2021 Toyota Avalon TRD HOT TAKE: Overpromising and Underdelivering

Yeah, the Toyota Avalon looks fantastic in TRD trim, but unfortunately, the 2021 Toyota Avalon TRD is mostly just for looks and doesn't do much to back up its stellar appearance. Make no mistake: it's a darn good looking ride, but its performance leaves much to be desired. Looks like I have an answer to my question of whether or not the TRD splits the difference between the luxury focused Toyota Avalon

I've driven multiple trim levels of the 2021 Avalon. For me, The TRD was perfect. I'm tall and I was looking for a large, reliable, comfortable car that would provide a bit more handling precision, and stability as apposed to my compact SUV. This car was perfect for me. In my opinion, performance is not only about horsepower. I'm glad they didn't do anything to that engine. That car has no problem getting up to speed. I don't drive like a maniac and don't intend to push this car hard, but the increased torsional rigidity from the bracing, the lower center of gravity, and the beefed up breaks makes my "real world driving" effortless. To me, it's a big comfortable car with good power, better handling, and better breaking. That's exactly what I wanted. To each his own.

I love my TRD. But I'm also used to basic 4 cylinder camry's and accords. I finally wanted something that didn't scream suburban dad but still practical enough to do suburban dad shit. It has a fraudulent exhaust tone that makes it sound like a baby Dodge viper which I find delightfully hilarious.. But tbh, if I don't win a drag race against an M3 on the way to Stop and Shop I'm more than good. This joint checks enough boxes for me to be extremely happy with my purchase.

Thanks so much! I really like the RAV4 Prime. Got that review incoming, but I had it for a week and barely used any fuel. Also, don't sleep on the all new Buick Envision. Can't talk about it until next week, but it's great. If you want a big FWD/AWD luxury sedan, the ES F Sport is really good, but I've heard good things about the Acura TLX. Jax you got a way with words. Love it. Very good review. Your point on the Avalon TRD is clear. It all looks and no cook. To bad Toyota didn't go all in. Though I think they would have crossed the thin line of being better than the ES. As is it seems one should skip the TRD and go with the regular Avalon or go for the ES 350 with the F sport Pkg unless you ready got to have that TRD badge and the cool front end.

True, but you can't get the awesome 12 inch infotainment screen or Mark Levinson audio in the Avalon, so that could've kept them separate. Avalon could've been the rowdier of the two, a little sharper maybe. Missed opportunity for sure. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻
