This was such a good review to watch Steve. My first time. Just bought a my23 850 , it looked good on paper, bought it over the phone, Haven't seen one in the flesh. I've owned more bikes than I can remember started in 1972. I'm excited about picking up this demo in a week. Factory QS and HG are being fitted and I've ordered a heap of off road parts for it. Selling a Triumph to buy a Triumph here in Australia. You're right they're a good thing. I'll go back and watch more of your stuff. Thnx alot.

Bought the 2022 850 Sport about a month ago and absolutely love it. . I've done almost all road miles so far...can't really comment too much on off-road capabilities... but plenty of power and very stable in turns and bends....Cruise control would be nice, but very fun, capable bike!

Mentioning me by name in the first minute will get you everywhere, Steve. I liked this bike. I sorta see it as a competitor for a T7 for someone who wants more of a street bike and less of an off-roader, but still doesn’t want to miss out and likes the nicer. I hope ya had fun 😉

I know what you mean about " teary eyed " You really capture what its like to be a Tiger lover, something about these bikes. I have beat the piss out of my Tiger 800, single track, rock crawling, even enduro racing like you, not to mention several long distance trips. Never once has my Tiger failed me after 20K miles. Just like you I am so attached to my 800 because of what memories this bike has given me. Its like a moving story book. I will have a hard time parting with that bike. Also I know the KTM 790 and T7 are better off roaders but I am one gust of wind away from buying a 900 rally because I love the brand. Great video and good luck Tiger brother

@@ashish_amonkar this is a absolute city weapon but might be a little much to swing your leg over every day in city heat or traffic depending on the city, Philly will be fine, nyc.... might be a little extra. But then it has the ability to cross country tour no problem where something like a yamaha t7 or fz07 might be a little less up to the task of 500 mile days

Hey Steve always trust your reviews 100% Just recently brought the new 900 Rally (due to no Rally pros in the country) I actually watched your rally 900 pro review in the shop on the sales guys laptop before I made the purchase. Yet to take it off road (apart from a blast on a few gravel roads near my home) but loving the bike so far comfortable even two up and a lot lighter and manoeuvrable than my old 1200 Tiger. Keep up the good work.

Hey Steve, Thanks for a great review of the Tiger 850. You help to give a better understanding on who this bike is for. When the 850 came out, I couldn't see why someone would choose this over a 900GT PRO. Your riding videos at the end were awesome especially those two little kids on mini bikes. That's how I started a long time ago... Great Memories.

Francis here is my thought on the why 850 vs 900 rally. #1 weight, #2 my age, #3 price. I just got one and it is fantastic. No single tracks, but I did ride this past weekend on dirt and mud. Even a bunch of washout. It handled great for me. Yes, I would like the other features, but to me, not worth it for my budget...bought a throttle lock for interstate, not cruise, but hey, not as much cash out of pocket either...

Wow, Steve, impressive! I am trying to decide on my next bike, mainly for Touring around Europe, without getting worried about the occasional dirt track or bumpy forest road - just llike you described it at 14:11. So far, all the tests I saw on this one made me think it is good only for the road. Then I saw you doing the off-road bit here....! That really showed me what I needed to know! I can now tell that this bike can do more than I ever will do with it. So, thank you for this demonstration, Steve. Really appreciate it. Thanks from Germany. And Triumph owes you one. A thumb up & subscribed! (And your reference to "heavier Americans" really made me laugh. Never heard any tester consider this!)

In my mind's eye Steve Kamrad would eat my dust and I absolutely need a rally pro... When I return to reality I ride mostly road, half the time 2 up. I reckon this is all the bike I need and the £4000 saved between the 2 bikes buys luggage, auxilliary lighting, riding courses, lots of fuel and some trips away. It's sadly time for me to move my Speed Triple on ( I've had her for 8 yearsand had lots of fun and adventures with her). Planning to order my 850 Sport in the new year. In case the comment is still relevant…. • A quick shifter is indeed an option for this bike • The saddle has adjustability to two positions, and a lower seat option is also available, also with its own two position adjustability. So between the two seats there are four positions ranging from 32+” down to 29+”. I do have a couple of questions: 1) Can you verify that applying either the brake lever or pedal converts the rear signal lights to auxiliary brake lights momentarily? 2) I have heard a horror review of someone who installed Hepco & Becker upper crash bars (the older and lighter model) only to have the key bolts shear off in the engine based mounting points. He seemed a credible reporter and insisted that there was only the lightest off-road duty employed and no drops. So now I have become aware of conflicting opinions as to whether upper crash bars are necessary at all for any riding save perhaps for truly hard core work…..weighing the potential cost of damaged tanks and plastics against the possibility of cracked engine blocks, etc.? I would be grateful for your take on such. Cheers from BC, Canada!
@steve_kamrad5216
@steve_kamrad5216 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the rear lights but I say no, hepco stuff is from China. Check the skid plate vs a ebay China one. Upper Bars are necessary to preserve upper plastics but I think no matter what the rad guards will take a hit

I wholeheartedly agree about the Tacho display on the Tiger. It is NOT good. It takes up way too much UI space on the large screen and yet still doesn't display a good representation of the information it needs to. Look to the Indian TFT, or the BMW GS for examples of how to display a tacho properly. I LOVE thisd bike and ideally I'd love to own a Tiger Rallye Pro but the one thing that would always be a disappointment would be that display. It's a missed opportunity. (Software update PLEASE Triumph!) Great bike.

