I hadn't even heard of Emotiva until I saw your piece on the B1+'s (which I now have...along with the SE8 subwoofer). So my new system surprisingly probably sounds better than any system I've had in 60 years (starting in 1958...when it all started in stereo). It's certainly not the most expensive I've ever had...but the sound is VERY fine (classical & jazz, only...not theater). So thanks for that help.

Great year Steve! I wanted to mention the “Power of great music”. You mentioned the Allman Brother’s Fillmore East album… This is not my go-to style of music. But I went to Qobuz and played the album… And… I loved it, it is amazing to me how music that is timeless and great just captures my attention. And I watched Jana’s interview again and I am listening to the Campbell/Webb album, and again, not my go-to style, but man, amazing art can grab you if you let it! Incredible.

The drum beat from the Allman Brothers' dual drummers (Jaimoe and Trucks) is intoxicating! Side note, I moved to Ga in the '70's and worked with a guy (in audio) that claimed he went to high school with the Allmans and was their first drummer. But his mother told him he had to quit and get a real job. (the one I met him at).

For me 2021 turned out to be an incredible year for my experimental sound system. It didn't start out that way. In may a bad hum arose in one integrated amplifier. It was a bad electrolytic capacitor in the preamplifier power supply. I had to take the system apart because of the way everything is stacked tightly in a cabinet. Fortunately I had a spare unit that failed for another reason and I cannibalized the part from it, swapped it out, and voila, it worked. But it really was a PITA to do it. 12 wires connected to 4 terminals in a tight space. even getting the old one out was a pain. It had been in there since I bought it in the mid 1970s. I long suspected that the 8 front surround speakers were too bright for the rest of the system. Easy enough to fix. There are so many controls that when you think you have it right you really don't want to touch it. But I did and what a difference it made. I cleaned up some noisy switches, took the whole damned thing apart, fond an intermittently bad cable, replaced it, bypassed a lot of tape monitor switches for processors eliminating some of the rats nest of cables and made other tweaks to adjustments. The end result surprised even me. I didn't think I could do better than what I already had but the improvement was significant. Another improvement came from a surprising direction. My listening room has 28 panes of glass, two in french doors and 26 in windows not counting the ones in wall hanging prints. These have plastic inserts to make them look like multi paned glass. When Teledyne AR9 goes deep some of them rattle. I tracked those that did down and rolled up some scotch tape to jam between them and the glass. Voila, cleaner bass. See, room treatments can work. Now for the down side. This experimental system has to be adjusted with about a dozen variable parameters for each recording. Now all of them have to change. I've got a few dozen done, a handful that should be relatively easy, hundreds that won't, and well over 2000 that have never been adjusted for before. It's a skill I acquired just using it. This is one of the real drawbacks of this system. Even 1/2 db over 2 octaves change matters. But it's worth it. I could not be happier. And what was the total cost? I accidentally shorted out a speaker output and had to replace the amplifier output fuse. I actually had to order a 5 pack. I think about $7.
@markfischer36263 жыл бұрын
@@keplermission4947 It's the same capacitor from an Identical unit. It works perfectly. About 10 or 15 years ago I had a bad 1000 mfd 100 volt power supply filter capacitor go bad in my HK Citation preamp. B+ rail voltage was 72 volts. I had two 4800 mfd 75 volt Mallory electrolytic capacitors lying around so I wired them in series and the thing works better than new and they fit in the chassis. BTW I'm an electrical engineer so you can't tell me nothin'.
