Good job to Matthew speaking the on road performance of Passat R Line rather than on paper in 8:26. Among all car reviewers in Malaysia only you pointed out this fact. In fact there is difference of Asian car vs European car in term of horsepower measurement. Asian car like Japanese, Korea, China etc measure the horsepower from crank (engine output only and exclude of curb weight) while European car is measure thru on wheel diagnose. On wheel diagnose counter off the curb weight of the car. For example Civic 1.5T on paper is 173ps on paper but on wheel diagnose it only get 155ps. CRV 1.5T 193ps but after on wheel diagnose it only get 142ps. Despite of CRV (2WD) having higher hp than Civic but it was 230kg heavier which slash off the on wheel output. For European car like Passat 1.8tsi B8 180ps on paper after on wheel diagnose it get 189ps. These info get from DME tuning. Therefore this Passat R Line 190ps is accurate output on paper and on wheel at least. If based on European car measurement Accord 1.5T on wheel should be around 160ps at best. That will be 30ps lower than Passat 190ps. Now it can be answeed why Passat is almost 1 and half sec quicker than Accord in 0-100km/h. Accord is a little bit heavier than Passat by around 40kg only.

Ride comfort in Comfort mode in R Line supposed to be smoother and comfy. I think the culprit is low profile 19" tyres. An 18" higher profile comfort tyres would definitely make a big difference. He said the R Line can't absorb potholes and big bumps..Large tyre low profile should be the issue

Enough about AEB! It is really not necessary if the car's body rigidity, built quality, chassis durability, airbag deployment and crash safety development is good. Cars like the Perodua and all the Japanese cars with AEB need the tech, because they are not build to the same high standard. Paultan needs to stop promoting AEB as a necessity. Instead you guys should do more research on how a car is developed. You are still more likely to die in A Perodua or any Japanese cars with AEB, in a crash compared with a VW or Volvo. That, son is a fact!

Totally agree. VW's are far safer than all those cars with AEB and other gimmick technologies. For instance in Malaysia alone, less people die in VW's compared to cars with AEB such as Malaysian, Japanese and Korean cars. VW cars are built like a tank. You can be rest assured you are safe, as long as you drive safely!

I owned a Passat HL but I think AEB should be included since this R line hit 200k mark. In fact can install original AEB module outside which comes with ACC function for RM3k only (plug and play). But 1 thing not many people highlight about AEB. AEB is an extra safety kit we should not over rely on it as it may not function properly sometimes. Not only for VW but other brands as well. As a driver eyes should not leave away and should act accordingly. And in Malaysia road condition if you leave a 2 cars space in highway (safety distance) there are chances others cut in. In this case AEB may sudden jam brake as it sense an object suddenly appear. If without AEB we just leave the gas pedal or slight brake to keep back safe distance. AEB is good but sometimes can be annoying too. I install the AEB module because my intention is the ACC function.

Great car! But the prices are close to the Arteon. Although the Arteon is missing a few extra kit such as automated rear blinds, blindspot monitoring, etc., the Arteon is definitely the better looking car and it handles better (test driven both, my personal opinion).

For me i will definitely go for arteon over this passat r-line. The reason is it look better, frameless door & actually not a big different in spec & price between those car. Like you say, passat does have blind spot & rear blind but for me those thing is not really a big deal. If passat have autonomous system then it worth to go for the passat. Plus arteon have 360 camera & better speaker too. I will either go for passat elegance to save money or just go for arteon for the look because in terms of the spec there is not much of the different & both car drive well.

Dear volkswagen Co. I'm a volkswagen fan. I like passat got sunroof. Why this passat R Line doesn't have a sunroof? Other than that why passat R Line doesn't have such like...No Lane Keeping Assist, No Autonomous braking system, No Auto parking...just a basic driving car only?? Personally I will say Passat unless you concern about resale and reliability all. Warranty for BMW is about 5 years but any car no matter whatever makes will have some sort of hiccup. Parts can be sort out I believe even after warranty ends. Volkswagen, ford, Alfa Romeo have always had bad reputation in Malaysia in recent years and due to that these vehicles price In secondhand market plunge tremendously. Anyway thanks to that so that I can afford these vehicles on my driveway lol....just get it mate if you like that car, and keep a MYVI as a spare car too...
