Testing our 2021 MT09 SP with the new Dominator HP5 EX exhaust (no db killer fitted) Euro 0 Compliant!
Reasons for choosing this particular exhaust:
Two silencers which allows for better noise abatement without the need to run a db killer, and subsequently restrict exhaust flow.
I also prefer the angle / height of the silencer when compared to other options available.
Good value!
I do plan on getting the bike mapped at some point (I am sure that there are significant gains to be had!) however, I can confirm that the bike runs/fuels very well on the stock mapping! There is a distinct lack of deceleration "pops" which gives me confidence that the bike is not running too lean (although I could be wrong). Many of these modern bikes correct the fueling via the o2 sensor, to a certain extent, which I assume is why this, and other exhausts, are marketed as: "Remapping not required" although understandably, there is no substitute for a proper map tuned to the individual bike!
After the initial install, I did run the bike up to temperature at idle, until the fans came on, at which point I hit the kill switch with the ignition left on for 5 minutes (ECU learning mode apparently... / previous advice from Ducati technicians). I'm not sure if the Yamaha ECU has the same feature but either way, she now runs great!

👍Nice, I was concerned that the Akra might be a bit too loud, but maybe not. I also wasn't sure about the angle/height of the end can on the Akra (from an aesthetics point of view). Although you can't argue with the fact that the Akra exhaust will be very well made!

Hi! Great video, please, can you explain me the "ECU learning mode"? How many times did you do that? Thanks a lot
@tankslapmoto9999
@tankslapmoto9999 Жыл бұрын
The procedure goes as follows: 1) From a completely Cold engine - disconnect the battery (you will need to reset the clock later on) 2) join the 2 unconnected battery terminals together to remove any remaining power in the ecu (or leave disconnected for 10mins) 3) reconnect the battery 4) start the bike and let the bike idle (do not rev the bike) until the fan activates and then comes off. 5) turn the bike off from the starter button/switch leaving the key in the "on" position once you hear the fan turn off (think it's 97 degrees). 6) wait 30 seconds and turn ignition off from the key = ECU learning complete. You only need to perform this procedure once, unless you make any changes to the exhaust or reinstall the O2 sensor, in which case you'd need to do it again. Apparently, so I have been told by a Ducati technician, it uses the o2 sensor to "learn" from the initial start-up. I cannot confirm that Yamaha has the same programme, but I suspect that it does, I have always had good results by adopting this procedure when fitting a new exhaust (if no remap).

I find it runs very similar to stock in terms of throttle response, in terms of hp gains, I doubt there's much if any up top without a remap but I could feel a definite improvement in the midrange power.

Hi, I think I used the blipper on all but maybe 2/3 downshifts in this video. It works great and I use it all the time although if I am just cruising/at low rpm when I downshift, I tend to use the clutch (just for mechanical sympathy and smoothness). It's a great bike, if you like your 07 you will love the 09. I did a review with a bit more detail if interested, Cheers👍

@tankslapmoto9999
@tankslapmoto9999 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, No map yet - it runs fine without it (I think these modern bikes adjust the fueling via the o2 sensor - to a certain degree) but im sure it would be even better with a remap. Overall quality/fit and finish is very good, it all went together nice and easy, the only complaint would be that the logo is a sticker (seems well stuck/good quality) rather than an embossed or rivited logo.

Yamaha (and just about every other brand in existence) is restricted by regulations. This means no matter what exhaust you use, the throttle-control map (the map that interprets the signal from the handlebar grip and translates that to movement at the throttle plate) will always and without exception limit the amount of actual throttle the ECU will give the throttlebodies. You can crank the grip to 100% and the ECU will limit that to whatever is programmed into the throttle map. What this means, depending on RPM, the ECU is the nanny that takes your grip 100% and gives the engine 82% or 79% or whatever the map says. Has NOTHING to do with air/fuel ratio and o2 sensors.

awesome vid m8, have the same mt 09 sp 2021, love it, trouble deciding between akrapovic or dominator upgrade, do u know if there is much difference between the two? Did u have to remove catalytic converter? Like the wheelies, did u take off wheel control on ecu? cheers
@tankslapmoto9999
@tankslapmoto9999 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks😊 For me the Akra is probably slightly better build quality, being carbon fiber and made by Akra, but it is more expensive, too loud (dominator has 2 silencers) and I don't like the angle of the silencer on the Akra either but it is all personal preference. Yes wheelie control turned off!

@tankslapmoto9999
@tankslapmoto9999 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, on the ecu flash, there's definitely performance gains to be had by doing a flash but, it is certainly not necessary with the HP5 (twin silencer version). The back pressure is not dramatically different from the stock pipe and it runs perfect without a remap (no popping on deceleration, which can be a sign of lean running). The ecu corrects the fueling via the o2 sensor, so as long as the back pressure is not dramatically different, it can easily compensate. I will check out the LMRC, cheers👍

If I bought it again I'd save some time (they are ceramic coated to order) and money and go with the satin finish. It marks easy and the satin finish is probably a more high quality finish overall.

Hello, did you notice the timing chain tensioner noise like many other 2021 Mt09 users? Mainly on a cold engine?
@tankslapmoto9999
@tankslapmoto9999 2 жыл бұрын
Hi yes, unfortunately, I go in to it in a bit more detail in our review video kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5KymKGwbNyJqck at 14:36. It is a strange one, it doesn't do it all the time and usually only lasts for a few seconds. The general consensus is that it is linked to the tensioner being driven by oil pressure (although most tensioners, even those that are oil driven, work on a ratchet system so once the slack is taken up in the chain, the rattle shouldn't come back the next day...) Perhaps the design of this tensioner is unusual. I don't think it is anything to worry about, the dealers seem relaxed about it, but it is a little annoying as without this issue it sounds like a sewing machine.

@tankslapmoto9999
@tankslapmoto9999 2 жыл бұрын
Hi yes, she was moving around quite a bit that day, it was fairly cold (about 6°C) and easy to provoke some slides. The opening sequence was a bigger one, at about 3 seconds in (it is hard to tell from the visual but you can hear the tone of the exhaust change as the TC was doing its thing, it is very subtle). I wouldn't call it a save as such, more just a case of bumping into the electronics on their lowest settings. There's a tremendous amount of mechanical grip, so you do have to provoke it, but it would still spit you off if you weren't careful👍
