I owned a truck my entire life. I swapped over to the 2022 Sienna and I am never going back. I'm a minivan dad for life now. It is so functional and practical that it brings back the joy of going out for a drive. The tech, aesthetics and features makes me feel like I am piloting a spaceship. Simply amazing.

@@DK-bm5rg Agreed, I'm thinking of ditching the 1/2 ton pickup and getting a sienna, my wife thinks I'll regret it but I don't. Tired of 116-19 mpg when i could get upper 20s or low 30s mpg. I am concerned about pulling a boat out of the water (boat launch) and wheel slippage if it has fwd, may have to opt for awd.

Those who have a family of four or more who say they "wouldn't be caught dead" in a minivan are missing out on how much convenience that minivans offer. The Sienna especially. We own a 2021 Sienna LE and love it (especially the MPG).
@bradcdavis00

I bought my 2015 Sienna AWD mainly so that I could use it to camp INSIDE of. I built a simple bed platform and some storage capability for it. I am one of those folks that raised my van for just a bit of added clearance while traversing forest service roads. Also, I plan to add +1 or +2 sized tires when the current oem sized tires wear out. Yes, I know that that this is not a TRD vehicle and would never treat it as such. But I have come across deep holes and very rocky roads while climbing some forest service roads and have come to appreciate the added clearance. The key is to take it very S-L-O-W-L-Y and you will not have a problem. I agree with you that mini vans are very functional and versatile. When I help someone move their stuff, out goes my camping gear and in goes their stuff. When the grand kids come to visit, out goes the camping gear and in goes all the seating. Sienna’s are fantastically versatile vehicles. While I generally can eek out 25-27 mpg on the highway (if I do not go over 65mph and drive it like I do my Prius V), it does not compare to a Hybrids mpg. I would love to own a Woodland but just cannot justify the cost given that I own a Gen3 Sienna and don’t drive it all that much. I did just get back from a 4500-mile trip to South Dakota (what an awesome place) and was maintaining about 25 mpg. I’m all for functional vehicles, high horsepower and a raspy exhaust note don’t do anything for me (like it did when I was in high school). Its all functionality and reliability for me. I would add high mpg to that list if I owned the Sienna Hybrid. Your review was very good and informative. I enjoyed your commentary and nodded my head when you mentioned something to the effect of “why buy a vehicle rated for 1% or less of the driving style you will mostly use if for”. This is another well done video and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the KZbin world.

I fully believe that a minivan is the most practical, functional and comfortable vehicle that you can own. All the SUV people are just sheep that think they are too cool for a minivan. Thanks for the details on the Woodland Edition Sienna!! My wife and I are on our 2nd minivan, that we got as our 2nd son was heading to college. MVs ride nice, they can dispatch hauling for our home with EASE. Just plain comfortable on a trip and decent mpg. We considered an SUV, but our MV just gets all the jobs and travel done excellently! On recent Sienna, FIRST THING I noticed was the lack of any protection for the liftgate. A real shame for the design; total show stopper for us. Hope Toyota reworks that to protect the liftgate better. Drivers aren’t getting more careful. A lot of folks follow close …. Thanks again!!

'22 XLE FWD owner and rideshare driver here. I've covered 15,000 miles so far. I feel like the Woodland wouldn't scrape where my XLE does when pulling into/out of steep driveways. Acceleration is adequate. AWD isn't really needed for me, but I wonder if that extra electric motor would make it just a bit faster. I bought this car for the exact reasons you mentioned - practicality. From one passenger to 7 with luggage, the Sienna does it all and nobody's cramped. You didn't even mention how tight the turn circle is, but another huge pro is that you can turn it around in nothing! My biggest problem with the Sienna is that I feel they could have made it so much better. Just 20HP more from the electric motors would get it up hills where the gas engine comes on at the very top. 20% higher battery capacity and a better EV mode. Electric heater that provides consistent heat rather than using engine coolant. It's a big van with a lot of space inside and the heat can really be inadequate on cold days. Lastly, the interior feels so flimsy. Push on the center console. It flexes easily and visibly. On mine, there's a panel on the bottom right side spoke of the steering wheel that I can push and flex and it makes a loud snap. The panels on top of the gauges don't fit very tightly. I can go on and on. I just wish they'd improve build quality.

