Measuring the trunk opening from the ground doesn't provide an accurate measurement difference. You'd have to measure from the bottom of the trunk opening to the top. Using the ground takes into account the vehicle stance which may be different on a model 3 with 19" low-profile tires and, potentially, older suspension that's sitting lower.

I spent a lot of time working out the kinks on my 3 so I hate to think of going through it all again. I was disappointed to hear the noise was not any better. I've taken all my door panels off and adjusted the windows to where the wind noise is pretty well minimized. I've noticed road noise is dependent on the road surface and the 3 is highly susceptible to cross winds for increased wind noise. Heated steering wheel is nice in our other cars, but don't miss it as much as I thought I would in the Tesla.

#22 Worth noting: The heat pump in Model 3 is implemented a little bit differently than in the competition. It does not leech heat from the environment directly, but from the battery (through the coolant). That means you’re cooling your battery by heating up your cabin. Under normal driving conditions, that is fine, as the battery will almost always be warmer than the environment, but when the car is still cold, you’re cooling your battery even further, reducing performance until it warms up. Since the battery is warmed up by heating up the motor stators (resistive heating), that means that when it’s very cold, or the car wasn’t preheated, you’re essentially heating the cabin with resistive heating.

Its known as acoustic glass, for thermal properties you need a sealed air gap between the panes of glass filled with an inert gas.

That is your opinion. But the facts are the double pane window is there for acoustic reasons, not to improve heat retention. If they actually cared about heat retention (they don't) they would not use such a large amount of glass on the roof.

#4. - I changed the spring in the locking mechanism in my 2018 M3 and the hood is way easier to close now. I also replaced the struts so it lifts automatically.

Good comparison, you can tell it's from a previous year model 3 owner by the specific differences pointed out..

I have a 2019 Model 3. The feature I want most from the 2021 is the USB port in the glove box... and the 350 miles of range would nice too.
@shaank18753 жыл бұрын
Would you say these upgrades are worth selling your 2019 model 3 and purchasing the new one?
@ethanBmartin3 жыл бұрын
@@shaank1875 Hmm. Well, I paid $6k for FSD. It's $4k more now. Then there's depreciation. I'd get another 30 miles of EPA range, better USB ports, a more traditional center console, power trunk lift (which may also result in strangely larger panel gaps above the trunk), and like 1/5th of a second of 0-60. I don't think that all adds up to me upgrading. Oooh, but that pedestrian noisemaker! Now it's tempting.

I don't think the model 3 will have heated steering wheel. yes, it has it built in, but thats because the model Y has a heated steering wheel, and its the same wheel as on the model 3. so instead of tesla making two SKU's of the steering wheel, they make one. but software limit one car model.
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney3 жыл бұрын
You're likely right - for now. But they're definitely going to add it at some point.

Thanks Tom for making this 😊. Have you seen the new change they are making for China to the 3 and the Y (heated steering wheel, door trim, hepa air filters, etc)?
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm hoping my new car does have the heated steering wheel, it just cannot be activated yet. But we just don't know.
@princesses29094 жыл бұрын
@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney only $1k to activate it 😂

The noise problem is because of the frameless windows, they are just glass pressed against rubber, different from most cars where the frame contains 2 or even 3 layers of rubber contacting the car structure. When driving, air bleeds through these contact of glass and rubber and creates noise, so the problem is in this part, not in the glass, then the double pane glass won't make much of a difference.

What happens when you ask the older model 3 to turn on the heated steering wheel? Does it give you the same response the 2021 gives you?

Yes, so I'm thinking I was mistaken about it. See the edited description above.

@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney I like the way you think, Tom! Enjoy the Model3. I'm envious... I own two BMW ICE vehicles but I'm getting more excited about owning an EV. For me, it's all about the handling slightly above looks and finish quality. At my house I have 100Amps available just for my garage(!) so charging will not be an issue. Your EVSE videos provide excellent feedback on the various options for home charging. Keep up the great content!

Heat pumps are indeed much more efficient than resistive heating down to about -5 C. In truly cold environments, however, like much of Canada in winter when ambient temperatures are -20 C or colder, heat pumps on their own struggle to provide adequate warmth and their relative advantage in efficiency diminishes substantially. Bjorn Nyland might make this a subject of one of his informative videos.
@ohger12 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, but I thought I read that Tesla is scavenging heat from the motors to assist the heat pump. Straight air-air heat pumps really suffer as temperatures drop, so it would be interesting to see how many BTUs they can get out of the drive system.

Very cool, im waiting until they roll out the new Tesla's with the once piece metal injection, built in AMD hardware for gaming and refine the panel gaps before I pick one up.
