I have not changed my transmission fluid yet. I just got a scangauge II so I can do it now. I changed my differential and transfer case lubricants out. I used Redline, and it made a big difference. I immediately got better fuel economy. My 2017 Tacoma is at about 70,000 now.

The car care nut channel says you do need to get the transmission up to 100 degrees and then fill it, I trust him. He is a trusted Toyota mechanic.

Great video! Crazy how dark the AT fluid is compared to new. I love when you do the paper towel demo to show the differences. I don’t think any other channel I watch has thought of that. 10/10 as always!!

So glad you made this video. I have to change 21 Taco Off Road. I also have added a dog camper top to my long bed as well. I use mostly for transporting my dogs. I also have added a larger transmission cooler to mine. Takes an extra quart to fill.

Love your videos. I sure miss transmissions dipsticks. They sure make it difficult for DYI people these days. 👍

yeah so much easier just pour in thru dipstick tube. pumping 8 quarts thru that little pump must be really annoying...

What a brilliant system these manufacturers came up with. It’s probably to encourage you to not change the transmission fluid when these vehicles are older so your transmission goes bad and too expensive to repair. Less used vehicle availability equals more sales of new vehicles.
@user-tb7rn1il3q3 ай бұрын
Toyota transmissions still last 300k+ miles with no changes. No one is replacing a Tacoma just because it needs a transmission rebuild, they are expensive.

Nice video brother, thanks! 🤙🏽 How about a review of those tires since you’ve got some miles on them at this point?

FYI: The fuse box jump method does not work on your '21 and higher.

Why
@MrNorthstar5026 күн бұрын
@@garybaldwin1061 I have a 2021 and I do not have to do the OBD port jump, just shift it back and forth between reverse and drive when the transmission is cold and you will see the light go white when its warm.
@MrNorthstar5026 күн бұрын
You don't need the fuse box jump on the "21 Tacoma just shift it between drive and reverse and when it reaches 100 degrees the shift light changes to white, just try it and you will see, be sure it is cool before you start.

I have a 2021 Taco and I do not have to do the OBD port jump, just shift it back and forth between reverse and drive many times when the transmission is cold and you will see the light go white when its warm. In cold weather it would take a while I just let the engine warm up for a few minuets first. Just practice before your ready to change your fluid.

Good job there,, but i think when I do my trans, im gonna raise up the one end of truck to get alot more out from the transmission, and make it only a single refill.

Good video! I've got a 23' TRD Sport LB and loving it. I'll do my drain and fill around the 50,000km mark (Yes, Canadian eh!). From the 2016 service manual I have it says: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL ADJUSTMENT TEMPERATURE (35 TO 45°C) (95 TO 113°F) It looked like you were doing your check at over 130°F. Is this correct? Just curious why so much higher? Did this temp spec change through the the years with the 3rd Gens? Want to make sure when I do mine, I have the correct temp range for my year. Cheers!

When it comes to oil, mileage is the most important, years not so much specially when the conditions are normal driving/environment