I especially like the off road stuff you did in the first four minutes, as well as the post 10 min mark. Another difference is the 850 has a much longer oil service interval than the 900, 10K miles Vs 6K miles. Only really relevant if you are doing big annual mileage really. (I mistakenly mentioned on your 900 vid that I thought the service interval was 10K miles on the 900, I'm wrong). The colour schemes on the 850 are far nicer than the plain 900GT &GT Pro models.

Great video! Just what I wanted to see. Do you think it's worth going for the Rally for 80% tarmac use? (Only light off-road use at weekends). I like the soft, comfortable suspension and the ergonomics of an off-road bike, but other than that, the 850 seems to do everything I ask of it. I have a DR650 for serious off-roading and that's why three years ago I bought the F700GS instead of the 800GS. I am very disappointed with the 700GS, I don't like the suspension (it feels like a toy), the wind protection and the power delivery. I'm looking forward to change it but I don't want to make the same mistake with the Triumph, that's why I hesitate between this 850 (the gt doesn't offer anything I need) and the rally (not the pro). Thanks in advance.

Then it's just the rally pro though with short stroke suspension. But also you could buy a 850 and then a set of wheels. I went through all this with my 800 roadie though and your best bet is buy the 900RP.

@@steve_kamrad5216 Basically a very entry level Rally version was what I was getting at. I'd be after the long travel suspension but not all the tech stuff. I currently have a 2017 Africa Twin.... I like the simplicity of dedicated physical buttons for deactivating TC and ABS. I think with the Rally Pro you have to stop the bike and turn off the engine to change modes... maybe a minor issue but could get annoying. Love the first few seconds of this vid where you get it super sideways.... watched that a few times 🤘😎

Hey SK, not sure if you'll see this due to it being a month after the vid went live but wanted to thank you for the review and ask whether or not you think this would be a good choice for someone living in the Rocky Mountains? I'm debating between this or the T7. I'm definitely an 80/20 road biased guy but I did grow up on dirt bikes and considering the off-road terrain around here is the way it is, I'm just questioning if the smaller front and cast rims are going to hold up. Of course 3rd option might be to just hold off and wait till I can afford the Rally or Rally Pro. Cheers!

Hey man. I always see these. Get a t7 if you want to go offroad a bunch and save some money. If you're gonna be pushing the limits later on off road get a RP due to the fact you can't upgrade the 850 the way you want to. If you're ripping street and just cruising gravel. Get the 850! For the motor

By the way the engines are identical to the "900s" the lost 10bhp is simply ECU programming - partial closure of the throttle valves at higher RPM. All you have to do is edit the ETV map values to 100% where they're restricted and bingo you have the same power as the 900s.
@steve_kamrad5216
@steve_kamrad5216 3 жыл бұрын
Well the 900s are reportedly down on HP too. I have the technical data but the gearing is shorter and the throttle does not have the bark the 900s do. So it may be more than a map. Like cams.

Consider that I’ve owned (and loved) two G310GS as second bikes I’m well aware that lower power bikes are absolutely fine, the 33bhp of the 310 was ample for local use and motorway in the UK. I’d argue 85hp isn’t enough if you’re carrying a pillion though, which I sometimes do, and although I’m hardly a speed freak, it’s nice to own a motorcycle that’s got lots of power and torque.
@oknevals
@oknevals 3 жыл бұрын
@@timothydubber549 I haven't been in UK so, I'm not sure what the road conditions are. I was born in SE part of Europe and I know for sure that 85hp would be crazy amount of power for any motobike over there. Even for car. I have friend asking me about 1200gs, and I tell him he doesn't need it. Too much weight, too much power, too much everything. I know my Super Tenere would be more of frustration over there than pleasure. I rode 500x from Oregon to Texas with 300lbs load. 2000 miles in 6 days. The biggest issue I had was relentless wind all the way (tall screen was horrible idea) that limited my cruising speed to 75mph. Extra weight was making my front wheel pop up little when I was tired. Now, Super Tenere would have been better and safer ride but, I couldn't haul it on the hitch carrier of my truck. Pros and cons :-)