I have had 3 "mini" vans, 1995 Nissan Quest, 2004 Nissan Quest, 2015 Toyota Sienna. Each newer one was bigger than the last. My Sienna has been wonderful. Get about 25-27 mpg highway, regardless of load, and 19-20 city, including long idles in carpool lines(weather seldom allows much sitting with max AC blowing). The V-6 has pep for sure, but it's not a race car. I have generally kept my vans 10 years before looking for another. The Sienna, at 150,000, has nearly 20,000 more miles at only 7 years that the last Quest at 10 and zero problems, whereas the Quest was truly on its last leg, that I may go longer than the regular 10, good Lord willing. I would like to see how the Hybrid Siennas shake out over the next few years before looking at replacing it with one. The ability to take the dogs, kids, grandkids, and now great grands, on roadtrips has made my "minis" great buys. I am not sure that the Woodlands trim would be my pick, but that is what they make test drives for and wives that make the final pick of the family transport.😉

Thanks for the great videos. I've had the 2021 Sienna XSE (hybrid) for 8 mths ... 25000km/16000miles so far and loving it. I've had gas mini vans for couple decades, tow 2000 lb tent trailer and 5 people, dog and camping gear. Live in Atlantic Canada, big hills (not true mountains anymore). Don't push loaded vehicle to max going up hills, but never had issues with power. I do identical driving with Sienna hybrid and I can't tell the difference in power from a gas v6 3.5liter minivan. I usually counted on 12L/100km / 20mpg for driver & empty gas minivan. Gas savings are about 40-45% (7.0L/100km / 34mg) in Sienna hybrid driver & empty van 3 seasons. Savings are only about 20% (9.5L/100km / 25mpg) when temperature is -15C / 5F, slush/snow on road and have winter studded tires. Luckly only a few tanks of gas per year with such nasty weather. Driving is 65% highway, 35% city. Overall very happy with Sienna hybrid. Will be looking for Camry hybrid in next couple of yrs.

Bought a 2019 Sienna over a 2021 Sienna for almost the same price. Tested both, drove both multiple times. Wife chose the Sienna because of a couple things...Removable seats which we take out ALL THE TIME, power on the freeway over the 2021 (minor), the roof rack which wasn't available for addon at the time, and there wasn't a good tow bar. Likely we will get get a woodland edition in the future, but for those reasons we preferred the 2019 over this and I think we made the right choice. (My wife also does not like the newer suv center console of the sienna/all the new vans and prefers the older sienna style...which is now gone from ALL vans so it is a moot point in the future. Thanks for the review, will likely go with a sienna again in the future if our Sienna doesn't last another 10 years. Keep the great videos coming. Make a lot of decisions based on your reviews!

Purchased a 22 Sienna XSE end of January. My wife, the primary driver, would tell you without a doubt the best purchase decision she's made. We came from a Kia Sorento with young kids and their car seats. The sienna, with the super long slide seats is amazing for comfort of both the kids and mom and dad. Excellent gas mileage too, one highway trip of 400+ miles (interstate at 70 mph) was 36 mpg on the dot, day to day with mostly city its about 31. For comparison, we are on vacation now with a rental Pacifica in limited trim. The Pacifica is very nice and drives well, mileage is 1/2 that of the sienna. If it didn't sport a Chrysler badge it may have been more of a contender, though after 2 months of living it nothing would talk us out of the Sienna.

I live in suburbs and I used to have a minivan for many years. Once kids have grown and moved out and my old minivan had to be donated I thought it made no longer sense to have minivan. I can't tell you how much I miss the convenience of having minivan. It is being able to buy & bring bulky stuff (if you are homeowner or garage sale monger or gardener you know what I'm talking about). If you are road tripper and bicycle owner, or occasional kayaker (and I am all those things), then nothing matches the convenience and broad utility of a minivan. Somehow it got reputation of being a kiddie hauler, but it is actually so much more.

As guys in Alaska, we really appreciated minivans compared to trucks for: better mileage on expensive gas; the available interior heated cargo space; passenger space (I transported the 4-piece Domino Kings country rock and blues band plus guitars and luggage between Cordova, Alaska's airport and around town, and our HS science teacher loved having me drive students out to Sheridan Glacier and other areas for field trips.) The second row seat tool-less removal is the only negative I see. However, if you want to remove it, you can do it in about 15minutes with 1) unhook 12v, 2) a socket set to remove seats, 3) 2 airbag emulator dongles. Not perfect but still doable. People do convert this into a van life vehicle, by doing so.

