I highly recommend the new Sienna, personally. We sprang for the awd, which was a literal lifesaver during this past awful northeast winter. For those who hate driving minivans like I do, know that this one drives more like a sedan than any other minivan I’ve driven, and the center console adds to that experience. It’s still a minivan, but one you’re happy to be in

I’ve had my 2021 Sienna LE AWD for a month and love it! I’ve been driving a Prius for 14 years prior. The upgrade in size is to serve as a personal/commercial shuttle van for guests. It is fun to drive and since my frame of reference is a Prius, the way it handles feels like home. And hey, if the business doesn’t pan out I could use it as my home! Kidding...sort of!
@rightlanehog31513 жыл бұрын
I think you made a great choice. You now have a far more sophisticated suspension system than an old Prius and AWD to increase your grip. When it comes to car payments and value you certainly chose the right trim level. LEss is more.

Ok bought one on March 1st just did the 5k service today and did an oil change, yes I know it supposed to be 10k but I'm old school get those metal shavings out lol, blah only cost 55 bucks. First minivan and first hybrid, engine is noisy and the van thing is huge lol, I have gotten to the engine noise now and parking not an issue anymore. I got the xle with the nav and jbl package it does crank when the family isn't it it hahaha. Wife calls it the sleeper van cause in 5min on the highway the kid is out cold woot, I got the 7 seater because the 2nd row track is on the outside of the wheel well so it goes a lot further back then the 8 seater, my son is 6' 1 and he doesn't even come close to reaching the front seats! Oh getting an average of 34.5 mpg, brother got one a week before me and that cheap bast$%# is getting 38-40, surprisingly it moves better than I thought it would and you have to keep checking the speed or you will doing 80 easily, yeah its that smooth. I love it and getting my wheelchair lift in next week, ramp stuff sucks hahah. Only regret would be not having the digital rear view mirror but think that's only on the Xse and up.

Yes, from experience -- my wife and I have had a full-size pickup, Jeep Grand Cherokee and van, all three for more than 20 years. The lower "lift-over" height of the van has been a great feature for both cargo and people. We often call our van our "covered pickup". Everything from lawn fertilizer to furniture. We often have the seats removed in rows two and three to carry stuff. I'll have to ponder whether non-removable row-two seats would work for us. Stunningly good city mpg.
@mindspinn3113 жыл бұрын
This is exactly the van I would to buy for road trips, avoiding flying when I can, and camping, no kids required. The hybrid drive being standard was the right move. Van life has become super popular in the age of COVID-19, but most of them aren’t that good to drive, are expensive for a bare bones cargo van, and have pretty terrible fuel economy.
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec3 жыл бұрын
Haha, editing in final cut pro on the entertainment system. Nice one Tom :) Vans are fantastic. We have one and couldn't live without it. It makes life with our four kids much easier. Think of the added space and convenience as grease between gears: everything is smoother, there is less friction. Top tip: you get the same space and comfort with the base model. No need to go for the $60,000 model.
@Gilamath.3 жыл бұрын
Lemme tell ya, though, with this van, there actually are good reasons to splurge if you can. The 360 camera is really important, especially if you want to park this van in the city: totally doable with the camera, really nerve wracking to do so without. The van becomes a daily driver at that point. The upgraded seats are really, really nice to have. the extra safety features are always useful. Then there are the little things, like the hands-free tailgate and doors The base LE is a great value, but the Platinum is a great vehicle to own. Depending on the situation, there are definitely people I would recommend the Platinum to over the base model

The mileage improvements for the hybrid are exciting. I'd be in the market for one today except for one huge problem, the 2nd row seats are not removable. That alone is a complete deal killer with this van as the utility is severely compromised. The van I get absolutely must be able to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood or drywall and I'm also going to use it as a mini-camper on a regular basis. Both require that the 2nd row seats be easily removed and re-installed.

