I get tired of people saying these cars are for commuters or for someone's first car. I just turned 50 and love my Corolla. It's reliable and I'm not car poor. Even if I could afford a $40,000 SUV, I would still pick the Corolla. If I wanted something with a little more oomph I would get a Kia Forte GT. I don't want a SUV, or even a larger car like a Camry. Some of us are fine looking uncool in our so called first, commuter car.

Yes I have 2017 SE with the Manual transmission. Getting 28.5MPG City. I always check my fuel by using the same pump and when it pops off divided the miles driven by gallons replaced method.

Just finished a 700+ mile week in a rented 2021 Sentra SV and I am impressed by this car. I am a Mini Cooper enthusiastic with many days at the track with my 6spd manual Cooper S. Was expecting this rental to be a dog. WRONG! This beauty took me down the brutal length of the Cal I-5 through the agricultural heart of Calif: semi's, trucks, flatbeds. The CVT tranny is slick, shifts are smooth and quick and the 4 cyl. engine is happy to rev to redline. Moves out smartly when you goose it. I thought it was a turbo! Fooled me. Great, supple suspension, excellent handling, all-around A+ for highway manners and in the twisties. Even in the SV config, cabin feels upscale. Materials rival the BMW-made Mini Cooper. Don't think Corolla can match this.

I drive a 2020 a Corolla SE in the same color blue. I purchased it in sept 2020 and it was prior to the car shortage. After haggled I was able to get the SE for just under 20k out the door. For that price I’d take it all day over Sentra only because I feel t will last longer and it felt more solid over bumps and rough roads. CVT is fine, 42 MPG is easy to get at 75mph or under. Would get manual if not in city. I must give the Sentra the interior win by far.

I bought the same in Blue Crush Metallic. Sure its not the fastest car but the manual really wakes up the new 2.0 and it is probably the best handling Corolla to date. The cornering assist is absolutely amazing if you push the car enough. Almost no understeer. Just needs better tires from the factory.

Unless someone is going to buy a Corolla (or any car for that matter) brand new and keep it 10+ years, or buy it 10+ years old second-hand, then projected reliability shouldn't be a deciding factor at all. Never understood new car buyers who make purchases based mainly on a perceived reliability advantage, who don't keep the car long enough for reliability to even come into play (which accounts for many new car buyers).

Although unless my choices were between a new Camry and whatever the worst vehicle in the segment is for retaining resale value (a Camry versus a Malibu for example), then I still couldn't imagine wanting to put up with a lackluster vehicle simply to potentially have a couple thousand bucks extra in my pocket 5-7 years down the road when it's time to sell or trade. I guess that's a personal opinion though.

Just spent a week in a brand new Sentra with 700 miles on the ODO in Florida. It had a nice ride, and handled pretty well, but the engine felt weak, and the road noise on the highway was deafening. It felt like a design from 15 years ago. PS: a CVT like this is why people hate CVTs. PS: the interior on the base level does not look like the example in this vid, nor does the entry-level touch screen which was much smaller, not a glass front, but cheap plastic, and nowhere near as bright and clear. It's nice there was a touch screen and connectivity at all, but it looked like a cheap Kindle from five years ago and there was only ONE USB port and nothing else in the entire car. Not sold on Nissan's value for the money.

Everyone's perception of value is different, and it seems yours (and my own lol) places a large factor on the power available. But, at less than $26k loaded and very nice interior for the class, the Sentra definitely has a value proposition.

​@@dedreandixon4620 I would agree that there is a generation out there that may never know the difference because it's their first experience with a car, but it's not about enthusiasm, it's about effortless operation; a sense of positive motion without frustration. You couldn't get away with light throttle in the Sentra, it's that incredibly slow off the line. I had to mash the pedal to the floor and redline it in order to get the transmission to simulate gear changes, and even then they were mushy weak transitions. If not provoked like that, the CVT just hung out in one droning speed like CVTs of yore. I mean, Nissan was probably the first company that made CVTs mainstream, they had the most experience in their products and yet, the rest of the industry who utilizes CVTs seems to have beat them at their own game. I've driven a Corolla with a CVT up the entire California coast, and I never felt wanting for better forward motion. For an economy car, it satisfied the general sense of speed in its category. And that wasn't even at sea level like I was in Florida no less.

I'm just asking in general because their new cars seem greatly improved and I'm hoping for their sake they have worked out the CVT kinks. I don't think it should automatically be assumed that the newer ones will have the same amount of problems if any. If that's the case everyone should still be ragging on Honda transmissions since they went through a period of issues with their automatic transmissions. Seems people forget things can actually change.

At 11:30 I want to say that I personally prefer the Nissans button feature, because I can press it once and it will open the drivers door, when I press it twice it will open all of the cars doors. Which Toyota does not. With Toyota you have to use the key fob to unlock all of the doors at once, unless you use the interior buttons after opening your drivers door and having your passengers wait on you while you do that.