You spoke of the back bumper. Oh, my, you were right on the money. Our 2021 got backed in to. Over $4000 worth of damage. They must replace the hatch and all it did was a scuff. THing is, it shattered the bonded plastic on the interior. I agree, a bumper would have been nice.

When he mentionned the consumption of the sienna I was in shock. My wife now wants this instead. We don't care it's not a sexy car, it seems absolutely amazing and practical. How is it possible to have that low consumption with such a massive piece of a car. Awesome. Now I can foresee the nice road trips with friends. 😁

I have a 2001 and a 2008 Sienna. I love them both. Family of 6. We live in Colorado and have road tripped often. Washington state, California, New York, Washington DC, Texas and Florida to name a few and all parts in between (not all in one trip, we are not THAT crazy!!). My favorite is my 2008 as it cruises beautifully through the mountains and on highways fully loaded. I too have a lead foot and this car has the potential to get me into trouble because it is so smooth and handles so nicely. However, I absolutely grimace at the thought where I can't remove that second row of seats. There have been many times when I'm hauling lumber or moving stuff where that extra space is needed. Lately, I've been entertaining the thought of using a Sienna for stealth camping for just my wife and I, and that second row simply has to come out. I am so disappointed that it cannot come out.

The awd system is brilliant. It does exactly what you need. Gives you better traction at low speed. Most all wheel drive systems in cars provide nothing for actual performance driving as they limit you to 50/50 split and act as front wheel drive until the front starts to slip (haldex system, subaru, vw,, ect.). It doesn't help you rotate the car in a corner during aggressive driving. Being a minivan, why would you add complexity and weight for a mechanical awd system? You just need the torque at low speed. Going of a snowy or gravel hill. It also makes adding the option so easy for the manufacturer.

I had the previous 2011 and we loved! More power? Yes and I removed the middle seats 3 times in 5Y. This New one has power in between the previous 6cyl and the 4Cyl. More than enough! In Canada with that Gass at 2$/Lt it is just a blessing! I had before a Venza 2011 in 4cyl and I never felt I missed power bs the previous 2011 6cyl Sienna so how many times per year you need the extra push? I recently moved all our furniture to a new house with just a few trips with the sienna. The only thing that did not fit 100% inside was the queen-sized mattress which had to be secured to the roof rack. I do wish the 2016 was a hybrid as our gas milage is fine, but not great. We did upgrade the tires because the run flat tires are terrible. We do use the awd for adventuring down some gnarly roads so I do wish the ground clearance was better. Journeys off-road makes a lift kit for the sienna, but i have yet to commit.

Nice review! Thank you Toyota for showing some love for the minivan segment. Until recently every van on the market basically had the same 3.5L V6 drivetrain with pretty bad fuel economy especially in city driving. The 4 cylinder together with the hybrid system is plenty smooth and powerful enough, believe me. Yes, there are times when the 4 cylinder might sound like it's working hard but there are times when it's just kind of chugging away and sounds and feels pretty good. Coming from a Honda Odyssey, I'm getting roughly twice the fuel economy and in line with the rated EPA numbers.

I got a 2002 Sienna LE that was given to me from my mom since she got tired of it. She and my dad had it since it was brand new. Now, Im a guy who likes sports cars and trucks. Particularly European sports cars. That didn’t stop me from liking the old Sienna. The first generation is a tank. Slow. Transmission likes to shift gears late so the tiny 3.0 liter V6 can keep up with traffic. It once got rear ended by a Hyundai Genesis sedan, which suffered needing a new bumper and headlamp. The Sienna took it like someone threw a piece of paper at it. The unpainted bumper didn’t even have a mark 🤣. This old model doesn’t have seats that fold into the floor. They become tables in the 3rd row, or you can remove them. The chairs are, however, the most comfortable cloth seats on the planet. They have individual arm rests. My Fiancé likes to ride in the 3rd row and be in her fur blanket. Even the 3rd row is extremely comfortable. I just had the interior cleaned up and the windows tinted very dark. They don’t care about tint where I live.
