've had a Fox 36 and RS Lyrik, stiffness was there and the only real difference i noticed was the dampers and difference in ride. i wanted to keep the Stumpy as close to stock, that's why the 35mm over Fox's 36. it's a trail beast now, it rides better than my 160/150mm. but! Fox does not have the extended hub cups that RS uses, you'll need a swappable hub or new hub to switch over. i had swapped my Lyrik for a 38 so i had the right hub ready to go. on that note, there will be a 170/170mm Enduro review coming up! feeling covered with the Stumpy at 150/130mm and the Enduro at 170/170mm for everything bigger. have that review up soon.

one more in the works… we have a new trail, little faster - bigger sends. i just need a little more travel in the rear but want to keep the Stumpy’s character. still not an EVO but close. have a Cascade Link coming in. take it for a rip and review soon!

Hey I have this bike also, I got the green one and love it - was thinking on upgrading the front suspension as well with the new green Lyric what do you think? I am a lil heavier than you
@ShaneScrimager
@ShaneScrimager 2 жыл бұрын
what’s up Diego! is the Lyric a 160? it may change the geometry and steering a bit too much. it’ll feel sluggish and crappy in turns. the 150 Pike and 10 degree riser bar felt stock. but, a 160 with a flat riser? maybe???

I have a 2019 Stumpjumper alloy and thinking of buying a carbon frame, is it worth it? Thanks
@ShaneScrimager
@ShaneScrimager Жыл бұрын
in my honest opinion, no. i’m not a carbon fan. cracked my frame 3rd week riding my Enduro. feels like you can’t crash or throw your bike when needed. aluminum just lasts longer, takes a beating. i grew up riding bmx, it may be wired in me to have the option to throw the bike. not an option with carbon!!!

Why don’t you put a shock with piggyback? Did you tried the bike on a bike park? I was wondering about that 130mm rear travel… now I’m on previous stumpy with 150-140, but I’m looking for this one… 🤔
@ShaneScrimager

howdy Andrea! i ran the Super Deluxe on two 160mm bikes, loved it! trying something new i guess, wanted the upgrades close to stock. my buddy coiled his, loves it. yes! i’ve ridden it at two bike parks! smashed dual slaloms and medium jump lines. nothing helped casing the jumps but when i dialed in the lines, the stumpy absolutely ripped.

@@ShaneScrimager I’m on a 2020 stumpy, with 140 rear and 160 front. Do you think that with the new geo of 2021 model, I can pass over the travel reduction, for gnarly trail and some jump? Or I will loose the benefit from more travel ?
@ShaneScrimager
@ShaneScrimager Жыл бұрын
@@XqDezzy10 2020 to 2021 saw longer reaches and wheelbase with a little slacker head tube. night a day feel, i rode a 2020 - not the same bike. i beat up the stock 140 / 130 and it smashed through. check out the original review on the channel, there’s some super chunk sections in there. friends were on Enduros, and for that trail i have no problem holding pace. but, after 9 months or so, i’d did need just a bit more. i ride it the hardest trails in town with full confidence. but, i know where the limit is and fly just below. ride the same trails on my Enduro, and a whole new mindset opens. 150 vs 170. Enduro review almost wrapped up and ready to post. have to hit it hard one more time to answer some questions on tire choice and less than race pace riding!

Hi Shane, greeting from the UK. I’ve been wanting to try a 29er for a while now a like the look of the alloy Stumpy just would like it a bit better specced. If I could find a frame then I could build it up how I like, similar to yours but with XT brakes and drive chain but if I can’t I’d buy a standard bike and upgrade it, that way at least I’d have a bike to ride!
