Because it has no Toyota character in it, that's why. As a car, it is objectively good. Fantastic, even. As a Toyota, it's empty because it doesn't behave like a Toyota sports car and it doesn't demonstrate any of Toyota's considerable engineering prowess. A de-contented LC500 would make a better Supra, even without the I6.

Gotta say that the quick steering rack makes such a difference in daily driving. On my golf it’s one turn to lock and that in combination with the flat bottom wheel makes it feel so much sportier without being uncomfortable

Seems like that RPM gauge is programmed to “react” faster than the car actually shifts. Probably to give the illusion/impression that the transmission shifts faster than it really does (though it IS a quick shifting trans). Interesting.

Sal Zad for real, the Toyota "nose" sticks out weird, and the back just looks lumpy. The biggest design flaw is you can't even have the windows down past 35mph without the wind buffering hurting your ears. Only time will tell if all the BMW parts are reliable.

This is some car! 🙂 I am in the UK. For personal reasons, I am really not a BMW fan! Firstly, they killed our MG Rover brand and stole Mini. They way some are driven is also not brilliant. This Supra is fabulous though! I can see the BMW switchgear but it just feels high-quality and a lovely sports car interior interior. The sound is great, and even from the video, I can tell it's special and has Supra magic. I would happily buy this if I had the money. I would probably go for the automatic I think although its a tough choice! ❤

People complain about the buffeting with the windows down. Yes its annoying and totally unacceptable for Toyota to not address this.., HOWEVER, there are wind deflectors that mount to the inner mirror triangle piece. This solves the buffeting completely. The supra has a few first model issues like all new sports cars inevitably do. I still love it though. I just wish it had an awd option. The rear end can get overly dramatic sometimes.

Powers underrated for the mk5 for 1,the i6 in the mk5 is more tunable and easier to get power out of than the V6 in the Z,and Nissan would have to play catch up since toyo is more than likely going to bring another major update to the mk5 in power,handling,etc and probably even throw in a manuel or facelift to add onto that once the 2022 model comes around. So Nissan would have to hurry up with the Z since toyos already got everything planned out on what they want to do with the mk5.

The Supra may be objectively a better performance car but it costs way more and its not Japanese. The fact that they didn't even offer a manual shows how little shit they give, they wanted to get a car out that would cost them little hence partnering with BMW. Toyota is one of the largest automakers and they couldn't justify developing a new supra, a halo car on their own. Nissan is broke but they still brought a new Z.

@@Malinkadink but Nissan is using existing parts that they have from the get go while toyo on the other hand wanted to make a new chassis + platform for just this one car alone + using the new i6 in the supra alone and noting else which completely jumps the price completely in the supras end and they strictly wanted it to be a sportscar chassis and not using the gt chassis off the RC and LC like people keep wanting them too. In toyos case it was either co develop with bmw to make the supra for the platform,chassis,and engine or no mk5 and let the fans keep screaming at you to make a new supra that'd be dead out of the reach of being sellable or affordable and wouldn't be able to compete or know if its up to the "purists"standards. So between the 2 Nissan had all they needed for the new Z vs toyo having a large set back of things to even make the mk5 + the risk of it being 3x more the cost of the Z because of them making it themselves.

The steering wheel design would me stop from buying it it’s just doesn’t sit right with me when I see it even though I love every thing else 😂😂

Definitely not as bad in person, but I agree it’s a weird bulbous design! The driving position is perfect though and it feels great in hand

I don’t like the new type r steering wheel. 😝 an Alcantara steering wheel will not last and get ugly quick.