We're not a van fam, but during the airbag recall, we had a Chrysler T&C (previous gen) for a while and then had a Ford TransitConnect. While the Chrysler was awful to drive, it was very useful. The Ford TransitConnect was MUCH better to drive. You could tell it had the Focus underpinnings. The Ford also had much more supportive seating than the Chrysler. I take an annual golf trip and I can get all 4 guys in comfortably, 4 golf bags, all our luggage and a large cooler as well. My lease is up on my Pacifica and I’ve already preordered my Sienna. The gas mileage and AWD was just too good to keep me in the Pacifica even though they do offer the same options. The turning point was the loss of the Stow n Go seating in the hybrid Pacifica and I do prefer the exterior styling of the Sienna. Great video!

Quite a surprise at 7AM to see you dressed identically to me, Tom. :) The new Sienna is what I'd expect from Toyota: well thought out, comfortable, and economical to own. It will surely reverse the Sienna's slide in sales (down 42% in 2020). With the "rest in peace" tombstone planted over the grave of the Dodge Caravan there are only four vehicles left in the mainstream consumer van marketplace in the US. The fourth place KIA Carnival (nee Sedona) is greatly improved and KIA hopes its SUVish looks will improve its sales but with neither AWD nor a hybrid power train the fact that KIA calls it an MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) rather than a van is unlikely to change its also ran status. Honda has the same problem with the Odyssey having dropped behind the Pacifica in 2020 sales but brand loyalty may allow it to retain its second place status. The question is whether the Sienna can reverse its slide in sales (down 42% in 2020) to capture second or even first place in an ever shrinking market. The comment that female consumers killed the van marketplace and boosted SUVs is on point. My wife is one of the assassins. When we replaced our much loved Saab wagon in 2013 I suggested we take a look at a minivan. (We had owned an AWD Mazda van in the early 90's.) My wife would have none of it. Not only did she not appreciate being pigeonholed as a "soccer mom", she was tired of being hemmed in by tall SUVs on all sides in Seattle traffic. As a defensive measure she wanted an elevated driver seat. And an SUV presented an image of safety with its more rugged looks. The vehicle was her daily driver so she got to make the call. She opted for a KIA Sorento. In 2018 we purchased another Sorento as our daughter neared getting her license.

It was only much later (once kid #4 was on the way) that we got one, though. That brings up the main weird hangup people seem to have: insist they're going to need a huge vehicle when they have their first child. It's completely unnecessary and bizarre. Our family vehicle was a compact sedan with three carseats side-by-side across the backseat. Plenty of trunk space for strollers, floor space for diaper bags, etc.

If you can't take an RV on a road trip, Minivan is by far and away the next best thing. I have memories of setting pillows on the floor of the 2nd/3rd row passageway (2nd row was a bench) and using it as a makeshift bed. Likewise for when we upgraded to a 2nd gen Honda Odyssey and we could fold the 3rd row flat and recline the captains' chairs a pretty respectable way back, undoubtedly safer than the youth solution as you could still be belted in this position lol. For the enthusiast, a minivan also virtually negates all need for your weekend ride to have any practicality whatsoever. And for a motorcyclist, being able to rescue a stranded bike in a pinch is invaluable Minivans are great

We have a Sienna limited. Average 30.9 mpg, front seats for shorter people are just okay - no tilling front down or back of seat up, 12v plug is impossible to reach when driving, for shorter people many of the center screen buttons are difficult to reach, glare on center screen can make viewing difficult as does polarized sun classes- a mat finish would be nice, the manual can be a challenge to find things quickly - we spent several hours trying to figure out how some things work (emails to Toyota were answered by a computer and had no clue how to find the info). I have heard some people found the front seats of other vans much better and bought that van. Handling and ride is very good. There is some engine noise but not bad. Dash in front of driver has lots of info and can be difficult to sort out what you want to see. Unless one turns off the front senses they will loudly yell at you in a car wash. For my money if the front seats were better the 2021 Sienna be a big winner. On a 5 point scale the front seats get a 2+.
