Just got back from World Famous MOAB DOMINATED THE TRAILS PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!! . Went as soft as possible on all Shock Adjustments. The Secret is throttle Control, in order not to ROMP the RIG, Picking the best line, Trust the Yamaha Engineers work. Went about as close to Vertical UP And Down over 30 feet as can Imagine. No Tire Slip at all. Stock Tires reduced pressure by 4 LBs per tire. Went up all obstacles like VELCROW Both Wet and Dry Rock What a Machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2020 X2 XTR and removing the sway bar in the front makes a night and day difference in the ride quality!!! You should try it. I also removed the rear sway bar and that’s a hole difference as well.

Usually you don't have to adjust the physical springs.I just adjusted top and bottom screws all the way down back up 2 and it rides perfect

No need to measure,just want both adjusted the same, I left 2 threads from top and went 4 turns from softest on all screw adjustments, have 22 x2 rspec rides great

i have my 19' adjusted to the softest for the coil. stiff suspension.

interesting. you are describing all these settings as soft, standard or hard. i thought each one did a different thing? Preload( the spring) hi speed compression and low speed compression ( the 2 top settings, and rebound ( the lower setting. ) each one has a different function. preload, (the spring) sets your ride height and sag. hi and low speed compression (the top set nut and screw) are settings for how quickly and how much you shock compress when hitting a bump at hi or low speed, and the rebound ( the lower screw setting) adjusts how quickly the shock returns to the original state after being compressed by a bump which would address things like calming down a bucking bronco feeling. each function has a different task, so i thought? am i wrong with this ?

I am guessing you are probably correct in what you are saying. When I initially got the 850 and wanted to soften the ride. I spoke to a Yamaha Mechanic that told me the instructions were in the service manual. So I just followed what they said in the video. As others have mentioned, removing the rear sway bar makes a huge difference in softening up the ride also.

I noticed you did the spring measurement with the tire off and fully extended. I'm assuming that's what Yamaha said in the documentation?

Could you attach a Vplow and adjust the suspension to 'stiff' or would you need heavier duty springs in front?

I have my 2020 x2 xt-r shocks set all the way soft on all 3 settings plus I took some preload off the springs, and it still rides like a wagon. Tires at 11 psi too. My gen 1 base model wolverine rode better with the cheapo shocks that have only the preload nut for adjustment. I’m going to try disconnecting the swaybar next. I refuse to spend $1500 on new shocks just to get a comfortable ride. Very disappointed in these kyb reservoir shocks.

Do you know if the instructions and shocks are the same for the 21 XTR X4? And I’m assuming the motor oil is the same as what’s in the 2020 model but I can’t find an oil change kit specifically for the 2021 just 2020 and older! Your help would be appreciated! Thank you!

My Dealer told me they don't have a part number yet for the 2021XTR Oil change kit yet. I am just about to do my first oil change and will post the part numbers for the oil and filter. Look in your owners manual for the shock settings. That is where I found mine. With 4 seats versus 2 the settings may be different.

It worked very well.. I have been so busy never have the time to update.. It made a much more comfortable ride. When I finally have some free time I am going to remove the sway bar and see if it gets even better or worse..