I've had 4 Corollas since 2009. My first was a 2009 and I bought it because I was in a bad financial position and I needed cheap, reliable transport. Then I leased a 2015 and 2017 model, both great cars. I bought a 2023 Corolla SE 3 weeks ago, but someone hit me 2 weeks ago so I ended up with a Sentra as a rental. I don't like the way the Sentra drives. The steering feedback is off-putting, the engine noise is very loud and I wasn't impressed with the overall quality. Is my Corolla perfect? Nope. It's gutless on the freeway, the CVT is...well, it's better than they used to be but it's still bad and the lack of storage spaces is a bummer. But I love how it drives, it's very comfortable and like every other Toyota, they design it so stuff is where you'd expect it to be. Reliable, dependable and familiar.

Both cars look good but to me the Sentra takes the nod. The Corolla is a bit overstyled. The Sentra's lines are much cleaner and blend in well. The interior looks much more upscale as well, a departure from past Sentras. The Corolla's interior looks amazingly horrible. I only wish they gave the Sentra more than 149 hp. I think 180 hp would be perfect.

For starters..the CVT in the Corolla will last 100x longer than the one in the Sentra.

@@DeadofWinter321 Yeah I bought it brand new and I ended up totaling it after two years. Replaced it with a 2014 Mazda 3 which I still drive. Have 130,000 miles and it’s still on the original 6 speed Automatic transmission and Drives way better than the Sentra

The Corolla looks nothing like the Camry or Avalon. The Sentra looks like a mini Altima and Maxima. So look wise I would pick the Corolla. For reliability, I would still pick the Toyota. Nissan is just done!

I’m buying a 2022 Sentra sr from Canada and having it imported to the states. Nissan Canada offers the Sentra with a 6 speed manual. Currently own a 2018 Sentra SV. No issues whatsoever.

If I hear "...this is soft-touch material..." one more time I'm going to scream. The fact is, in economy cars, you want practicality. That means easy to clean, long lasting materials. This means you want hard surfaces on top of the dash and on top of the car doors where you don't touch. You also want incandescent signal/marker lights that are long lasting, cheap and easy to change yourself. And praise the good Lord to grant wisdom to car manufacturers to stop putting carpet into cars. Do you ever put carpet in the mud room or in the vestibule? So why do you put carpet in car floor? One more thing: You want smaller rim sizes with taller tires for better comfort and cheaper tires. Mr. Bey, please give a thought to us practical minded sorts.

I really want to know the reasoning for Nissan removing the LED headlights from the SV Premium package for 2021 (2020MY included LEDs in the Premium Pack.). Such a weird decision and one that kinda reduces the car's appeal. The LEDs make the front end look so much nicer and more... premium. Overall, the new Sentra, and Rogue for that matter, really remind me of the feeling that my mom's first 96 or 97 Maxima gave me... It just felt like more car for what you pay for. I'm really hoping they have worked out the kinks of the CVT. If so, these new cars can do wonders to improve their rep. I REALLY cannot believe Toyota doesn't get more flack for their infotainment... The graphics look rudimentary and the screen design looks like a premium 90's boombox with a CD and cassette player... their interiors are lacking but... they're Toyota.

Because Toyota is sticking true to reliability over time those components will still work they put their money in refining the car over and over. And they can do that where as Nissan doesn’t have the financial backing like Toyota so put money in the interior and the other stuff like powertain the skimp on

Rather pointless exercise; if you want one that's going to be durable, reliable and have some resale value, you want the Toyota. If on the other hand you have lousy credit; don't care about the future and are generally bad at making decisions; then the Nissan is for you

I’ve noticed that from day one. It’s weird how they cheapened out there, they could’ve just swapped the lights to LEDs that the SR without the premium package uses

The last generation Corolla is better than the current one. The dashboard juts out making for difficult entry. The seats are huge and bloated, and lower to the floor than before. The door panels are also too thick. The interior went from roomy and comfortable to cramped and uncomfortable. The radio is in the line of vision because of the low seating position. The trunk is also smaller than before. Other than sporty styling, I think the previous one is better. Toyota had to recall the current generation for early CVT failures, which was odd as the previous generation had a CVT in LE and upper trims with no problems. The 2021 Versa rental I have is having issues with its CVT. It sometimes goes into disconnect mode at stop signs and then slams into "gear" and is VERY sluggish and slipping when taking off. Other times it acts PERFECTLY, with simulated shifts and no slipping. I have rented 5 of these new style Versas, this being the highest mileage one...30k. Was strongly considering buying one...but very concerned the CVT issues continue.

Nissan has best discounts overall, this sv with premium package Sentra cost around 22500 at my local dealership, however they can even go lower than that! I think for 22k it’s solid choice!

I'm one of those that won't consider an SUV. So I bought a sedan. If they eventually go away completely, I'll get an SUV then. As for these, I've had two Corollas in the past, but I think the Sentra looks better inside and out.
